Type In Context
The summer of 2015 something happened to weston-super-mare. It went downhill. Some artist opened the saddest place on earth. This place is Dismaland, Bemusment Park. “a sinister twist on Disneyland” open for 36 days. The “family theme park unsutible for children” was one of the biggest art exhibitions in the UK, attracting visitors from overseas as well as around the UK. This book has pictures taken by visitors in the exhibtion, as well as different handouts and art pieces from around the exhibition. The focus is on the typeography, in which the exhibition was rich, some letters you will need to search for, but isnt that the fun?

Due to the demand to get into the exhibition it was not possible to get more images, so taking to social media, photographers where found who did. These are the photographers that gave work. There are also handouts from the exhibition in this book, so the artists who created them are listed. This book celebrates the art of Dismaland. Althought it is one of the UK’s biggest exhibitions this year, it was also the most depressing. The idea of creating an exhibition to depress the public is an odd concept. With the economic climate and the depressing lives that some of us already lead. Even though this is true, thousands stood on the beach of Weston-Super-Mare to get a glimpse of the high quality work. Within the exhibiton it was simple to see the twisted beauty and concept that could come from this depression. This book is made to express that dismal beauty in a beautiful way.
