One of Ireland’s most successful musical exports, Duke Special follows a highly successful Irish solo tour and a great night at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire with his first solo tour of the UK. Set in 1692, the real events of the Salem Witch Trials are woven into this evocative story of passion, jealousy, betrayal and hysteria. When the play was first produced in 1953 it was seen as a political allegory to the McCarthy ‘witch hunt’ against communist sympathisers in the USA. Sixty years on it still resonates with contemporary issues of fear, paranoia and obsessive relationships. Now a popular set-text in schools, the story and characters are still as intriguing and memorable to audiences of every age. This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Josef Weinberger Ltd.

Inspired by the fantastic response to his Best Medicine Tour, this hilarious new show examines many of life’s situations where words really don’t come easy. These include tongue-tied parents explaining the facts of life, ridiculous newspaper stories, magazine poems, adolescent chat-up lines, TV news speak and an extended selection of song lyrics that range from the lazy to the surreal. Throw in a Champion the Wonder Horse singalong, an eccentric grannie and a sausage and bean bake and you have all the ingredients for a rich and spicy comedy casserole, or as Dave would put it, ‘a sort of lexicon-carne’... sorry!

Black Box, Liverpool’s award-winning theatre company has an excellent track record for adapting and performing classic literature including productions of An Inspector Calls, Of Mice & Men and Hamlet. Believing Othello has promoted the fast-rising Cassio over himself, Iago plots to destroy both Cassio and Othello. Iago convinces the jealous Othello that his beautiful wife Desdemona is unfaithful and that Cassio is her lover. ‘The green-eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds upon’; jealousy is followed by tragedy, then retribution.
