Cyprus Autumn Brings Cooler Weather and Ever Improved Property Opportunities September whizzed by in a flash and brought with it the surprise of early rain which cleaned the air and settled the temperatures. One of the things that make Cyprus such a charming place to live in is that, unlike countries nearer the equator, there are significant seasons here – fantastic spring flowers from February to April, sunseaandsand summers and of course, just enough cold weather to give Christmas the essential open fires and mulled wine atmosphere. October is always a good month for property investment, especially in Paphos. Fitzgerald’s have several new listings of properties just arrived on the market and new buyers are choosing this time of cooler weather to visit and make their choices. Sadly Cyprus at present time is in the headlines for all the wrong reasons and printing bad news seems to get the attention the media craves, never mind the reality: but then, when was the media hype a true indication of what is real and balanced in a small country like Cyprus? Fortunately, each country is unique and this is what makes it so appealing to visit, play or live there. Tourism related companies and their marketing strategists know this exceedingly well, no doubt to the delight of their clients and countries they visit. There are very many reasons why Cyprus is a desirable place to be. We are going through a tough patch, but from what we hear there are lots of things that are changing for the better. The banking crisis did not seriously affect prices but it did clear the air so that Cyprus property prices can now improve dramatically over the next one to two years. There are such great opportunities now to buy quality property, be it large, medium or small, and these are unlikely to be repeated. There is a school of thought that suggests it might be safer for potential buyers to rent for a few years and then make up their minds when they have gained some familiarity and seen how the market lies. This strategy is sound and mostly applicable to properties without the Title Deeds. Having Title Deed makes all the difference. Over the last several years prices have already fallen substantially and to hesitate when prices are bottoming out is not a perfect strategy to get the most house for your money. If you are really serious and want to take advantage of present low prices, focus on what you want. A year is a long time in the property market. Our current sales reflect the growing number of enthusiastic investors who are 'seizing the day' because they have liquidity at this time and want to invest. From a

buyer’s point of view: if you see a house you love and can happily live in, then don't hesitate because it’s likely someone else will get in first at today’s prices and snatch your dream away. Don’t rent and waste money. Buy your dream when you see it. Especially when the property comes from a licensed company which specialises in resale property at realistic prices with title deeds.

Aegean offers direct flights from Athens to Paphos Aegean airlines has announced PaphosAthens flights for the first time, starting next year. Head of the Paphos regional board of tourism, Nassos Hadjigeorgiou, welcomed the announcement, saying it could only mean good news for Paphos. “This move is the outcome of many efforts, including Aegean’s, which recognised a business opportunity using Paphos airport,” he said.According to Hadjigeorgiou, the flights will commence in April 2014. “Initially the airline will operate two flights a week – this number will increase during the summer season.” The tourism chief said that the operation would help to contribute towards new job opportunities and help to extend the tourist season. “Aegean’s presence will also help the image of Paphos as well as that of the airport,” he said. The airline is the largest Greek airline and has been a Star Alliance member since June 2010. Aegean’s main base is Athens , with secondary hubs at Thessaloniki, Heraklion and Larnaca. In addition, Hadjigeorgiou said that the new flights to and from Paphos would provide an opportunity for third countries to use Athens airport as a connection to Cyprus. “This will be of particular benefit to travelers from tourist markets such as Germany and central Europe,” he said. The local tourist head said that the announcement comes at a critical time for the town. “We welcome Aegean to Paphos and collective efforts will ensure they experience a successful presence here. We also continue to strive to achieve our goals for penetration into new destinations, increase numbers of arrivals and further upgrade of Paphos airport and the aim of significant yearround activity,” he said.

New recording from Paphos musician gets worldwide airtime Paphos is an amazing place for music; just check out our entertainment pages for proof! But although, by world terms, Paphos is a tiny place, hardly worthy of the term city, people from the Paphos area come up with amazing talents. In the last week of September, John Artes, local musician and singer, went public with an amusing and perhaps slightly shocking ‘fun punk’ CD called ‘How Many Times by Cockney John’. Recorded on the island with Vic Malcolm of the 70’s UK band Geordie and marketed by Tabitha Records (www.tabitharecords.web.com), the album and single tracks, plus the new release ‘Am On Me Holidays’, have been played on radio stations as far afield as Australia, America, Scandinavia, Germany and the U.K. Locally, the island’s Rock FM radio show ‘Double Dutch’ also gave twohours airtime to Artes and interviewed him at length. ‘Great music’ remarked DJ Joep. Tabitha Records website confirms: ‘During the mid1970s you could find yourself packed … in sweaty London clubs watching and listening to punk and new wave music. In 2013, we have Cockney John … an enigma, a throwback from the life and music of that period but 100% fun. ‘This album is a musical cocktail of anything that was 70’s punk and new wave with a twist of today. That genre of music mixed with the original tunes from songsmith Vic Malcolm means that once you hear them you will not get them out of your head.’ Artes has been on the music circuit a long time, playing internationally on the proscene since he was 17, supporting many named bands of the time around the world. Better known in Cyprus for his association with Andrew Oliver and

islandwide tours of hit shows like Great Balls of Fire and the smash new Cyprus band of 2013, The Firebirds, Artes is delighted at the success of the punk CD and his new single: ‘I’m filming now with Jack (Vic Malcolm) for the next Cockney John video for the song "Hole in me head" which promises to be crazier than ever.’ Heading into October, Artes will join Jo Allsop & The Bald Eagles in rehearsal for their new tour starting in November (see events for dates). The premiere will be on Saturday 2 November at 8.30pm at The Old Kamaroudi Tavern, Konia. Tickets are an affordable €10 and meals are available in restaurant Tel: 26942044, 99309448. John Artes’ CD, ‘How Many Times by Cockney John’ is available from Tabitha Records or as a download from Amazon and iTunes. His new single ‘Am On Me Holidays’ is out on DVD now. "Night at the musicals"

Out & About A Flavour of Paphos in Pictures

On Wednesday 25th September, the Fifth Floor Restaurant hosted a “Night at the Musicals”. The accomplished duo, “Crystal Clear” gave their time Free of Charge, and song tracks from a number of west end musicals. The evening was heavily subsidised by the restaurant and its suppliers, so tickets were for just €10, of which €5 will go to Archangel Michael Hospice.

What's On with Jezabel Activity has begun its annual transition from daytime to evening as the sun becomes less of a focus and folk start dressing a little more warmly and up, to go out of an evening. Some hotels and tourist bars will close, but many stalwarts stay open throughout winter for the benefit of locals, expats and the ‘three monthers’ holidaying OAPs who choose to spend their pension on a Cyprus holiday rather than on heating their British home.
