Flagler College President, John Delaney
P R E S IDEN T ’S LE T T ER Dear Flagler Family,
It brings me great joy to reflect on the success of the College this past year. As the new President of Flagler College, I could not be prouder to be a Saint. Our campus is beautiful and a gem of our community, but it’s the amazing people who make up the heart of the College. This was ever-present with our most recent US News and World Report rankings, particularly ranking first in undergraduate teaching and fourth in best regional colleges. Our rankings are a testament to our talented faculty and the relationships they build with our students. In the last year, we’ve won championships, published research, presented at well-known conferences, authored books, landed our dream jobs, and made lifelong friends. We’ve honored the past as a campus community by being thoughtful stewards of our historic campus locations. But we’ve also looked to the future by developing vibrant and transformative programming that prepared our students for their next chapter in life. Our successes were made possible through donors who have created a means and a smoother pathway for Flagler students, faculty, coaches, and campus leaders to successfully accomplish their goals. Goals that change futures, prepare leaders, and inspire others to be productive citizens with integrity. We all came together this year, took care of one another in challenging times, and celebrated during our successful moments. That speaks to what we’ve always been— a Flagler family built on the principles set forth by Henry Flagler and the foundation established by our core values. Thank you for supporting this great College and our future−this is only the beginning of what we can do together. Go Saints! Sincerely,
John Delaney President 3
Thank You, Donors! The Annual Report's Honor Roll of Donors recognizes thousands of individuals who donate to a variety of funds and activities across Flagler College. To celebrate those who have given this past year, this Honor Roll represents cumulative giving totals for the twelve-month period from July 1, 2020, through June 30, 2021, for gifts of $250 or more. For a complete listing of the Honor Roll of Donors and a special thank you video message from Flagler students, visit www.Flagler.edu/ThankYou.
We make every effort to ensure the accuracy of the Honor Roll of Donors. If we have omitted your name or made an error with regard to your gift, please contact 904.819.6437 or email giving@flagler.edu.

Receiving a scholarship, as well as Flagler College Cares: Emergency Relief Funding, provided the financial aid I needed to not only continue my education, but pay my rent too. These emergency funds are a testament to how generous donors in the Flagler community care about my struggles. They helped me get back on my feet during the pandemic.”

The new facility for Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse will be very important to the culture being built here for our NCAA D2 Lacrosse teams. The quality of the field’s surface will be appreciated by our student-athletes for many years. Flagler teams will have a competitive advantage being able to practice in most conditions while allowing full team development. Support from Flagler College Athletics’ generous donor base has elevated this project to a top class facility that will bring pride to the Flagler College community. Thank you to all who have made this investment in the future of Flagler College Lacrosse.”

The Kenan Distinguished Professorship has thoroughly transformed my professional and creative life. As a full-time teaching artist, the professional development support has seeded new threads of production, giving me the time and technology to take risks in video and stop animation that simply would not have been options three years ago. The programming funds make it possible to introduce our students to prominent artists and scholars like Michael Ray Charles, Ilana Harris-Babou and Stephen Asma. Ultimately it is our students who are the primary beneficiaries, as pedagogy evolves through your support. HIDDEN HISTORY PONCE HALL’S COURT YARD FOUNTAIN
The fountain located in the courtyard of Ponce Hall, formerly the Hotel Ponce de Leon, is an architectural centerpiece, but did you know it’s also a sundial? This working sundial features 12 frogs along the fountain’s perimeter, which represent each hour of the day. The four turtles lining the interior portion of the fountain symbolize the four seasons: winter, spring, summer, and fall.

On behalf of the Flagler College student body, and as president of Phi Alpha Omega, I want to thank you for your support towards Flagler College and our community service organization! Your generosity has enabled us to provide service to the community, Flagler College and Phi Alpha. Support to our funds during the Roar and Raise Giving Challenge allowed Phi Alpha to provide assistance with membership dues and large community service events this fall. Thank you for continuing to help us reach our full potential as the longest standing club on campus.”

The professors are my role models to this day; of tenacity, patience and intelligence. Their guidance propelled me into a fulfilling career where I can now help my clients in an authentic and knowledgeable way. On top of my education, I made life-long friends who walk through thick and thin beside me. I am confident being accepted to Flagler was one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever received. “Having married a Flagler alumna and now with a daughter in attendance, I was thrilled to get involved with the Parent Leadership Council as a way for me to directly contribute to the Flagler community. It’s allowed me to meet and hear directly from the administration and professors about important topics, and then be an ambassador for the school in sharing the important messages. And of course, the simple act of personal outreach to incoming freshman parents that the PLC provides is a great way to welcome all into the Flagler Family. I look forward to working further with the PLC and meeting as many of the parents as possible!” —Bill Picard * Loyal Lion

Flagler College thanks former members who completed their service this past year: Mr. Anthony C. Sutton ’03, Vice Chair* Mrs. Martha Ferguson ’81 *
“Giving back to these students and serving on the advisory boards of the LEAD Fund and the Saints Club is one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had. The students with whom I work are some of the most talented I have met, and that is due in part to the effort and care Flagler’s staff and professors put forth every single day. I am so proud of the positive impact the College has on its community, and I am very excited to be a part of it.” —Richard Keller

FLAGLER SOCIETY Q & A
Q A
WHY ARE LEGACY GIFTS SO IMPORTANT TO THE FINANCIAL HEALTH OF NONPROFIT INSTITUTIONS?
A legacy gift is, by definition, designed to provide future benefits. Legacy commitments enable a nonprofit, like Flagler College, to build a pipeline of vital financial resources. These gifts help guarantee the organization’s long-range growth and allow donors to demonstrate their dedication not just in the present, but for decades to come. SCAN TO LEARN MORE ABOUT PLANNED GIVING
Q A
WHAT ARE THE MOST POPULAR TYPES OF LEGACY GIFTS?
The bequest is a classic legacy gift, and many people choose to make a bequest in their wills or trusts. Some give a percentage of an estate; others, a specific dollar amount; others, personal property, real estate, or artwork. Another flexible option is a beneficiary designation in a retirement account or insurance plan. You can name a nonprofit whose mission you care deeply about, like Flagler College, as a partial, whole, or contingent beneficiary—and the charity’s tax-exempt status will allow retirement assets to pass tax free to the organization, making this a particularly tax-wise gift.

ENDOWED AND ANNUAL FUNDS Endowments are a powerful investment in the future of our students and faculty. Not only do endowed scholarships help students offset the full cost of their education, but faculty initiatives, like endowed professorships, help recruit and retain the best and brightest academic thought leaders. Endowments can also enhance the operation of college centers and programs. When you invest in Flagler College, you propel our campus community into the forefront of innovative thinking. As we move Flagler forward, endowed funds offer stability, flexibility and confidence in the future of the College, while driving improvements in the quality of teaching and student life. Annual scholarships and program funds also provide immediate aid to Flagler College students and enrich their academic experiences. Establishing an endowed or annual fund is a meaningful way to support the College and provide our Saints with the lasting gift of a transformational education.
