SALTIGA EXPEDITION

Saltiga introduced unrivalled ground breaking technology to the world, Digigear II, Magseal and Zaion Air Rotor setting the standard in high performance design and innovation. In 2014, Daiwa now take it even further with the introduction of “magsealed bearings” into the new Saltiga Expedition range. The Saltiga heralded a giant leap forward in design, revolving around magnetic fluid. Developed by NASA to magnetically deliver fuel to space ships, this revolutionary innovation was introduced to the fishing industry in the 2010 Saltiga. Mixing a liquid with iron isn’t easy, but Daiwa has mastered it in the Saltiga range. This new metallic grease/oil takes on a new effect, placed by itself it forms a typical liquid helical shape with the introduction of a magnetic force it changes shape similar to the android in Terminator II, attaching itself to any other metal to form a seal. The challenge for Daiwa was to utilise the inherent benefits of magnetic liquid in reel design. Instead of it being used to dustproof, Daiwa needed something that was waterproof. Innovative design was originally used in the rotor/anti-reverse system, combined new CRBB bearings with a magnetic oil membrane, it made water intrusion a thing of the past. Not content with just magsealing the rotor/anti-reverse system, the new Expedition series introduces an all new revolution in ultra smooth rotation and water sealing. Magsealed bearings are placed in key points in the reel to prevent water intrusion, increase rotation smoothness and increase part longevity. The new bearings are Magsealed, unlike the Magseal used in the rotor system the new bearings are a fully contained Magsealed bearing. These bearings are placed in the line roller system and the gear system so to eliminate water and salt intrusion into the gearbox and line roller system. Other introductions in the new Expedition series includes a new body design standard, with super metal super precision machine cut technology Daiwa has achieved its finest design ever. The new drag system called “UTD Hyper Tune” uses an all new carbon and metal washer system combined with a specifically designed grease that provides ultra smooth performance especially when the drag pressure exceeds 10 kilograms. This design disperses pressure to the entire lower section of the rotor, dramatically decreasing stress and flexing. Working in conjunction with the Mag Seal the Air Rotor has been hollowed out to create airflow through the whole rotor system. This prevents foreign material such as water, salt, sand and dust collecting inside the reel, the added air flow eliminates moist build up in the reel preventing corrosion issues.

CARBON TECHNOLOGY

The biggest influence on a rods performance is of course the material. At Daiwa we have pushed and refined the ‘resin to carbon’ volumes and importantly the performance of different densities of carbon being used. By increasing the volume of fibre and reducing the amount of resin we like to describe it as ‘more muscle, less fat’; the route to a finer rod.

ROD TECHNOLOGY

Normal Carbon:

Usually the carbon sheet contains a large amount of resin between the carbon fibers.

HVF Carbon:

‘High Volume Fibre’ combines lowered volumes of resin to reduce weight with an increased amount of carbon to deliver more strength.

SVF Carbon:

By reducing the amount of resin further than HVF our ‘Super Volume Fibre’ has an ultra-high density of carbon and very low level of resin. This achieves lightness and power but with flex in a slimmer blank.

X-TREME GUIDE

For superior casting, high-legged guides funnel line efficiently from the reel to a closely spaced series of low-framed, small diameter guides. These transport line out to the tip, providing better sensitivity, accuracy and hook setting power. GREATER HOOKING POWER More guides, closely spaced, lower and closer to the blank means less energy loss and greater power on hookset. GREATER SENSITIVITY Rod sensitivity is effected by the weight of the rod tip and the number of guides. The lighter the tip and the more guides, the more sensitive the rod. GREATER ACCURACY Smaller diameter, lower framed guides near the rod tip decrease twisting of the blank when casting for greater casting accuracy.

FUJI SIC K GUIDES

Tangle-Free Guides. No-weld, deep pressed, “compact” frame sits lower on casting rods yet still eliminates any area where line can “catch” on guide frame. Flared frame radius exceeds ring diameter allowing looped-line tangles to slip forward and release automatically. Slightly forward ring angle promotes fast, “selfstarting” tangle release. Works equally well for mono, fluorocarbon and super braided lines. Single foot specially designed, patent pending beveled foot adds superior stability to wrap. SILICON CARBIDE - or SiC is one of the most advanced ceramics available today. It’s the hardest and most durable in Fuji’s lineup and because of this, SiC Guides are particularly well suited for braided line. They also utilise Fuji’s Diamond Polishing and boast one of the smoothest rings around. SiC rings were also the first ever to be mounted directly to the frame, thus reducing weight, increasing heat dissipation and amplifying line sensitivity. They’ll take whatever you throw through’em!

V-JOINT

X45

On every rod the joint is an area of potential stiffness, interrupting the smooth shape of a rods curve. By applying bias carbon and V-Joint; turning the fibre direction into a diagonal position, our designers have delivered to the perfect balance between flex and strength.

X45 solves the problem of rod twist and power loss. Daiwa has developed bilateral 45O carbon fibre that is combined with 0O and 90O carbon, creating a rod construction that is highly resistant to deforming. This is X45. This resultant toughness comes into its own when a rod is bent or twisted. It increases power conversion, enhances responsiveness, strength, sharpness and feel.

The Saltist reel range has become one of Daiwa’s most popular saltwater offshore reels, now you can compliment them with our latest Saltist rod range. Whether you are jigging for snapper on the reefs, popping for Gt’s or casting from rocky headlands, the Saltist rod range has it covered. Using the latest graphite’s and specialized composites, combined with advanced design and construction techniques the Saltist rod range provides the optimum combination of strength, power, sensitivity and most importantly price. Built ultra tough these rods feature Fuji Hardloy guides, Fuji reel seats, gimbals on selected models, tough EVA grips, and a graphite butt weave for maximum power. The ST66BJS and BJB models are specifically designed to use with small metal jigs and pirate jigs for reef dwellers like snapper and small kingfish, its soft light tip action will work a jig effectively and when hooked up the strong butt section will move fish away from any structure quickly. Matched up with a small 20-30 sized overhead or 4000 reel for the perfect light tackle jig outfit. The 64CJS/CJB and 60S/B are the all-rounder rods, ideal for medium to heavy jigging, casting or even trolling. These rods are best matched with a 30-35 size overhead or 4500-6500 sized spinning reel. These models have a soft tip to work a lure easily and massive amounts of power in the butt for maximum lifting power. The boat overhead models are ideal for bottom bouncing the reefs or trolling lures for large predatory fish. Large overhead reels like Saltist Big Game and Saltist LD40/50 is the ideal reel for these rods. The spin rod range includes a 10kg and 24 kg model, these are ideal for lure spinning with a 4500 to 6500 sized spinning reel for fast powerful fish, but also make great baitfishing rods for large fish like snapper to kingfish. And if you need more power then the popper rods will do, these rods have awesome power to muscle big fish like Trevally and Tuna away from reefs and are ideally balanced with our large spinning reels. The 962H is the ideal rock-spinning model, designed for spinning large lures or casting baits from the stones with a 6500 sized spinning reel. Its soft tip will allow you cast light baits long distances and the powerful butt section will help you land that fish of a lifetime from the rocks.
