Elephant's in London
Elephant Parade London is London's biggest outdoor art exhibition. With an estimated audience of 25 million, the campaign aims to raise over ÂŁ2 million for the endangered Asian elephant and will benefit 17 UK conservation charities and more than ten projects in Asia. The event has over 258 brightly painted elephants located across central London throughout May and June 2010. Each model elephant is decorated by a different artist, designer or celebrity. They are bright and beautiful additions to the city; enhancing the parks, street corners and buildings of London. The locations include: Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly, Southbank, Carnaby Street, Marble Arch, Green Park, Hyde Park, St James's Park, Notting Hill Gate, Kensington High Street, Westfield, Selfridges, Royal Chelsea Hospital, The Natural History Museum, The Royal Exchange and Greenwich. Elephant Family has been campaigning for the conservation of the endangered Asian elephant since 2002, and is the only UK charity dedicated solely and exclusively to saving the Asian elephant from extinction in the wild. The mission of Elephant Parade is to become the world's largest financial support organisation for Asian elephants. This new project aims to raise public awareness, gather signatures for a government petition, and raise vital funds for conservation projects in Asia. http://www.elephantparadelondon.org/petition/
I only found out about the elephant parade; two days before they were to be removed from the london streets, and sold at auction. This gave me one day to plan and photograph as many as possible. On saturday 19th june 2010; I left home at 7.00 am and spent the next 12 hours walking around london, finding the elephants. In total I managed to photograph about 100 of the 258 elephants; and this collection is what I think is the best of the one's I found. George Griffin London 2010
