We hope you have enjoyed the amazing weather we received early this winter. The recent above-average temperatures (reaching 75 degrees on December 15th) have been great for golf! These warmer conditions have also given us some extended time to complete sod projects prior to the ground freezing.
Fairway Sod Work
Recently the decision was made to sod the back tee at the Practice Facility in the spring. Sodding 100% of the back tee will allow for the earliest possible opening of the tee in 2022. As a result of this decision, we will use any existing good turf from the back tee to continue dormant sodding in weak areas throughout the golf course. Recent sod work has been completed on holes #3, 6, 9, 10, 12, 14, 16, 17 and 18. After completion of all fairway sod work, the back practice tee will be prepped for spring sod. Many of the sodded areas seen throughout the course are still being evaluated for drainage. If drainage is installed, the laid sod won’t go to waste; the sod would simply be picked up and put back after any drainage is installed. Pictured to the right are sodded areas on #16 after dormant sod was replaced in existing weak areas.

#14 green with the “Double Cup System” Double Cup System
Starting December 17th, the GCM team implemented the “Double Cup System” for the winter months. This system is used during winter periods to spread out foot traffic when new cups can’t consistently be cut due to frozen conditions. We ask that golfers rotate the flags to the opposite hole upon the completion of each hole. The arrow in the picture on the left points toward the second cup where the flag would need to be moved after completing the hole. This rotation is necessary to spread out foot traffic during these winter periods.
Thank you for your cooperation. We hope to see you on the course!
