THANK YOU for supporting Flagler College It is my honor and privilege to serve as the College’s fourth President. After just a few months in my new assignment, I find myself overwhelmed by the energies of the student body, the dedication of faculty and staff, the generosity of loyal donors, and the commitment of alumni to support their alma mater. To present my feelings in a word familiar to members of our student body: “Wow!” Wow! That we attracted over 5,500 applications for this year’s incoming class. Wow! That we enrolled a record number of students who received offers of acceptance. Wow! That our incoming class is among the strongest academic profile of classes enrolled in recent years. Wow! That we enrolled students from 44 states and 45 foreign countries, including 23% minorities. I believe that the strength of the College lies in a faithful commitment to values that are long-standing combined with a forward-looking focus on the challenges of the future. We recognize that while our students may expect that their college education will guarantee them lifetime economic security, there is no simple formula to prepare

The notable achievements of the College’s alumni attest to our success in meeting this objective. As we approach the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the College, we confront another challenge: to control our costs. The College’s founder, Lawrence Lewis, Jr., endeavored to establish a college that would offer its students the quality education associated with “elite” institutions at a cost that was both reasonable and affordable. Since the College’s re-organization 46 years ago, federal and state regulations have made college finances far more complicated than they were in the 1970s. Individual donor and foundation support is critical to enable the College to fulfill the goal our founder envisioned for us. Mr. Lewis would be pleased to know that Flagler College’s tuition charges today are less than half the national average for independent institutions. As we embark on the 2017-2018 academic year, it is my hope that we preserve the best of the past, embrace the challenges of the future, and continue to honor those whose generosity and sacrifice made it possible for Flagler College to become what it is today.
