Birthdays in the Miniature Garden Go Beyond Plants
In honor of my grandchild’s upcoming birthday, my blog is going to be dedicated to this special event. I have experienced many birthdays during my lifetime and I still find this celebration of life an exciting day. Why not plant a fairy garden to symbolize the birthday of someone special to you?
Think how much fun it would be to design a miniature garden using a birthday theme! Wouldn’t a container garden with an art decor lawn table, surrounded by matching chairs, look ideal placed among greenery that was planted in a willow basket? A small piece of gingham fabric, cut into a three-inch square and hemmed with tiny stitches becomes a covering for the table. This table top is now ready for the resin birthday cake, with scrolls of pink frosting bordering the edges and colorful flowers decorating the top. Mini white cups with saucers are waiting for the adults to pick up and gently sip a freshly brewed cup of coffee.
Although, if little ones are going to enjoy this birthday party, then a couple of glasses and a pitcher for milk might be a better choice. Toss a pillow, printed with fairy sayings, onto the seat of each chair for additional color and sentiments. Let us not forget a bouquet of red, yellow, and blue balloons. Wrap tiny wooden cubes with paper and tie them in a bow give the illusion of birthday gifts. Balloons, cake, and gifts are decorating this willow basket, so it can only mean one thing...let the festivities begin!
Ways to decorate around a birthday theme are endless. Not all miniature gardening accessories need to be used with plants. What if the container is not a willow basket, but a 9 x 13-inch cake baked in your own oven? Think of all the possibilities of using mini accessories as a decoration for a cake.
Begin by frosting the cake. Start with a grass-decorating tip on your icing bag and on top of the cake pipe green frosting that resembles fresh, green grass. Decorate with colorful "frosting" plants by piping flowers along the edge of the cake. Add the final touches by placing the birthday party mini items among the blades of grass. Select a kit of miniature items to make decorating the cake quick and easy. There is one more special touch that needs to be considered. This birthday party needs guests.
Whom should we invite? The Flower Fairies designed by Cicely Mary Barker would love to celebrate a birthday. Leaving their fairy cottages and bringing gifts of flowers to the party are Iris, Tulip, Windflower, and Zinnia. Aren’t birthdays grand?
