La cantante y compositora Mónica Naranjo regresa a Mallorca convertida en Madame Noir para meterse en la piel de una diva de los años cincuenta que junto a un piano de cola interpreta temas propios como Enamorada. “Es una mujer apasionadamente cínica, aunque ella no es consciente de nada; tiene tanto miedo que no se ve ni los pies”, advierte la de Figueres. Admiradora de Ute Lemper y Edith Piaf, la exmaruja asesina reconoce que el personaje, el que interpreta ella, es “bastante excesivo” y lleva “las emociones al extremo”. Siempre en constante búsqueda, anuncia ópera rock. Quizá también la traiga a la isla, pero para eso habrá que esperar. Antes, este mismo sábado, la podremos escuchar y ver en Trui Teatre.

Todos ellos actuarán el sábado en el Polígono de Santa Maria, en una noche que promete dosis de energía y escupinajos, contra el sistema, la Iglesia, el fútbol y el dinero que todo lo compra. Quién dijo indignados. Cabreados, el que menos. Una noche para tomarle el pulso a los grupos que, desde el lado del punk, buscan un sitio en la escena.

Mark Ronson es toda una estrella, un músico elegante que va camino de pasar a la historia como uno de los grandes, alguien capaz de convertir el Toxic de Britney Spears en un éxito mundial y de ganarse el respeto de Amy Winehouse, a quien le produjo la mitad de Back To Black. En su haber también cuenta con colaboraciones con MNDR, Kyle Falconer, Andrew Wyatt, Rose Elinor Dougall, Boy George o Simon Le Bon. Cuando Ronson entra en movimiento, las pistas bailan hip hop, música negra y r&b. Seguro que el Mallorca Rocks se rinde a sus pies, a sus manos, a su talento. Otro as que sacan de la manga los de Magaluf, siempre a la vanguardia. Compartirá cartel con Fenech Soler, la última sorpresa de los clubes londinenses.
! ! ! Prosigue la andadura por los escenarios mallorquines de estos dos músicos enormes como son Arantxa Andreu y Jaume Tugores. La pareja anda presentando los temas del que será el primer trabajo discográfico en solitario de la cantante, crecida al amparo de La Búsqueda, un grupo con el que ha mantenido unas relaciones más que satisfactorias, no solo para ella, también para sus seguidores, que se cuentan a decenas. Sus canciones están tocadas por una bella simplicidad y recorren paisajes interiores para acabar encontrándose con alguien al otro lado. Y quien mejor que Tugores, guitarrista salpicado por melodías transparentes y saladas, como su querido Mediterráneo, para arroparla en escena.

20 JUL 11 - 26 JUL 11 15 High Hands for Zane Lowe and Mark Ronson… After more than a few days of intense heat, when living in the heart of San Antonio felt like being locked inside some kind of cruel Balearic greenhouse, last Wednesday evening was, thankfully, cool and airy and therapeutically starlit. To celebrate, a great youthful mob had gathered in and around the main lanes and avenues that encircle the Ibiza Rocks Hotel. It was, I remember, a largely English crowd thousands of tanned girls flaunting expertly painted toenails, and gangs of grinning muscle chuds holding luminous blue bottles of WKD and sweating neat beads of creatine - who'd flown in from Leeds and London and wherever to watch DJ Zane Lowe, and producer Mark Ronson, play a live DJ set in the vast Rocks Hotel courtyard. Radio One DJs Jaymo and Andy George were booked to play the warm up set, and, strangely enough, they looked and sounded like a younger, less honed version of the combine of men that would eventually replace them behind the CDJs. Whereas Jaymo and Andy George appeared notably innocent and naturally clean shaven, Zane Lowe and Mark Ronson were clearly made of sterner stuff; their voices sat an octave lower and their cheeks were blessed with a bristled covering of thirty-ish designer stubble. Sonically, however, nothing much had changed; it was going to be a full-on night of pop and rock mash-up sounds, quickly interspersed with rhythmic hip-hop bass-lines, designed to keep the young crowd constantly moving to easily identifiable rhythms and singing along to chart topping chorus breakdowns. When the students go back to school in the autumn, this is the sound you'll hear pumping out of all the best university dancehalls. But there's no revolution here; this is Emperor Rosco rebranded for the early 21st Century, and like all the very best tried and trusted formulas, it really works to pull in the big crowds… because, again, on Wednesday night, the huge Hotel patio was absolutely packed with revellers - the gig sold out quickly and the dancefloor was almost as chocker as the Fatboy Slim performance a few weeks earlier. So then… what tunes were Lowe and Ronson playing? Well, throughout the entirety of the event, I chose to scribble down a number of bullet point observations on my junior

Their DJ sets are, ostensibly, the Radio One mash-up sound, augmented by lots of mic hype and plenty of jumping around on stage. Zane Lowe, especially, has a real stage presence, and although his performance was meant to appear fun and spontaneous - almost as if the boys had rolled up outside the Hotel gates, grabbed their laptops and a collection of random CDs, before leaping aboard the Ibiza Rocks stage without giving any reasonable consideration to their upcoming performance there were plenty of us lolling around in the packed out audience who appreciated the amount of forethought that had gone into putting on such a slick and cunningly pitched performance, cannily designed to mesmerize the next generation. GARDENERS' CORNER Any keen gardener will know that there are a large number of trees that can be used in a garden for different purposes, from fruit trees to decorative ones. Some trees are grown for their foliage or flowers, some as hedges or to create shady areas in a garden. Similarly some times plants that are regarded as shrubs could also be used as small trees for special effects in a garden design. Therefore care should be taken when deciding which type of tree to choose and where to plant it. Obviously trees that will grow very tall or have strong root systems should not be planted next to a house, as the roots may well damage the foundations as the tree grows. One type of tree that should always be planted away from a house or wall is the Eucalyptus which will grow quite tall in Ibiza and is best used as a specimen tree where it can be seen from the house or a point in the garden such as a terrace. Specimen trees are used as a focal point to draw the eye of the beholder to a certain point in a garden. They are frequently grown in the centre or edge of lawns and are chosen for their form, size or flowers. The form of a tree is an important criteria. When choosing them some will grow upright, while others, such as some of the conifer, will grow conically or in pyramid shapes. Others can be weeping trees that hang downwards and are quite a good choice to be grown next to a pond. It is normally a good idea to plant fruit trees, such as lemon or orange, close to the kitchen, whereas a pomegranate will have interest through all the seasons as the leaves are red in the spring, flowers red in the summer and will fruit in late summer while in the Autumn the
