Leading Re-Sale Property Specialists
There are not so many really lovely properties on the market at prices aimed to sell. This of course is crucial and Daryl Fitzgerald knows the market prices because Fitzgerald Estates only sells quality resale property. Presentation is worth 10's of thousands to the seller AND the buyer. So, for those sellers who want a realistic price for their 'show house' which buyers are prepared to pay, then Fitzgerald's has the know-how for you.
How do you make your house a 'show house' or close to it? The obvious is to de-clutter (throw away any old pieces
you can do without) and do lots of painting - inside and out. The garden is very important. It is definitely worth trimming and beautifying! Should you want to have a chat about your property or want to buy your 'show house', you are welcome to visit Fitzgerald's between 9am and 5.30pm (no break for lunch!), 6 days a week, Monday to Saturday, situated on Apostolos Pavlos Avenue, the road going to Paphos Harbour from the Begonia traffic lights. Hot Tips!
We are now in some of the hottest months of the year, but of course that welcome dip in the clear coastal waters of Paphos are welcome to cool and refresh you. Recently going on a visit to Petro Tou Romeo (Aphrodities Rock) it was interesting to see how cool the waters were at the birthplace of Aphrodite. This beautiful area lies to the East of Paphos, and attracts tourists throughout the year, even those wishing to swim round Aphrodite’s Rock seven times to gain eternal youth! Other beaches of interest to the East of Paphos City are Yeriskipou Plage which has a grassed area and is within walking distance of many of the excellent hotels of Paphos. Also try the secluded
Mandria Beach which is close to the airport and a quiet area.
Going to the West of Paphos is the famous Coral Bay Beach, with its famous Sandy Beaches, and water sports facilities. Peyia Sea Caves and for those who are more adventurous Lara Bay in the Akamas peninsular a protected nature reserveof outstanding beauty, although
probably a 4 x 4 vehicle is recommended for this beach. This area is also famous for the Marine Turtle Hatchery.
Good news for those worried about the recent drought – it was reported that June had a much higher rainfall than normal and in some areas was as much as 400% more than the usual averages. It was also recorded that the October 2009 to June 2010 rainfall had reached a 109%! So again good news for those worried about a lack of water.
Still on the weather the highest recorded temperatures for June were 39.2 C on the 18th June and the lowest 11 C. Bristol Rover
Easyjet has additional flights to Paphos with a new route from Bristol Airport – this makes for four airports where Easyjet fly to Paphos from UK – The latest estimates show that during 2010 some 475,000 plus passengers will travel with Easyjet alone to Cyprus! This of course is only one of the many airlines coming to Paphos from the European Union and Russia. In spite of the global downturn budget airlines such as Easyjet are enhancing their numbers of flights to Paphos while national carriers like BA are scaling back their services. Out and About During the month of August the highlight of the month is the feast of the Dormition or Assumption of Our Lady on August 15th this is celebrated throughout the Greek Orthodox world and is considered the third most significant festival in their religious calendar.
It is also the name day for those with the names of Maria, Maroula, Despina and Marios. Special dishes and sweets are made during this festival some of which are Koupes and Loukamades, the former being a couscous filled with mushroom or meat mixture, made into a cigar shape, and the latter a sweet dough fried and rolled in honey. Each village will have its own celebrations and of course many businesses close for a one or two week holiday during this time. Cyprus Weddings
August is also a traditional wedding month, and there are many Cypriot wedding traditions, from blessing the newly married couples mattress by the priest, to sewing red crosses into the mattress and traditional dances performed by the village woman around the linen for the newly weds. There was also traditional shaving of the bridegroom, the last time as a single man! Today Paphos is a world wide setting for many wedding couples from around the globe, what better place to chose than the Island of love itself. (Photo Courtesy of paphosprestigeweddings.com)

Featured Property A prestigious neighbourhood and exceptional quality home.
Set among quality homes the villa enjoys a stunning panoramic outlook to the hills, which skirt the back of the village, and the meandering coastline of Coral Bay. Taking advantage of the naturally sloping plot, the villa is positioned a few steps below street level with the flat plot extending close to the edge of the escarpment. The villa’s exterior is up beat and fresh, with a soft yellow raffia finish accentuated by sandstone detailing on the edges the villa. The windows feature attractive white borders which compliment the white carved balustrades of the balconies. The entry is slightly recessed and opens to an expansive open plan living area encircled by windows on all sides, offering eye catching panoramic views.
Neutral colourings, and polished pale grey floors complement the open space and glorious all-day sunshine floods the area with light. The central column supports, as it were, the vast living room and the intricate mosaic floor insets transcend classic Mediterranean and contemporary chic, with ease. The open plan design creates easy flow, with uninterrupted vision between the kitchen, dining and sitting areas through to the outdoor living spaces and the inviting pool. Central to family activity is the impressive kitchen, designed to be both elegant and easy clean. The gourmet kitchen features slim-line cabinetry, a full range of under-the-counter white goods and solid granite worktops. Custom designed, even the most fastidious of chefs would be delighted here...Perfection every time! Two sets of patio doors open to a massive terrace and the pool. It’s your summertime entertainment haven... For a change, venture to the front, to the expansive private courtyard. This secluded courtyard is ‘sunken’ below the street level (on the same level as the villa) and is surrounded by vibrant shrubs and evergreens along the sides. A wonderful retreat. Wide sweeping stairs lead to the first floor with both the master and second bedroom having the benefit of a spacious continuous balcony with commanding panoramic scenery to both countryside and pool. Sloped ceilings add the feeling of space to already very generous sized bedrooms and gentle warm colours contribute to the relaxing ambience. The master bedroom has a shower en-suite. The third bedroom is equally generous in size and opens to a private balcony facing the street. Exceptionally spacious family bathroom completes the first floor. This superb villa is simply finished to perfection. This is a rare find and its many attributes will make this property the fabulous home you’ve always wanted. Don’t wait. Quote ref: 1177
Cypriot Cuisine Sheftalia (Greek: σεφταλιά or σιεφταλιά) is a traditional Cypriot food. It is a type of crépinette, a sausage without skin, that uses caul fat, or omentum, the membrane that surrounds the stomach of pig or lamb, to wrap the ingredients rather than sausage casing.
Caul fat is transparent and naturally fatty. The filling is made of ground pork or lamb shoulder or leg mixed with finely chopped onion and parsley, salt, and pepper and formed into small round balls. These balls are then placed on the spread caul fat and squares of caul fat are cut around them and wrapped, making little sausages which are put on two skewers. Sheftalia are then grilled, preferably on charcoal until golden brown, about 20 to 30 minutes. In Cyprus it is very common to find kebab or souvlaki restaurants that also sell sheftalia in pita bread. In fact it is so common that nearly every neighbourhood has at least one souvlitzidiko as the kebab restaurant is called in Greek. It's official! Cyprus is the top country to retire to! According to a recent survey by the Sunday Times, Cyprus is first where it comes to retirement countries.
Nine sectors were compared in the survey, from income tax, inheritance tax, property costs, living costs, ease of residency, healthcare, climate and culture. Cyprus scored well on all counts and also for its choice of flights to UK airports. Neapolis University Many people are unaware there is a new University in Paphos – Neapolis University which will be running degree courses in Business and finance related subjects, Health Sciences, Architecture and Construction related studies. Many of the courses are taught in English. The new campus of the University, only the second in its kind in Cyprus, will be open in 2010.
