Studying design allows me to learn about what design is, how it’s perceived, and how it affects the environment around us.
DESIGN
Design to me is a means to express creativity in a way that will affect the souroundings.
BACKGROUND
I was born in Tampa Florida & raised in Spain. I love to travel, mainly to Spain & Italy where my family lives. besides design, one of my passions is art, i love to create & admire.

COLOR + CULTURE
objectives: understand color and its use and meaning within different cultures.
conclusions: associating color with culture allows us to understand how colors are used in different cultures and the importance they possess.
ITALY
JAPAN
PALETTE energy passion
Italy is a country rich in culture, the arts, food, music, and family. Red and green can be popularly associated with Italy due to their appearance on the national flag. Red is also a color that can be seen often in association to wine, which is an important part of the culture. Green can also be seen in the beautiful Italian landscapes full of vineyards and nature. Warm shades of yellow and orange can be identified in the culture as common colors of buildings and provide a sense of warmth to the culture.

PALETTE
Japan is country known for their unique and intriguing culture. Colors play a big part of the culture and hold traditional meaning that is still enforced today. Red is one of the colors of the flag and is popularly used in celebrations. Blue, is associated with Japanese culture as it represents tranquility. Pink can be associated with cherry blossoms and further represents femininity, attributing delicacy to the Japanese culture.

COLOR + THEORY
color theory is the study and practice of a set of principles used to understand the relationships among colors. color has the ability to affect and transform a setting. colors possess qualities and make up systems.
objectives: understand color and its associated vocabulary as well as its systems.

COLOR + DESIGNERS
objectives: understand color through analysis of how color is used in a project.
conclusions: the colors in this project emphasize architectural elements and work with light in order to create an effect.

Built in 1948 & located in Mexico City, Luis Barragan’s house & studio is recognized as an internationally transcendent work of contemporary architecture. It now serves as a museum to display Barragan’s work. Barragan is known for minimalistic incorporation of color in his designs.

The use of color can mainly be seen on large elements of the space, such as a wall, floor or the natural landscape, these elements are emphasized through the color.
Pink is an essential color, its use relies on light to cast shadows & refelctions, serves as a contrasting color against the greenery of the landscape.
SUMMARY & CONCLUSION
The house features many solid white walls to allow light reflection and the use of natural wood tones throughout to incorporate nature into the design . Greenery provides colors of nature.

COLOR + PERCEPTION
different colors possess different associations, the user and color should have a relationship within an environment. success in interior design relies on color choice and expression.

MODULE 6
COLOR + FILM
objectives: analyze how color creates moods in a film.
conclusions: the colors in a film set the mood for the film as a whole as well as the individual scenes.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the world was originally a comic based on Scott pilgrim, a 23 year old guitarist in a band with his friends. The setting of the film is in a world that is basically a video game where he has to battle in order to show his love. He meets a girl named Ramona who captures his interest the second he sees her & becomes his new obsession. Ramona is mysterious and carries baggage of 7 exes that Scott must battle in order to win her over. As difficult and wild as the battles are, Scott continues in the games, not giving up as he is in love with Ramona and will do anything and fight anyone that it takes to be with her once and for all.

PALETTE
The main color palette of the movie feature the different colors of Ramona’s hair which are represenative of her, changing and full of surprises, which Scott discovers during the process of the movie. The colors featured are bright and are further enhanced through neon illumination that can be seen in the video game animated scenes.
PINK
This scene is the first time Scott talks to Ramona. Her bright pink hair calls attention and is emphasized by her pink shirt.
Pink is a delicate and feminine color which represents romanticism and love. At the beginning of the film the use of pink represents Scott’s feelings of love towards Ramona
Ramona & Scott’s first kiss. Ramona’s pink hair again is brought to attention through lights and animations that intensify the color and set the romantic mood of the scene.
BLUE In this scene Scott is turning to Ramona for advice as he’s having an internal conflict. Her hair is once again emphasized by her shirt. Blue is a color typically seen as calming and comfotable when it comes to emotions. It also is a color representitive of high technology. Since the movie takes place in a video game world, the use of blue lights help to depict this.
In this scene Ramona steps in during a battle between Scott and one of her exes. The blue gives emphasis to her hair color, calling attention to her
Green is a color that represents nature and growth. It can insinuate high energy and liveliness which are two key aspects of the ongoing fighting scenes.
In this scene there is an ongoing battle between Scott and one of Ramona’s ex’s. You can see a look of concern on her face for Scott.
GREEN
In this scene both Knives and Ramona are preparing to assist Scott in a battle with himself (but as an evil video game character).
HUES
The following scenes all feature the use of the color palette but in a glowing/ neon hue. This reinforces the colors and brings attention to certain important elements such as the battles, and Ramona’s hair. The use of these particular hues contribute to the aesthetic of the video game feature in the movie.

COLOR + BALANCE
color can be used to create balance. balance is the relationship of different hues when there is perceived visual weight. different types of color balance exists in order to achieve different visual effects.
objectives: understand how balance can be achieved through color as well as how it can affect a design.
MODULE 8
COLOR + RETAIL
conclusions: in this retail environment the colors are used to emphasize the products as well as to promote the brand.
objectives: analyze how color is used, applied and experienced in a retail space.
CONTRAST OF HUE
The store features a variety of products of an assortment of colors, in order to create balance and maintain a classical and elegant look. The bright white ceilings and the light colored stone on the walls calms the space and the wood features give the space a natural feeling. The bright colors of the products and the advertisements stand out against the rest of the space.The colors display the brands creativity and make the space seem inviting.
CONTRAST OF VALUE
This part of the store displays some of Louis Vuitton’s objects nomades. The colors of the chairs that are hanging from the ceiling contrast the natural textures of the room. The bright red and purple of the chairs are further accentuated in the wall art on the back wall that is also red, just of a different value. This brings the eye up and gives focus to the furniture which is the main featured product.
CONTRAST OF DESIGN FEATURE
This store has several features of art pieces. Here in this image, you can see the colored stone sculptures that define the space with their size & color. They align with the hallway & serve as a threshold into another part of the store.The colors set them apart from the rest of the furniture/objects/products in the space.
CONTRAST OF TEXTURE
The store features many different textures in its materials, textiles, and products. The furniture stands out with its bright colors balanced amongst the neutral colors and textures of the floorings, carpeting and other furniture pieces. The products are placed on different textured displays that emphasize them and draw attention to them, in other instances the textures of the products are what stand out amongst the displays.
CONTRAST OF FOCAL POINT
This store features metal screens that are based off of the shape of the monogram pattern. This feature not only serves as a reinforcement of the brand, showing its elegance through material, but it also brings immediate attention to the products featured within the metal installations. They serve as a focal point as it is unique to the store.

conclusion: in a hospitality environment, color can be used to shape a space and provide experiences.

linear circulation defined by green carpet draws the user into the space and directs them to the staircase
large round columns contrast surrounding linear elements, are placed to draw attention to important areas for circulation ( stairs and elevator )

gold curtains contrast the texture of hard wall surfaces and stairs, promote a sense of luxury in the space, adds color and brightness.
use of the same material for architectural elements such as the columns, flooring, and finishings (stairs and elevators) promote unity in the space.

COLOR + WORKPLACE
conclusion: in the workplace color effects employees and users of the space, the user of color in a space can stimulate users and provide a better experience.

the modern floor plan is occupied by open and transparently enclosed spaces. The yellow features serve as a guide and connecting element in the space. features such as the canopy, located at the entrance of the office help you find your way into the space, other yellow features such as the tables and other seating areas further guide you throughout and serve to identify the use of the different spaces. the office features a starbucks, which has become a main space as it is popular and is an area that stimulates conversation amongst employees. a lot of collaboration and circulation occurs around this area of the office.
DETAILS
The office not only uses color on a bigger scale with its large features, but it also incorporates color in the details, tying all of the spaces together. Edgy graphics displayed on the walls define the company and its values, displaying yellow as a main color of the space. Conference rooms feature yellow light fixtures that can be clearly seen through the glass, indicating an important space. Offices and workstations all features small yellow elements such as chairs, lamps, and staplers. Gray ottomans provide a stable place to sit and connect the reception areas to conference room ares (although separated by glass)
The company is seen as being innovative and obsessed with good design. The interior plays against the iconic modernism of the building in which it is located. The use of color can be seen in a variety of features throughout the space. It incompasses the architectural elements to allow for clear navigation through the large space, smaller features (furniture) to define the purpose of particular areas, as well as in even smaller details such as lights and office supplies
