Tiredness, Stress, Exhaustion‌ these are the main problems many people are facing nowadays. Yet people may not always know the right way to recover from these problems. There are two types of activities that make people tired, brain activities and body activities. Body activities would obviously make your physical body tired where you may rest by sleeping. However, when people have high brain activities, the right way to recover is actually to work out the body. This design project on the Wellington Recreation Center strives to provide the full experience for users in the Wellington Neighbourhood to recover from their exhaustion and be ready to reconnect back to the community in a better shape. To achieve that goal, different programs are included in three themes, REST, RECHARGE, and RECONNECT, to build up the full journey in this project.

Fondation Detail
Trees are an important part of nature in that it not only provides oxygen and shade for living creatures but also acts as a habitat for many different wild life species. In the various components of a tree, they each serve its own purpose contributing to the whole organism. The roots draw in water and nutrients from the soil. The trunk acts as the structure and holds up all that is above it. The branches spread out allowing the foliage to give shelter below. Nonetheless, the characteristics of spaces carved by these components provide totally different experience for the users. As designed in this project, the lower stories which are under the tree shades and have open spaces are programed for more communal activities while the upper floors provide a sense of enclosure and privateness with the varying programs in this community center. Also, the concept of tree came from the developing linear park and the neighbouring Clarence Park near the site. By creating a linkage, this building strives to be part of the Evolving pedestrian orientated community.

HILLSIDE CHAPEL |WINTER 2013 |RHINOCEROS, VRAY, PHOTOSHOP, ILLUSTRATOR | Located in the downtown of the city of Toronto, the challenge of designing Hillside Chapel was to create a meditative experience in the highly dense urban setting for both the general public and more importantly the monks. The water reflection created by the reflection pond was used to highlight the underground ceiling. The control of light in the building was significant to the overall pensive atmosphere in the project. The areas are divided into public and private. It is important to designate areas for the monks only to eliminate various distractions. However, the site also needs to encourage public access for the retail of art work created by the monks.

CABIN IN THE WOODS |FALL 2012 |RHINOCEROS, VRAY, PHOTOSHOP, ILLUSTRATOR | Cabin in the woods is a cottage design that can allow up to 6 users. The form of the cabin is highly influenced by the wind and sunlight at site. Due to the very windy site, the back of the building is designed lessen wind impacts, also the south side of the building is designed to have large glazing for maximum sunlight allow-ance. The material used in this project was mainly local, with the intensive use of timber, the building is designed to blend in with the surroundings.

LIVE WORK PLAY| WINTER 2013 |HAND DRAFTING, RHINOCEROS,PHOTOSHOP|
Located in the very interesting Kensington neighbourhood, the project requires a ground retail area for a bike shop with a residential flat on top for a three person’s family. The site is very narrow, along with the very restricted zoning restrictions, all spaces were carefully considerateD. Live, work and play and the relationship between the different functioned areas are focused and investigated.

TWO WALL PROJECT |FALL 2011 |HAND-MADE MODEL| The two wall project required was a porject to improve the exsisting park area on campus that was underused. Model making was the sole media for communicating our project. Circulation patterns of the park were investigated. The design intent was to create a more dynamic space with the “peel off strip from one of the buildings surrounding the area. The Walls also provides seating and and some shelter for the areas.
