Flinders is passionate about addressing the needs of an ageing global population through education, research, industry and community partnerships. In 2014 we opened the nation’s first healthy ageing teaching and research facility in partnership with the ACH Group and SA Health. In 2015 we appointed the first Chair of Restorative Care in Australia.
NEW INNOVATIVE COURSES
We are in tune with our fast moving world and that is why we are introducing new courses in exercise science. The Bachelor of Exercise Science is available to international students in 2017 and is accredited by Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). Nutrition and allied health specialisations prepare graduates for postgraduate study in nutrition and dietetics, physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
RESEARCH THAT MATTERS
Flinders is recognised nationally and internationally for pioneering research in health and medicine, with 92% of our medical and health sciences research ranked at or above world standard in the Australia Research Council’s latest Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) rankings (2015).
INTEGRATED HEALTH ENVIRONMENT
Many of our courses feature clinical and professional placements as well as practical components that are taught in onsite hospitals and clinics such as Flinders Medical Centre and the Flinders Vision Clinic. You could be rubbing shoulders with doctors, nurses, midwives and allied health professionals, and working in multidisciplinary health teams.
SOUTH AUSTRALIAN HEALTH AND MEDICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE
Flinders University is one of the founding members of the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), in partnership with the Government of South Australia, the University of Adelaide and University of South Australia. SAHMRI’s flagship building is a $200 million facility located in the new health and biomedical precinct in Adelaide’s central business district.
STUDY AREAS
APPLIED GERONTOLOGY
Our postgraduate courses in applied gerontology provide you with the knowledge and skills required in social and clinical gerontology including the cultural, physical, societal, and economic conditions of older adults. The Master of Applied Gerontology articulates with the Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma and all courses are offered fully online. The course includes research, coursework, a project and a practicum and is relevant to individuals from a wide range of backgrounds including health and welfare administrators, medical practitioners, nurses and allied health professionals.

AUDIOLOGY
The Master of Audiology is a 2-year professionally oriented course that equips graduates with the knowledge and skills to evaluate and manage hearing disorders and their consequences and is fully accredited by Audiology Australia. No specific undergraduate degree is required for admission and we offer small class sizes with excellent student support and a highly successful problem-based learning tutorial approach. Extensive clinical placements throughout the course may be undertaken.

CLINICAL REHABILITATION
An ageing population requires health professionals with expertise in rehabilitation and restorative practice. Our postgraduate courses in clinical rehabilitation allow health professionals from any field to gain the knowledge and skills to progress their career in this in-demand specialisation. You can complete our Master of Clinical Rehabilitation in just 18 months or enrol in a 6-month Graduate Certificate, which articulates with our Graduate Diploma and Master of Clinical Rehabilitation if you choose to study further later on.

DISABILITY
Health care and social assistance is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the world and our graduates play an important role in advocating for and supporting people living with a disability. Online course delivery options provide you with flexible study modes to suit your needs and learning outcomes are multidisciplinary and broad, with contributions from psychology, philosophy, sociology, health, rehabilitation and special education.

HEALTH SCIENCES
The health industry is changing rapidly and becoming increasingly sophisticated, and there is an increasing demand for specialised skills. The Bachelor of Health Sciences combines health-related topics with specialised studies in one of the following five majors: Disability and Community Rehabilitation, Health Promotion, Health Management, Life Sciences, and Nutrition.

NUTRITION & DIETETICS
Our undergraduate and postgraduate nutrition and dietetics courses provide you with the expertise and skills to work as a dietitian in a range of settings and be eligible to apply for accredited practicing dietitian (ADP) status and full membership of the Dietitians Association of Australia and other bodies.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
The Master of Occupational Therapy aims to prepare you for professional practice as an occupational therapist across a range of areas including physical rehabilitation, community health, aged care and paediatrics. Our course meets the Occupational Therapy Council’s Accreditation Standards and also the requirements of the World Federation of Occupational Therapy.

PALLIATIVE CARE
Our postgraduate courses in palliative care are designed for students preparing for a professional career working with dying persons or for those already employed in the health industry who wish to enhance their skills to more effectively work with palliative patients. Flinders are leaders in the field of palliative care, establishing the first Professor of Palliative Care in the world in 1988.

Our Master of Physiotherapy prepares students for professional practice as physiotherapists.
