Our primary mission is to generate resources to support and enrich the quality of life for our residents.

A LET T ER FROM OUR

THE CONTINUED HARD WORK OF THE FOUNDATION BOARD IN 2015 HAS ALLOWED US TO ACHIEVE MANY OF THE GOALS SET BY ITS DIRECTORS. The new Brandermill Woods bus purchase is a great example of team work. The residents requested an upgraded bus, the Foundation supplied 50% of the total costs and the Brandermill management put it in their budget to fund the remainder. The plan worked and everyone involved should be congratulated! The construction contract for the Assisted Living Bar is complete and the final building permits are currently being secured. I hope to attend the grand opening in the next few months. The Foundation also funded the Alive Inside project by purchasing iPods and music for the Therapeutic and Social Services Departments to use with residents of the Haven (The Health Care Center) and Assisted Living. It has turned a small investment into a successful addition to their program by providing music therapy to residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Music therapy for seniors helps with issues such as cognitive skills, speech skills, stress reduction, and physical and social skills.

President

Also, the greenhouse has been fully funded and will be a great addition to the Independent Living campus soon. We are pleased that a sign has been placed in the Wadkins Garden in remembrance of former board member Frances Wadkins. One of our most successful fund raising events continues to be the Brandermill Woods Annual Golf Tournament. The Senior Living Choices, Inc. Board of Directors choose to donate the proceeds to The Brandermill Woods Foundation. The money raised from this event allows us to fund the scholarship given each year to a member of the Brandermill staff to help fund continued education Every year, I try to express my gratitude to our Brandermill Woods staff, but feel I don’t quite do so properly. We are a good Board, we have great residents to whom we try our best to listen, but we have the BEST staff! They are family to the Board and the residents, and without them, we would not have accomplished the many projects over the last 15 years! Thank you.

2015 GOLF TOURNAMENT

ALIVE INSIDE

Brandermill Woods Retirement Community held its annual golf tournament on October 1, 2015 at Brandermill Country Club. $27,136 was earned from the Golf Tournament. This amount was deposited into The Big Bus Fund to go toward the purchase of a new bus.

Holly DeJarnette, Social Services Coordinator, proposed a Foundation project for iPods and headphones to provide music therapy to residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Music has a positive effect on seniors with memory issues. $1,000 will be used for the purchase of iPods, headphones and music purchases. The project has been extremely successful and the residents have really enjoyed the benefits of music!

Success could not have been met without our wonderful team players, company sponsors and volunteers. We appreciate your continuing generosity, support and participation which make our event such a success. See you this year on October 6, 2016 for the 12:00 p.m. shotgun start!

BIG BUS In early 2015, a resident board member proposed that The Foundation look into funding or partially funding a new large bus for Brandermill Woods. The Foundation agreed to offer 50% of the funding, not to exceed $60,000. During 2015, a 28-passenger van was ordered and expected to be delivered the beginning of 2016. The Foundation Logo will be displayed on one of the sides of the bus.

YARD SALES We have reached a total of $12,088.65 in yard sales.

SOUP FUNDRAISER Back by popular demand, The Brandermill Woods Foundation held another SOUP SALE fundraiser with the proceeds benefiting future projects. Graham, Dining Director, and his staff created the following made-from-scratch soups: She Crab, Mushroom Madeira, Minestrone and Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato. Proceeds went to the general fund. 210 quarts of soup were sold, earning $1,839 for The Foundation.

ASSISTED LIVING BAR The Foundation has decided to fund the construction of the bar to be located in the current Assisted Living Private Dining Room. Plans are being finalized and a contractor has been chosen. Expected start date of construction is mid-2016.

Four Easy Ways to Leave a Legacy

A letter or a phone call is often all it takes to include a benevolent contribution to The Brandermill Woods Foundation in your longterm planning. Your gift not only helps to fulfill our mission to serve seniors, it also removes assets from your taxable estate. A Codicil to your will: Let your attorney know what you would like to do. Designation of retirement plan balance: Leave part or all of the remaining balance of your IRA or 401(k) plan. Contact your plan’s manager for a beneficiary designation form. Bank Accounts: Balances remaining in certain bank accounts can create a legacy. Complete a Designation of Beneficiary form at your bank. Life Insurance: An old policy that has outlived its usefulness can make a substantial gift and provide a tax deduction. Complete a Designation of Beneficiary form through your agent. Please let us know of steps you take to include The Brandermill Woods Foundation in your estate plans. It helps us to assure good stewardship of your gift, and lets us show our heartfelt gratitude on behalf of those who will benefit from your generosity! [ PAGE NINE ]
