Better yet, the Keys are incredibly pet friendly and the perfect place to live with your 4legged friend.

Our furry family members can take full advantage of the same adventures as their owners from paddle boarding and fishing to restaurants and attractions, we have something for everyone.

BOAT DOGS

Most dogs enjoy the water, they are instinctive swimmers. We know nothing beats a warm summer day out on a boat with the companionship of your dog. However, safety is important on a boat and it is especially important if you take your dog along with you.

Make sure you take it slow and introduce your dog to the boat as soon as possible and make it a positive experience, think lots of treats!

Invest in a canine life jacket, you can find them in most boating stores, pet shops, or on Amazon. Make sure you bring plenty of water for your pet and a bowl for them to drink out of and discourage them from drinking sea water. Lastly, just like us some dogs need sunscreen for protection from harmful rays.

PADDLE BOARDING

Paddle Boarding and Kayaking are great ways to explore the mangroves, creeks, and shallow waters. Along the way, you may spot some incredible marine life. Test it out by visiting Florida Bay Outfitters in Key Largo where you can rent a board or kayak.

01 - Theater of the Sea

Theater of the Sea in Islamorada, FL, offers a variety of animal interaction programs for various ages and prices. COMMUNITY PARKS AND DOG PARKS

The natural beauty the Keys has to offer is not just enjoyed by people but their pets as well. From state and county parks there is a wide array of leashed and off leash options.

Founder's Park Dog Park in Islamorada, FL, is a one acre fenced park where Fido can run leash free and socialize with other furry buddies. The dog area features a seating area, doggy wash and watering station, and agility equipment.

Leashed dogs are welcome in other areas of the park except for the beach and picnic areas.

Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock

Botanical State Park is a dog friendly outdoor recreation area in Key Largo. Leashed dogs are welcome to join you in the picnic areas, along the sea wall, and on the bike and hiking trails. There is a self guided nature trail which includes a native plant butterfly garden. With a permit from the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park Ranger Station, you can continue the adventure on 6 miles of backcountry trails.

Rowell's Waterfront Park is a dog friendly park located in Key Largo, FL. This park has benches, picnic tables and a kayak launch. Fido is welcome to enjoy the views of Florida Bay, but dogs must be kept on a leash.

John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, Key Largo The first underwater park in the US, does not allow dogs on the beach, however you can hike along the many trails and enjoy picnics in the mangroves.

Harry Harris Park is pet friendly. Wander the park trails with your leashed pup and enjoy a picnic together at the tables. Dogs are not allowed on the beach and must be leashed.

Old Settlers Park at MM 92 Overseas Highway is a piece of historic Tavernier. Nature surrounds you at this restful little park. The trail leads you through the tropical hammock. Leashed dogs are welcome on the trail.

Leaving your beloved companion home while you’re at work or travelling is hard enough; finding a trustworthy pet sitter shouldn’t be.

- Start Online, the internet is a great place to start. Reading online reviews and even checking out candidates’ Facebook pages can help narrow down your search

- First Hand Recommendations, ask friends, relatives and neighbors for referrals.

- Interview, don’t be afraid to have a long conversation; you can get a good sense of someone’s personality and character that way.

- Set up a Meet and Greet, before you book a pet-sitting date, you and your pets should meet the candidate. You may even want to ask a candidate to do a trial walk to see how they handle your dog.

MarrVelous Pet Rescues & Adoptions was officially formed in April 2007, by Joy Martin, then Broker/Owner of Marr Properties and American Caribbean Real Estate. The pet rescue up until 2021 was housed in our Key Largo office location and operated at the office until the rescue was able to secure their own home!
