PR E S IDEN T' S LETTER Dear Friends, This has been a remarkable and yet unpredictable year, and as I reflect upon it, I am grateful for the strength and resiliency of our Flagler Family. Our students, faculty and staff demonstrated this as they successfully navigated a world no one could have imagined when we began classes in August. That commitment, strength and resiliency was much easier to realize because of the care and support we received from our generous donors. Your generosity provided our faculty with the tools needed to transition classes to a remote model and allowed our students to focus on their studies without worrying about unexpected expenses. Now more than ever, the smallest acts of kindness are making the greatest impact on the lives of our students. There is no greater demonstration of this than the newly established Flagler College Cares: Emergency Relief Fund. Barbara L. Armstrong, ’80
A loyal donor of 21 years, Barbara recently established the Barbara L. Armstrong, ’80 Endowed Scholarship for Study Abroad to foster opportunities for future Flagler students. Flagler College is working to prepare students for the world of tomorrow, a world full of complex people and challenges on a global scale. That is why providing our students with high impact learning opportunities is a major focus at Flagler. Scholarship endowments are critical to making sure all students have these opportunities that will help prepare them to become leaders of tomorrow. This year, Barbara Armstrong, ’80 stepped forward to make more study abroad opportunities available to our students. Barbara, who majored in Spanish and Latin American studies, served for two years in the Peace Corps before becoming a United States Foreign Service Officer. Barbara knows firsthand about the global world we live in as she spent over 20 years serving in U.S. Embassies and Consulates across the world. Her career path was guided by an opportunity she had as a student to spend a semester abroad. Now Barbara is helping to foster opportunities for future students through the newly established Barbara L. Armstrong, ’80 Endowed Scholarship for Study Aboard.

David A. Iannone, ’86
To say that David Iannone is a proud alumnus of Flagler College would be an understatement. David graduated from Flagler in 1986, with a degree in History and pursued a career in the insurance industry. After relocating to southwest Florida when he graduated, David started and then opened his own insurance agency, Flagler Insurance. If the name of his insurance agency doesn’t attest to his love for Flagler College, his planned gift surely does. To solidify his passion for Flagler College, David made a gift by designating the College as the beneficiary of a Life Insurance Policy which includes him as a new member of the Henry M. Flagler Heritage Society. David’s love for Flagler developed as not just a love for the College, but for the incredible legacy that Henry Flagler himself left behind. With a successful insurance career under his belt, David sold his business in 2015 and is glad the new owners kept the name he gave it over 20 years
ago. David even hangs his own insurance license at the Flagler Insurance Agency and is proud to have that as a part of his life and legacy. David also plays tennis. While he was only able to play leisurely during his time at Flagler, tennis remains an important part of his current lifestyle. His planned gift will fund a new scholarship, the David A. Iannone Endowed Scholarship for History. This scholarship will be awarded to a Flagler College history major, with a preference given to a student on the men’s or women’s tennis team. In addition to his planned gift, David
has supported the College with annual gifts since graduating in 1986. He has given in support of the Dr. Thomas Graham Endowed Scholarship to honor Dr. Graham’s commitment to teaching and mentoring students, and the renovation of the Alumni House. Having no kids of his own, David is proud to be able to help a Flagler College student, explaining that, “giving back to someone less fortunate feels good.” David plans to continue his support of Flagler College and its students today and well into the future.
