HABO SUPPLIES ONE OF A KIND PARQUET FLOORING FOR SUSTAINABLE HEADQUARTERSR

Many beautiful parquet floors are being installed every day, from simple strips to a wonderful chevron and a magnificent made to measure floor. But recently one project in particular completely stands out: the dozens of kilometres of Habo strips that are installed like the growth rings of a tree in the new headquarters of a landscape contractor.

For 50 years the Dutch landscape contractor Krinkels has been known for its construction and maintenance of public and commercial properties. For the new headquarters in Breda the Krinkels Group wanted a building that perfectly blends with nature. A stress-free environment where the well-being of the employees takes centre stage. Paul de Ruiter Architects designed a transparent, energy-efficient and durable complex where inside and outside flow into each other. The circular atrium is the beating heart of the building and is defined by a monumental ficus. Around this ficus run the year rings of a tree … as an extraordinary parquet floor.

Almost 40 kilometres of solid small strips were cut by parquet producer Habo in a ratio of 70% French oak prime and 30% teak. The majority are strips of 9x9mm, only for the smaller growth rings that needed to be able to bend a little more strips of 9x7mm were cut.

The parquet floor is installed traditionally, pinned and glued onto a mosaic subfloor. The Dutch fitter Jakko Woudenberg designed the special floor and installed it with a team of colleagues. A daring exploit that lasted six weeks twice, first the ground floor and later the stairs and first floor. The Dutch Wood Artist was rightly awarded with a Vakwerk Award in the category interior design for this fine example of craftsmanship.

All the international attention proves the uniqueness of this project. It has even appeared in several American trade magazines. This global interest is the icing on the cake for the designers, fitters and suppliers of the future-oriented headquarters.

DOMOTEX 2021 becomes DOMOTEX DIGITAL DAY

After initially being postponed to May 18-20, DOMOTEX will no longer take place as a hybrid trade show format this year. The current global infection situation in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic makes it impossible to plan and organize a physical presence on site in Hannover at the world's leading trade show

Following the renewed rise in coronavirus-related new infections on a global scale, Deutsche Messe AG has decided that DOMOTEX 2021 cannot take place as a hybrid event as planned, after initially shifting from January to May. Currently, an alternative digital business platform is planned in form of the DOMOTEX DIGITAL DAY on May 20, 2021. The focus element of this platform is a digital conference that will address current and forward-looking topics in the international flooring industry. "Trade shows like DOMOTEX, which are characterized by a very high level of internationality on both sides, amongst exhibitors as well as visitors, have a long planning period. Following the recent surge in global coronavirus cases, accompanied by lockdowns, worldwide travel warnings and restrictions and quarantine requirements, we now have had to make this decision. Unfortunately, for the first time in its 32-year history, we will not be able to organize DOMOTEX in 2021 as a physical trade show on our exhibition grounds in Hannover.
