Golf Course Maintenance

GRANT SUDERMAN SUPERINTENDENT grants@lochlloyd.com

The fall season is upon us … bringing great weather for golf as well as courseenhancement projects. Many of these practices cause a short-term disruption which in turn provides long-term sustainability. We value your patience as we implement these cultural practices listed below. Sod Projects: We recently completed our fescue sod install on green surrounds #2, #3, #5 and #6. Fescue sod was used to replace the existing Bluegrass (Bentgrass on #2) which struggled with traffic and summer stress. Newer fescue varieties possess improved playability and summer stress tolerance. Zoysia sod has also been installed on select desiccated fairway areas on holes #7, #9, #14 and #16. Please abide by any roped-off areas to aid in turf establishment. Seeding: We recently re-seeded #1 green tee and #3 approach (pictured below) to create a uniform, sustainable playing surface. Overseeding the rough will continue through October.

Aerification: Greens aerification was completed August 23rd-24th. This proved to be a smooth process as all holes have recovered and grown in. We recently began aerifying and topdressing tee surfaces that were declining from traffic stress. Tee blocks will be temporarily moved to alternate tee surfaces to aid in the recovery of these tees. We plan to finish tee surfaces on October 4th. Natives: We continue to mow and trim native areas. These areas have grown aggressively the past few weeks but will slow as cooler weather approaches. Water Management: A top priority has been water management. We are constantly evaluating our irrigation practices and auditing our irrigation system to promote firm, consistent and healthy playing conditions. Best Regards, Grant Suderman Golf Course Superintendent

Our team continues to face staffing challenges and our jobs become even more difficult when we don’t have advance reservations. Please help us by calling the Clubhouse to make your dining reservations. As we ease into fall, our hours of operation are changing. Starting this month, the Fireside Grill will be closed Tuesdays; however, the 19th and 20th Hole will be open 8:30a to 5p for beverage service with a limited sandwich/snack menu. No to-go service will be available on Tuesdays. On Sundays, in-Club dining will be available from 11a to 4p; no to-go service will be available after 3:30p. We anticipate these changes to be temporary and hope to resume our regular full services once staffing levels are back to normal.
