refraction

The concept behind is to create a design illustrating the refraction force, the capacity of light to influence mood and setting as it travels through and within different spaces. Each level does convey a different feel, a feel that is appropriate to the function. At the first floor there is the hotel lobby with a very open lounge that could be used as a waiting area for the visitors but also as a recreation area for the public. At the second floor, connected with the first floor through a grand stair, there is the gallery which is also open to the public. The place is designed as a rental place for the artists who want to make their art known, considering the fact that on opposite side of the gallery there are two ballrooms that could also be connected as one big space, used for private events. The whole idea of this open gallery is for visual purpose and easy access (while at an event at the ballroom you can easily walk through gallery and admire the art collections). If the first floors are designated to accommodate the hotel guests (visitors) and also the open public, at the last floor (which is a two story open space) there is a live theater (night bar used for entertainment purpose) that is dedicated totally for the hotel visitors and membership owners. Is more of an intimate place for entertainment, music, dance, stand-ups comedy, etc. where the glamorous of the light emphasizes the whole space. The double height space, it is open and has a beautiful panoramic of the city. The openness and height of the ceiling will offer a place to create a dramatic and eye catching ceiling feature all around the space. Within one place you find recreation, art, and entertainment.

Social synapse , is designed to offer a social and mind experience for guests. The social concept behind the hotel is to completely immerse visitors into a creative and analytical thinking environment utilizing technological advancements. A major component of the hotel’s concept is to encourage business leaders to extend themselves beyond their preferences, become innovative leaders in their field and encourage an innovative culture within their firms.

The goal being to give them greater business leadership potential to dynamically grow their company, define their market, or inspire forward thinking ideas by combining technology, creativity and collaboration. The synapse permits the stream of data and information to ow through our nervous system. Social Synapse takes this anatomical concept and recognizes the linkage between our body and continually developing technology. As technological reach increases over the next 20 years, the need for augmented reality and reality within our surroundings becomes more prevalent. These relationships are blended in the form of Social Synapse. Social Synapse aims at providing the visitor with a forward thinking space with pleasant distractions. Including encouraging interaction with the art and other visitors in communal amenities. It may spark a creative idea or conversation or become a meeting space for different firms and/or markets to interact and connect. The ramp connects the spaces on each oor and acts as a neurotransmitter within the structure.

Social Synapse is designed to offer and nurture a culture of innovation within individuals and businesses so competitive advantage becomes less about ‘what’ you do and more about ‘how’ you do it. To achieve this, we focused on three categories: Innovation, Cognitive Learning, and Technological Reach in the past 10 years, present and next 20 years. Throughout the day, each floor of the building is occupied. In the morning, most visitors attend seminars and conferences in the business area, while perusing the cafe and restaurant. Visitors may also take advantage of the spa and outdoor pool area in the daytime to relax between meetings and appointments. Midday, the primary spaces used are the same as early morning with less occupancy in the guest suites and visitors entering the bar/lounge area as well. In the early evening, the theater and restaurant come alive with most visitors occupying these spaces and by late night, most visitors retreat to their guest suites or stay in the bar area.

The secluded area and mild climate are ideal for the location of Social Synapse. Big Sur is located between San Francisco and Los Angeles, far enough away but close enough to have amazing experiences in the sparsely populated area.

The design concept is to create a place that keeps the elderly of the city in the city and not isolate them into nursing homes or exile them to the suburbs far from that with which they are familiar. My desire is to engage seniors with the internal community of the building by combining interactive places with wellness places and independent living. Another major aspect of the design is making residents of the independent living feel at home and connected with the community around them.

The goal is to design a series of spaces that emphasize stronger social connections, enhance hospitality, with elements that address family members’ needs, create private spaces with resident focus services, using innovative materials, and having health improving facilities with advanced monitoring technology and programs. The peaceful mood of the overall spaces is given by earthy materials, with color inspiration from nature and keeping in mind the psychological impact of different colors.

Media and Communications course is about embracing new media design methods which are going to be examined in a wide context of developing cultural, sociological, scientific, and technological expansions. This course offers the opportunities to expand personal communication abilities to express ideas in the built environment using various methods and techniques for put across the message.

motion through space

The story explores the many realms of computer aided design and what it can provide for designers. The composition is an abstract representation of movement through space and time. The framework incorporates the fact that there is no limit to objects spatial velocity. All objects are relative to each other in the development process through time and speed. An object that moves through space creates some sort of diversion to the previous time motion and it changes relatively to the time expansion.
