Nelson Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years in prison on Robben Island and visitors can still see the small cell in which he was held along with the rock pile that he started during his imprisonment. Go on wine tours outside of the city around Stellenbosch – here you can sample world-famous offerings as well as taking in breathtaking scenery. Your journey After picking up your hire car, your adventure through one of the South African capitals begins with a four-night stay at the 4-star Protea Hotel by Marriott Cape Town Victoria Junction. Next, you’ll spend two nights at the Spier Hotel followed by a further two nights at the Garden Route Game Lodge. Your trip concludes with a further three nights at Protea Hotel by Marriott Cape Town Victoria Junction before returning home. You will have daily breakfast included throughout your stay as well as two game drives.
Cape Town With its iconic Table Mountain, the beautiful city of Cape Town is a metropolis that is rich in history, culture and scenery, and visitors will be spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding on what to do and see here. A lively metropolis surrounded by sea. mountains, nature parks and vineyards, Cape Town is a great introduction to South Africa. Gaze across the city from the top of Table Mountain or from Signal Hill, and see the many wild flowers that grow in profusion in the nature park that surrounds the peaks. Next, you can explore the national park of the Cape Good Hope, where you can hang out with Penguin at Boulder’s Beach. Journey into modern history by sailing to the infamous Robben Island. a prison colony for centuries, it was used during the days of apartheid to hold several political prisoners, with the most famous being Nelson Mandela, who spent 18 years out of a total of 27 behind bars here. Travelling back to the mainland you can either gather your impressions of the day, before reaching the V&A harbour where you’ll find plenty of bars and restaurants to while away the evening. A stay in Cape Town should also not be without day trips to nearby sights and culinary destinations. Tour the Stellenbosch vineyards to sample some of the great South African grapes, travel to Walker Bay for a chance to watch whales or travel north to the West Coast National Park, where you’ll be able to see thousands of unique wildflowers.
