HOME OF GOOD TASTE Fine wine and contemporary art find the perfect home in this stylish apartment designed for the owner of a private sommelier service WORDS KATE BURNETT PHOTOGRAPHY ARNAUD RINUCCINI

B

ertrand Faure Beaulieu is a man who understands the importance of personal service, whether it is in the design and decoration of his home or in the founding of his new business, Sarment, a private sommelier service. Faure Beaulieu and Michelin-starred head sommelier Philippe Messy launched Sarment in June to offer a small group of clients a personalized fine-wine experience. Faure Beaulieu often uses his Paris apartment for dinners designed to showcase the company’s wine expertise and the flat has been designed to be both a comfortable private home and a space for entertaining clients. Faure Beaulieu commissioned Parisian designers Atelier FB, led by Florian Bochard, to design the interior, which is also a showcase for a collection of contemporary art. His close working relationship with architect, interior designer and art buyer reflects the very personalized but understated service that forms the heart of the business he offers. Faure Beaulieu aims to get to know his clients very well, to understand their taste and help develop it through

the wines he recommends. The flat is not intended to be a checklist of early 21st century interior design — although many of the pieces come from well known designers and manufacturers, such as La Murrina, Flos and Artemide lighting, furniture from Arketipo, Knoll and Poltrona Frau and rugs from Tai Ping. The lighting in the apartment has been designed for flexibility to accommodate an ever-changing array of art pieces. Rooms are also entirely given over to art, such as the ‘white cube objets d’art room’, which forms a mini gallery for floorstanding and wall-hung pieces. The kitchen provides a practical and well equipped backdrop for Sarment’s regular entertaining. The kitchen is by Schiffini, the appliances are from SubZero and Gaggenau and there is a Franke sink with Dornbracht taps. The floor picks up the blue of the living room furniture to inject energy into the room. A visit to Faure Beaulieu’s apartment is a total sensory experience — the beautiful space and the art within form a dramatic backdrop to the food and, most importantly, the wine.
