The story of FlexQube began over 30 years ago in central Sweden when three boys developed a love for playing with Lego®. As they grew up and started their professional careers that love of being able to build something together never left them.
While working for a global manufacturer of construction equipment, one of the founders noticed that materials management wasn’t keeping up with modern demands. The industry norm of welded solutions wasn’t adaptable enough for the constant change that the industry was experiencing. The FlexQube idea was born.
FlexQube’s business idea is to develop and offer a flexible system with few standardised components for safe, ergonomic and cost-efficient logistics. Since 2010, we’ve helped over 700 factories and manufacturers worldwide create a more productive, profitable, safe, and ergonomic material handling and flow. MODULAR & ROBUST SHELF SOLUTIONS.
Shelf carts can be used to transport a wide range of materials. Most commonly that are used to transport totes, bins & containers of varrying sizes. A FlexQube shelf cart consists of three different categories of modules: 1. Shelves – When designing a shelf cart you always start with the shelves for which the following points needs to be taken into consideration: • Shelf Size: The shelves come in 7 cm increments for depth & length • Shelf Type: FlexQube offers four different shelf types which you can mix and match as you like (Flat, Flow, Extendable & Rollers) • Number & Spacing: How many shelves do you need and how much spacing do you need between them? 2. Transportation modules which can include casters, handlebars, tow bars, all the way up to our smart building blocks to create a self driving eQart. 3. The framework and shelves can be adapted and reinforced to optimise the cart for your needs. The main deciding factors are weight capacity, size and transportation method. For example tugger carts always uses two vertical FlexBeams in each corner while most push carts use a single.

Before you start the process of selecting a cart make sure to properly analyse what you need from the cart and ask yourself the following questions: • How would you like to transport the cart? • At what frequency do you need to transport the parts? • How many parts per cart? • Weight of load?
NICE TO HAVE VS NEED TO HAVE
In the end cost is always a key aspect of any project and in many cases you can save both time and money by doing a proper analysis of your needs at the start of a project. Extra features are always nice but do you really need them? Do you need to be able to move the cart manually? Do you need a 1000 kg load capacity? Does the shelf need to be extendable? In the end it’s always a trade off between price and functionality and that is important to keep in mind from the get go. In the example below Cart A is about half the price of Cart B.

FLAT SHELF PUSH CARTS. The flat shelf is the most basic and popular option of our shelf carts. It is cost efficient, strong and reliable. A good option for most picking operations.

FLOW SHELF PUSH CARTS. A flow shelf cart uses gravity to aid in the flow of materials, stored within totes, bins, and boxes. You are able to store the same amount of boxes and bins in a smaller amount of space. Your operators can use a FIFO system (first in, first out) for more natural material rotation. Flow racks are ideal for use in a manufacturing supermarket and make picking your components much easier.

EXTENDABLE SHELF PUSH CARTS.
An extendable shelf gives the operator better access to the material and can make the picking process a lot more efficient. Another benefit of the extendable shelf is that you can space the shelves tighter since you don’t need to take the shelf above in to consideration when taking the materials out. The top shelf is usually fixed since there is no need to have it extendable in most cases.

FLOW RACKS. Just like the flow shelf carts, a flow rack uses gravity to aid in the flow of material but can only be used for totes, bins, boxes or parts with a flat surface that can rest against the rollers. However, it is much more efficient when the cart or rack needs more depth since there is no friction between the rollers and the boxes.
