December may be (cue the music) “the most wonderful time of the year” for some, but for others it can be the most stressful, taking its toll on health.

Pause, Sip and Regroup

As the festive season approaches, get tuned in to your body and mind and stock up on items to help bring energy, peace and presence back to the holidays.

Come holiday time, the days often feel long, but the season itself, far too short. A great way to stay mindful and in the moment is to pause, sip and savour, with the help of Flora teas. With blends like rich Cranberry with Rooibos, zesty Double Ginger, or invigorating Lemon Ginger Echinacea, there’s a tea to please and soothe every palate.

Abundance is often the name of the game come holidaytime, with frequent feasts and social gatherings galore. But if you’re feeling tired or fatigued, you may be left feeling abundantly exhausted. A contributing factor might be a lack of iron. Iron deficiency is the most prevalent nutrient deficiency worldwide Floradix® Formula the best-selling natural liquid iron supplement in North America, helps normalize low iron levels and renews energy and vitality. It’s specially formulated for easy absorption, helping boost low iron to help you put your best foot forward.

Stop the Holiday Stress When feasting, shopping and celebrating (oh my!) take centre stage, ‘normal life’ tends to simmer away on the back-burner, at risk of boiling over. When the heat is on, Flora 4-Stress may be able to help. Its blend of American Ginseng, Rhodiola, Ashwagandha, and Schisandra Berry helps manage mental and physical stress, naturally. This season, take back your holidays and stop stress before it reaches the boiling point, with the help of Flora 4-Stress.

Directions:

Heat oven to 325°F (160°C). In large bowl, whisk brown sugar, oil, molasses and egg until smooth. Separately, whisk dry ingredients. TIP: To spice things up, add 1/3 cup crystallized ginger pieces. Stir into sugar mixture.

In a large bowl, whisk to mix Beyond Greens®, protein powder, cinnamon and salt. Separately, mix almond butter with almond milk and vanilla. Combine the mixtures, stirring with a spoon until smooth.

Roll into balls (1 Tbsp each). TIP: Roll the balls in white sugar for added sparkle. Place 2 inches (5 cm) apart on parchment paperlined baking sheets, and put on top and bottom racks to bake until cookies spread out and tops crack, about 10 minutes. TIP: Switch and turn the pans after 5 minutes. Let cool 10 minutes, then transfer cookies to racks. Can be frozen for up to 1 month.

Pulse oats, cherries and pumpkin seeds in a food processor until fine. Add oat mixture to bowl and mix very well with spoon or hands. Use spoon to pack the mixture into 2 square 9x9 pans, and flatten.

five hacks FOR HEALTHY

Holiday Eating

Sluggishness, headaches, and that tell-tale bloated feeling... Sometimes our food choices can turn on us, resulting in discomfort, especially as the dust settles after a season filled with rich holiday drinks, sweet treats and seasonal extravagances. Enjoying the best of the season is great, but when the pendulum swings too far to the side of indulgence, the consequences can be uncomfortable. Thankfully, there are ways to prevent or interrupt this pattern. Here are our top five suggestions to bring your holiday eating habits back to health:

4

Don’t starve yourself

If you know you’ve got a tempting meal on the horizon and you’re thinking of skipping a meal to save on some calories ahead of time, don’t. Instead of restricting, balance out your day with healthy, light meals. This will put you at less of a risk of overeating later.

Be proactive

Poor eating habits and stress can cause gas, bloating, diarrhea, and constipation, among other discomforts. These symptoms come about from a reduction in friendly bacteria, allowing undesirable bacteria to take hold. Udo’s Choice® Probiotic formulas can help, bringing balance back to your gut.

3

It’s never too late

Just finished a big meal and feeling the tell-tale signs of gas and bloating coming on? Don’t fret. Udo’s Choice® Immediate Relief Enzyme helps reduce gas production and flatulence following a meal rich in fermentable carbohydrates (such as vegetables, pulses, legumes, beans and whole grains).

2

Do a shot that’s good for you

You heard us right! Raise a glass of bitters to your health post-meal this holiday season. This centuries-old solution promotes good digestion and liver health, and can help reduce gas and bloating, as well as stimulate digestion. Try Maria’s Swedish Bitters, a time-tested blend formulated by best-selling author Maria Treben.

5

Get off the couch

Increasing your level of activity can help to balance out the extra calories. So get bundled up and venture out for some fresh air. Your body, mind and waistline will thank you!
