Hannah’s Story
By Kathryn Jarmey
The following stories were written by me, Kathryn (24) I’m Bipolar and have been diagnosed with depression and general anxiety. I decided to create a storybook based on my personal experiences. To show young people how mental health conditions can affect our everyday lives. That you are never alone; all you need to do is reach out. This book has been made with the help of Fixers, a wonderful charity that gives young people a voice.
This is Hannah, she’s 19, bipolar, and is excited to live on her own for the very first time.
Hannah is finding it difficult to keep on top of her household bills, she doesn’t manage very well and gets stressed quite easily.
Hannah is also working long hours to pay for everything, she is rarely able to afford the things she wants.
Eventually, everything gets a bit much for Hannah, she doesn’t know where to go, or what to do‌
But she finds the courage to talk to a friend; discussing her life, bills, work and her condition. It’s a small step that will lead to happier mental well-being.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. No matter the circumstances, there are always people who will talk with you and help you.

Will his friends understand his problems at university, or his mental health condition?
Eventually, everything gets a bit much. Jack needs to talk to someone, but he’s afraid.
...and so is his new social life. It’s all becoming a bit overwhelming, making Jack a bit paranoid.
Jack has a lot of new loans to manage, his university workload is demanding...
This is Jack, he’s 21, schizophrenic, and stressed about living on his own for the very first time.
This booklet aims to help young people with mental health conditions to make the transition into independent living. We just want young people to know that, it’s ok to ask for help when things are tough, and that you are never alone. ________ Created by Kathryn, a Fixer from Bristol who wants to give other young people with mental health conditions a guiding light and support when it’s needed. This booklet has been produced with the help of Fixers, the charity that gives young people a voice. These are the views / experiences / opinions of a young person and should not be relied on or usead as a substitute for formal (medical or other) advice.
