A Holistic Approach to Dentistry
A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO DENTISTRY
Dr. Ireland
Dentist, Northern Arizona Biological Dentistry
In 2016, Dr. Barbara Ireland was deciding where to build a holistic dental practice. Her research landed her family in Flagstaff, Arizona. Dr. Ireland was shocked to find that, in spite of the numerous naturopathic and integrative medical care options available, the northern portion of Arizona had little to no integrative dental care opportunities. This fact, coupled with her family's love for the mountains and seasonal northern Arizona beauty, solidified the decision to plant roots in Flagstaff.
Dr. Ireland and her husband/office manager, Andrew Kirkpatrick, were able to open Northern Arizona Biological Dentistry late 2017. They started out with one or two patients a day, networking with the local naturopaths, chiropractors and other integrative-minded businesses in the Flagstaff area. Historically, anyone interested in this type of dental care had to travel to Phoenix. Within the first six months, Dr. Ireland and Andy began to see growth at an unexpected rate and are now thrilled to report having a whole new list of stresses surrounding keeping up with a fast-growing dental office.
Biological dentistry is not a specialty. It is a paradigm shift with the basic fundamental premise of treading as lightly as possible on the patient’s bio-terrain, while delivering high quality dental care using the most biocompatible materials and methods available. At Northern Arizona Biological Dentistry, they offer alternatives to metal or BPA-laden restorative materials and facilitate biocompatibility blood testing for the more chemically sensitive patients.
They offer a safe amalgam filling removal technique that protects both the patient and the clinicians from excessive exposure to mercury vapors. Mercury is the third most toxic substance to humans and makes up over 50% of an amalgam filling. They use minimally invasive restorative techniques and offer Myobrace, a myofuntional airway-centered orthodontic treatment that treats the cause of crooked teeth rather than the symptoms with no relapse or bonded retainers. They offer PerioLase (the only laser FDA certified for regenerative periodontal procedures) LANAP laser treatment for periodontal disease that can stimulate regeneration of the bone and gums and often save even the most hopeless teeth.
Dr. Ireland feels grateful for the warm reception in the Flagstaff community and is currently welcoming new patients to Northern Arizona Biological Dentistry.
