Commercial applications of leds

Commercial Applications of LEDs As a consumer, you’ve likely heard of LEDs before. Most people tend to think of small indicator lights when they hear the word LED, like the lights on their security system or smoke detector that never stop working, but are extremely small. In reality, LED technology has much broader applications that can help save environmental resources and money for both consumers as well as businesses. A number of years ago, fluorescent lighting helped revolutionize the way we cut down on energy costs by making it possible to light the same area for about a tenth the power of a standard incandescent bulb, while replacing the bulbs eight times less often. By now, fluorescent lighting has become common knowledge, even though it isn’t used everywhere. LED lighting is essentially the next stage in efficient lighting technology. Advantages LED lighting has a number of advantages over even fluorescent lighting. The most basic is that they take even less power, and last even longer. LED bulbs designed for the same incandescent-compatible sockets in your home last ten times longer than fluorescents and up to 80 times longer than incandescent, so replacement ceases to be a routine concern. They also take a third of the power of a fluorescent bulb, or around 1/30th the power of a standard incandescent bulb. Other than these basic advantages, LEDs are unlike fluorescent and incandescent lights in four other ways. They are much more durable, and can be used in much more hazardous situations as a result. They contain no mercury, a positive for the environment and safety. They don’t heat up; although they produce heat, it is again about 1/30th the amount of an incandescent bulb, which leaves essentially no practical effect. Finally they can provide focused light much more effectively than incandescent or fluorescent lights, which can be an advantage in some situations where focused light or corner placement is necessary. Commercial Applications

Because LEDs are a relatively new technology, they have certain drawbacks right now that have prevented their widespread commercial use in the past. However, in the present, advances in technology are making them a better and better commercial choice. Commercial buildings, from warehouses to offices, stand to save substantial amounts of money on energy by switching from fluorescent lighting to LED neon lighting control. There is a high initial cost to LEDs, however, because they are a relatively new technology. But the price has already decreased to the point where the cost can be made back within five to seven years, well within the life of a set of LEDs. LED Neon rope light technology also provides a distinct advantage as a substitute for neon lighting in signs and large scale displays, both in terms of the power and because neon LEDs last much longer than standard neon signs.
