Florida breeders are by nature optimistic and resilient, hoping this Florida-bred crop is the one that produces the next Florida-bred champion. From Needles to World Approval, there are plenty of role models in the 52 Florida-breds that have become national champions. Then there are the 29 Florida-bred who became Breeders’ Cup champions, including overachiever Golden Pal. The latter is to date the only Florida-bred to win not one, but two Breeders’ Cup races: 2020 BC Juvenile Turf Sprint (G2) and 2021 BC Turf Sprint (G1).

Or maybe a 2021 Florida-bred foal will grow up to become the seventh Florida-bred to win the Kentucky Derby (G1); the eighth to win the Preakness Stakes (G1); or the seventh to win the Belmont Stakes (G1). And perhaps there’s even the second Florida-bred to win the Triple Crown, joining Affirmed (1978), among the 2021 crop.

Here’s a look at the Top 5 leading Florida breeders by 2021 Florida-bred foals registered with the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association.
