“It’s hard to choose a favorite highlight from our wedding, but our vows were really important. I really wanted to keep the ceremony about our commitment to one another and God. We wrote our own vows, and the words we exchanged are something we will cherish forever. As well as leaving in a helicopter! That was also a highlight! 18

october 2021 | wellington the magazine

Newlyweds Sara and James “J.C.” Solomon became engaged at the Wanderers Club in Wellington —the same place where they later held their wedding. “We were having Easter brunch with both of our families at the club, and we went down to the putting green before brunch while waiting for our table, and J.C. putted a ball into a hole,” Sara recalled. “When I went to grab it, the ring was in the hole! He’s a big golfer, so it was fitting for us.” Their story, however, began one day at work. “I was a stenographer, and he was an attorney working on the case,” she said, adding that she knew he was the one right at their first date. “I vividly remember thinking, ‘I’m having dinner with my husband,’” she said. J.C. knew after Sara met his family. “My mom came downstairs the morning after she met her and said, ‘Oh my gosh. I love her.’ My mom never really said she liked anyone I dated!” he explained. The ceremony was held on Feb. 29, 2020, in the Wanderers Club ballroom, followed by a tented reception on the driving range. Sara wore a wedding dress designed by Galia Lahav Couture and was attended by her sister, Stephanie Czajkowski, as maid of honor. T.J. Solomon served as best man. The wedding was photographed by Mary McCarty with video from Starfish Studios. “For our first dance, our band did a special rendition of both our parents’ first dance songs — ‘Just the Way You Are’ by Billy Joel and ‘Have I Told You Lately’ by Rod Stewart. It was so special!” Sara said

The day was filled with special details, among them the handkerchief Sara carried. “It was given to me by J.C.’s nonna (his grandmother), and it was from his great-nonna,” she said. “It’s white and has a blue trim, so that was my something blue. It dried many happy tears that day.” Nonna also provided the wedding favors. “JC’s 92-year-old grandmother homemade 400 of her Italian love knot cookies for our guests all by hand, all by herself, and we individually packaged them with a ‘momma’s cookie’ sticker. I’ll never forget how excited she was when she saw them all wrapped up nicely with her ‘name’ on them.” Sara also loved the wedding photos of each of their parents, grandparents and great-grandparents at the lounge by the bar. “We have an amazing history of marriage in both of our families, and we really wanted to honor the lineage of people who have taught us what a successful marriage looks like,” she said. Sara surprised everyone in attendance by singing “Living on Love” by Alan Jackson to thank her parents as they danced. “It was one of the songs my dad used to have me sing as a kid. The song was also so fitting for the evening,” she said. The day ended, however, with just the bride and groom. “We had the room cleared out at the end of the night, and J.C. and I had one final dance alone before we left,” Sara said. “I’ll never forget those moments, just him and I, fully soaking in the beauty that was around us.”

“Our day was filled with special touches. We had a close friend of ours play the guitar while I walked down the aisle. The most memorable part of our wedding was the exchanging of our vows. We wrote our own, and it was a really special and intimate moment. I feel so blessed that we got to enjoy our fairytale wedding!”

The wedding story of Christie and Kyle Finch began on the dance floor at a local bar and culminated at a beautiful celebration held at the picturesque International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington. Christie and Kyle met through a mutual friend at a local bar. “I knew he was the one after our first kiss on the dance floor,” Christie recalled. The happy couple became engaged while celebrating another milestone together. Kyle proposed to Christie in front of their family and friends at his own birthday celebration. “We all sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to him, and when he blew out the candles on the cake, everyone asked what he wished for,” Christie explained. “He then he got down on one knee. I was caught totally off guard.” The ceremony and reception were both held at the International Polo Club Palm Beach, with its many scenic, equestrian-themed sites, and a staff used to making sure that all the details come across with impeccable precision. Aside from being the premier polo destination in the world, the 250-acre International Polo Club Palm Beach is known locally as a popular wedding venue. The IPC team is highly skilled at putting together these picture-perfect special events, creating new ways to make them exciting, fun and memorable. That was certainly the case with Christie and Kyle. The bride wore a lovely dress she purchased from Bacio Bacio Bridal Salon in Wellington, just one of the many local vendors that

helped Christie and Kyle create a day to remember for a lifetime. As she walked down the aisle on June 9, 2018, Christie was attended to by her sister Lauren Warren. Kyle’s close friend Brandon Cox served as his best man. To make sure they would remember this special day forever, photography and videography were provided by the Camera Wedding. They enjoyed their first dance as husband and wife to the popular wedding song “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran. It was a day filled with special touches, and none more so than when Christie was making her way down the aisle to meet Kyle at the other end. “We had a close friend of ours play the guitar while I walked down the aisle,” she recalled. Although the entire day was special, some magical moments stood out. “The most memorable part of our wedding was the exchanging of our vows. We wrote our own, and it was a really special and intimate moment,” Christie shared. “I feel so blessed that we got to enjoy our fairytale wedding!” That is, of course, the goal of any wedding, and at the International Polo Club Palm Beach, the expert team was able to help Christie and Kyle turn their dreams into reality, making sure that their love shined through during this very memorable day. After a wonderful reception, the couple headed to a relaxing Caribbean honeymoon at the all-inclusive Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.

“ God was so amazing to bring Javier at the right moment and during the hardest time of my life. My daughter, my sister, my mom and I contracted Covid-19 early this year. Javi was next to me all this time. He was living in Naples and used to drive back and forth. Even though we developed our relationship in such a short time, we always knew that we were meant for each other.”

Veronica and Javier Munoz were married on Sept. 3, 2021, but their story dates back more than 15 years. “We met in 2005 at my place of work, a bank in Palm Beach Gardens. Veronica was my client. While assisting her, I also learned that she was from the same town in Peru that I was from and that she also worked in home financing,” Javier recalled. “Throughout the years, we got to know and trust each other with mutual business clients. Life took its turns, and shortly thereafter I moved to Naples for a job promotion. Despite the distance and time, we remained in touch.” They reconnected more recently, this time as friends, not business acquaintances. Veronica particularly recalled a trip to the South Florida Fairgrounds. “We had such a wonderful time with our two daughters (one from each) watching a laser show,” she said. “Then we came back home and talked and talked for hours until dawn! We had so much fun and discovered that we had so many things in common.” They became engaged during a June trip to New York. “We had planned a family vacation that began in Niagara Falls,” Javier said. “The trip was so exciting, and it was also the first time that we’d be spending so much time together, so we were actually a bit nervous. Our daughters, Adriana and Isabella, helped us plan it, select the engagement ring and lay out the whole event. Once we reached the top floor of the Empire State Building, the girls pulled out a large sign I had brought with me, which read, ‘Veronica, will you marry me?’ She

said yes, and everyone around us started to clap!” The ceremony and reception were held at the Wellington National Golf Club with photography and video by Matt Story. Veronica’s cousin Maritza Arbocco served as maid of honor, while Javier’s son Christian was the best man. “We planned our wedding in just a month and a week with help from our loved ones and the awesome staff at Wellington National,” Veronica said. “We had friends and family who came from different places and abroad, and even though we had a reduced number of guests due to the current situation, we had such a special wedding day and truly danced the night away!” Veronica wore a dress she had found and saved to one day wear at her wedding. “I immediately fell in love with my dress when I saw it,” she said. “I actually bought it three years ago and knew then that this was the dress I would be wearing the day of my wedding.” They danced to the Blue Danube Waltz, as well as a mix of “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran and “Dios Asi Lo Quiso” by Juan Luis Guerra. Wonderful memories from the day include arriving in style in a 1957 Rolls Royce and enjoying a fun conga line on the dance floor. “But most memorably, Javi surprised me by taking me to dance the national dance from Peru, called Marinera — a couple’s dance with handkerchiefs, hats and colorful costumes,” Veronica recalled. Next up will be a delayed honeymoon. The couple hopes to visit Italy next year.

“While the reception was still in high gear, and the guests were dancing, we took a moment to step back and take in the moment. Seeing all the people who had flown or drove into town during the pandemic to be there for our special day and share in our love and joy was so emotional and almost overwhelming To this day, we get a little misty thinking about.

Rachelle Cucca and Casey Williams were married on June 20, 2020, with a ceremony and reception at The Ben, Autograph Collection in West Palm Beach. It was the culmination of a long courtship that began in high school. “We met at a mutual friend’s house at a party in high school,” Rachelle recalled. “Although we flirted that night, we didn’t start dating until months later.” Now years later, Rachelle couldn’t say exactly when she knew they would get married. “We never had an ‘ah-ha’ moment or some epiphany,” she said. “After three years of loving each other, we realized we were meant to be together forever.” A romantic evening on the Intracoastal Waterway provided the backdrop for Casey’s proposal. Rachelle had always told Casey she wanted her family there whenever he proposed. To keep it a secret, she was invited to Bricktops, now the River House, under the guise of an anniversary party for Casey’s parents. Casey asked Rachelle to take a walk on the dock while they waited for guests. Right there on the dock by the Intracoastal, he got down on one knee and proposed. She was surprised, cried and said, “Yes!” — not knowing that both families were inside watching from the window. A beautiful surprise celebration followed. At the wedding ceremony, the bride wore a lovely dress by Justin Alexander Signature. Rachelle’s sister Jacquelyn Cucca was her maid of honor. Casey’s childhood friend Korey Klimezky was his best man. Still images and videog-

raphy were done by Jack Bates Photography. They enjoyed their first dance to “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran. It was a ceremony and reception filled with person touches. For example, the bride did not wear white, but her bridesmaids did. She also chose to walk down the aisle alone. Not wanting to miss any of their time with their guests, the bride and groom chose to take their photos — including bridal party and family — before the ceremony, so they could enjoy the cocktail hour on the rooftop of The Ben and its exquisite, panoramic views of downtown West Palm Beach, Palm Beach and the Atlantic Ocean. “While the reception was still in high gear and the guests were dancing, we took a moment to step back and take in the moment,” Rachelle said. “Seeing all the people who had flown or drove into town during the pandemic to be there for our special day and share in our love and joy was so emotional and almost overwhelming. To this day we get a little misty thinking about.” Near the end of the reception, Rachelle changed into her mother’s wedding dress from her second marriage, and she and the groom danced to her wedding song. It was especially touching because her mother lost her husband seven years earlier. The happy couple have yet to go on a honeymoon, but perhaps in the future. “We boarded a plane the next morning after our wedding and reported to work for new jobs Monday morning,” Rachelle said.

Patricia Miele

International Polo Club Palm Beach The center of the polo world each winter, the beautiful grounds of the International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington are also available to host special events, such as picturesque weddings. As the director of catering at the IPC, Patricia Miele and her team aim to make any event extraordinary, for any occasion, size or theme, including full bridal packages. The expert staff ensures a successful and stress-free event. The IPC team is highly skilled at putting together many different events, including weddings, and creating new ways to make them exciting, fun and memorable. Over the past two years, the team at IPC have become experts at creating weddings that take into account the latest safety precautions. “We go out of our way to ensure what has become the ‘new normal’ doesn’t make the event feel too different from past wedding experiences,” Miele said. “Since IPC hosted a full season of safe events during the pandemic, we are prepared to implement those types of things for any event or couple that wishes to.” IPC offers extensive menu options that include exceptional desserts, a customized bar service, as well as stunning florals to create an enchanting ambiance. The talented teams of artists design original events within a budget and timeline that works for clients. The venue offers a unique setting, between polo matches being played in the background, to the beautiful lush-landscaped grounds, to brides being brought to the venue in horse and carriage. Long popular with equestrians, the venue is ready to add some extra horsey flair for couples who want it, such as full-size horse figures made out of greenery that have proved quite popular. The site offers a wide array of locations for a ceremony and reception. Among them are the Veuve Clicquot Pavilion with its indoor space and covered outdoor patio, the polo field, the pool patio, the 7th Chukker and the Mallet Grille. Depending upon the size of your event, the staff can recommend the perfect location. For example, the pavilion with its sunset terrace can fit up to 400 seated guests. The Mallet patio or poolside is ideal for more intimate events. This space can fit 100 seated guests or 150 for a cocktail-style event. The 7th Chukker and Championship Terrace can accommodate 50 seated guests or 100 for a cocktail-style event. When it comes to the menu, IPC offers custom creations for all palates. Some current trends are casual meals, farm to table, nostalgia foods and dessert tables. A fancy plated meal is typical for a wedding reception. “We believe it is one of the best days of your life and should be all about having the time of your life,” Miele said.

The International Polo Club works to make sure that the love shines through during a bride and groom’s memorable day. “Clients trust us for our meticulous planning, management and execution of successful special events. Events, regardless of the size, require experienced hands for both the creative and practical details. Creating a seamless and memorable event that aligns with your goals and reflects your personality is what we do,” Miele said. “The International Polo Club is closely monitoring all guidelines to ensure that we are continuously providing a safe environment for our clients and their guests.” Miele has seen many creative adaptations added to weddings, some that may even continue well beyond the pandemic. “Weddings are now adding the virtual element to allow guests who are unable to attend to watch the ceremony and reception from afar,” she said. “These virtual weddings have become more popular and have added a personal touch when some guests cannot attend.” The goal is to allow the happy couple to enjoy the celebration while IPC takes care of all the details. “Couples and their guests are more eager than ever to celebrate love — and one of life’s biggest moments — together, especially after long periods of isolation,” Miele said. “The International Polo Club is looking forward to being a part of their big day as they say ‘I do’ to their new life together as a married couple.” The International Polo Club Palm Beach is located at 3667 120th Avenue South in Wellington. The Wanderers Club The Wanderers Club, located in the heart of Wellington, is a unique wedding venue with so much to offer. From the beautiful terrace overlooking lush tropical landscaping to the elegant ballroom, the Wanderers Club is an ideal location for special celebrations. Director of Catering Whitney Garcia works very closely with couples from their very first tour of the venue to the last dance of the night. Now in her second decade helping a bride’s dream turn into a reality, Garcia said this is her true passion. “We are able to customize each couple’s experience while maintaining flexibility in each stage of the planning,” Garcia said. “The unique thing about the Wanderers Club is the vast property with countless areas available to our brides on their special day.” The focal point is the recently renovated ballroom with its new design, which is light and fresh with just the perfect blend of modern and elegant. It truly takes your breath away. Although the traditional plated dinner is always a popular choice for wedding receptions, the Wanderers Club offers many options. “We offer some of the most fun and creative food ideas, and together we can customize the food experience like no other,” Garcia said. “The Wanderers Club is ideal for any event. We offer large and small packages for bar/bat mitzvahs to sweet sixteens to corporate events.” Garcia is there to help brides and grooms navigate the current terrain in party planning while still offering a wonderful wedding experience. One of the biggest changes brought by the pandemic has been opening up more outside space for weddings. “We have a beautiful, covered terrace that allows couples to host their wedding outside,” Garcia said. “We also have a large pool deck to host the cocktail reception, rehearsal dinner, ceremony or any type of event. Our outside space is so elegant and welcoming in the evening and makes guests a little more at ease during these unique times. During the wedding, we have increased staff to help reduce some of the guest interaction. For example, more cocktail servers mean less guests mingling at the bar.” Some weddings have lowered their guest count, which allows them more room in the budget for fun elements, such as welcome cocktails, late night snacks, coffee bars and more. “We also have some couples deciding to change their reception menu from stations to plated dinners,” Garcia said. “No matter what the couple decides, we are doing our best to work with each one in creating the wedding of their dreams in a safe environment.”

Yet one thing that truly has stayed the same is the affection and care that goes into every wedding at the Wanderers Club. “The love and excitement that a wedding brings will always be the same,” Garcia said. “Couples are happy to be joining their lives together with their closest family and friends. It may not look like they originally envisioned, but they are still in love and ready to begin their lives together.” With creativity, weddings today can overcome any obstacles and continue to shine. “My hope is that couples will continue to dream big when it comes to their special day,” Garcia said. “It is one of the most special days of their lives and, although it may look a little different, it will still be full of love. I hope lots of fun, new ideas will come out of this challenging time.” Whether your idea of a dream wedding is an elegant ballroom affair or a casual reception on the pool deck, the Wanderers Club has everything to make that dream a reality. From your first meeting with the staff to the last dance of the night, the club’s experts will be there to help you plan the perfect celebration that meets your needs, tastes and dreams. At the Wanderers Club, the overall goal is always a beautiful, fun and memorable event that even the client can sit back and enjoy. The Wanderers Club is located at 1900 Aero Club Drive in Wellington. For more info., call (561) 795-3501 or visit www.wc.coth. com.

Wellington National Golf Club At the Wellington National Golf Club, the professional staff enjoys helping clients achieve their vision, and that includes creating unique menus, proposals and assisting with making arrangements on the client’s behalf, such as hiring entertainment and arranging for rentals. They make sure that all last-minute details, including the coordination of timelines, floor plans and staffing, are complete in order to execute the event exactly the way the client has envisioned it. The main point of contact for those planning a wedding at Wellington National is Kara Martin. Born and raised in Wellington, she has a degree in hospitality management from Florida State University. “My background is in event sales, where I focused on weddings and large community events, in both Tallahassee and Wellington,” Martin said. “I’ve worked in many different branches of event planning, from small, family-owned catering companies, all the way to full corporate wedding planning.” Wellington National has many great characteristics for all types of events, including weddings, bridal showers, rehearsal dinners and more. It is a large venue that in normal times can accommodate up to 300 guests. The ballroom has beautiful ceiling draping, as well as plank-style flooring, in addition to picturesque natural light, as it opens up onto a beautiful piazza, which is tropically landscaped and perfect for an outdoor ceremony. “We have adapted to the new normal of large events, which includes limiting the seats at a table to 10 or less. Here, we’ve also adopted a new thing. We ask the bride and groom to group families together at tables, so we have tightknit groups who know each other rather than seating strangers together,” General Manager Ted Strelec said. The team at Wellington National aims to be flexible with couples who choose to plan an event with them to create a special day, unique to the bride and groom. They are happy to customize menus and cocktails, and encourage them to outline their vision for that perfect day — then the team makes that vision come to fruition. “Another new change that came from the pandemic is that we no longer offer walk-up, self-serve buffet service,” Strelec said. “In lieu of self-serve buffets, we have created manned action stations where our food and beverage team members serve the guests in a common area to eliminate contamination. This is the new normal for us.” Wellington National’s clubhouse and surrounding areas are perfect for enjoying special events. “We have vast courtyard areas

for open-air requests, and our grand ballroom is large enough to responsibly social-distance the tables while hosting an indoor wedding with space for a dance floor,” Strelec said. “It’s large enough to where we can put a party of 50 in there, set up the ceremony and have room for the DJ and the dance floor — all under one roof. We have a wall that divides the room, so we can close that wall for an intimate feeling during the ceremony, and then, while the guests turn out to do cocktails, we open the wall and convert to an open space.” Not only is Wellington National a beautiful venue, the team is there to make things as easy and stress-free as possible, priding themselves on being flexible with almost every detail to ensure that each couple gets the day for which they have been waiting their whole lives. This includes current adaptations such as Zoom or FaceTime broadcasts that allow family members who are not present to see the event live. “It has been a great addition for elderly family members or people in different countries to attend via technology,” Strelec said. Strelec hopes that people who want to get married will find a way to have their special day regardless of what is going on in the world around them. “That is what we humans do best — adapt!” he said. The Wellington National Golf Club is located at 400 Binks Forest Drive in Wellington. For more information, call (561) 333-5731 or visit www.wellingtonnationalgolfclub.com.

Wellington Community Center The Wellington Community Center, which was completely rebuilt in 2016, has become a popular event space for weddings and so much more. Debbie Liquori is the facility’s longtime administrative coordinator. “For more than 15 years, I have helped guide members of our community through the room reservation and event planning process at our center,” she said. “The community center allows us the space and flexibility to host events of all types and sizes, everything from weddings to birthday parties, quinceañeras, bar and bat mitzvahs, small or large business functions, and more. If you can dream it, our team can help you do it.” Liquori loves meeting with new clients and helping them work out the details of their special event. “From that very first meeting, through the planning process, to the final dance of the evening, watching someone’s vision come together into a beautifully memorable experience is the most enjoyable part of my job,” she said. “It is a wonderful feeling to be able to come to work, truly love what you do, and help people plan for some of their most important life events. I am now helping clients who held their daughter’s sweet sixteen at our center plan for her wedding. Getting to be a part of her story, and watch it come full circle, is incredibly rewarding.” The Wellington Community Center is a unique venue for a wedding location. Situated in the heart of the village and overlooking Lake Wellington, the facility offers a scenic backdrop for events of all kinds. “Our newly constructed, paved Wellington Promenade along the waterfront provides an ideal space for wedding ceremonies, cocktail receptions and evening functions,” Liquori said. “Lighted columns and fountains further accent the natural scenery and graceful elegance of the site. Whether hosting an outdoor ceremony on the patio, or an event in the upstairs ballroom, guests will enjoy magnificent western sunsets, setting the stage for stunning event photos.” The versatile Wellington Promenade is also a useful feature for couples looking for a more outdoor-friendly event with plenty of space for social distancing. Liquori enjoys working with couples to customize their celebrations while keeping it as stress-free as possible. “Many have a specific budget in mind, and I work with them to fulfill their goals,” she said. “Thankfully, our center affords a great deal of flexibility for events and budgets of all sizes. We can host large events, up to 225 guests, in our Grande Ballroom overlooking the lake, or smaller events with up to 150 guests in our

ground level Lake View Room. All rentals include banquet tables and chairs, and multiple layout options for setup. The center also boasts a full catering kitchen with commercial ovens and refrigeration, and additional amenities such as a green room, portable stage and portable dance floor.” Whatever additional items a couple may need, Liquori has a list of vendors that are ready to help, such as a DJ, a florist or a photographer. She has seen that weddings nowadays are focusing on the simple. “People are planning simpler weddings. While there are definitely more elaborate weddings and celebrations, I find most trend toward simple and intimate,” Liquori said. “This is a very affordable facility that I think fits the needs of many people.” She invites anyone planning a wedding or other special event to come tour the facility and learn more. “The Wellington Community Center is very affordable, with beautiful scenery and amenities to suit the needs of all people,” Liquori said. “Our team takes pride in providing a positive experience for all of our guests and events. From booking to setup, and throughout every step of the planning process, we will help you see your dreams through to fruition. Repeat business is the highest compliment, and now that we have even more to offer, it keeps our customers coming back.” The Wellington Community Center is located at 12150 W. Forest Hill Blvd. in Wellington. For more information, call (561) 7532484 or visit www.wellingtonfl.gov.

&TRENDS

Traditions Although the institution of marriage is a tradition all in itself, the tradition of how things are done has exploded with creativity over the last few decades. After generations of the same ole, same ole “here comes the bride” many couples opt for their first love song, or a moment in time captured lyrically. Either way you put it together, each couple must make this their very own special day. In recent years, weddings have become a production. Thanks to the explosion of social media outlets like Pinterest, Etsy and other favorites, people are all out on the big day. The resourcefulness is boundless, and no idea can be shut down. But there is a thoughtfulness behind it. Even in the most imaginative of weddings, you will find a hint every now and then of something that symbolizes the bride and groom’s connection to family and the past, affording the reality that a touch of tradition remains a wedding mainstay. This year’s “Traditions & Trends” offers fresh ideas from new wedding cake designs and flavors to how to keep your guests safe — and everything in between. These ideas are meant to help couples searching for a way to spin traditions into moments that they will cherish for a lifetime, and possibly start a new trend that others will come to appreciate. It is your day! Make it as simple or extravagant as your heart desires. Be brave, be bold and set the tone for what your relationship will look like, not only on your wedding day but through the course of building your life together. 40

Unique Wedding Cakes

Whimsical Seating Chart

Although the traditional wedding cake will never go out of style, many couples are sweetening the batter with very unique wedding cakes. This includes everything from favorite sports themes to bird seed sprinkles for exotic bird lovers. Perhaps you aren’t a fan of the same old cake, or just obsessed with a specific dessert, your wedding dessert is the perfect opportunity to showcase your taste with your family and friends.

The days of paper guest cards are long gone — and the imagination of brides (and their wedding planners) has grown tenfold. Typically, the very first thing your guests do when they arrive is to figure out where they are sitting. Your seating chart will set the stage for what is to come. Don’t be afraid of something a bit different. Incorporate your colors and elements with a bit of the whimsical.

Ceremony Arch Art

Snap & Share

Tented Garden

The importance of having the perfect wedding arch is paramount, as it frames the most magical moment in your life, where you take your vows, say your “I dos” and become husband and wife. But the old-fashioned trellis has been replaced by exquisite masterpieces. Whether indoor or outdoor venues, a custom arbor is a great way to blend your ceremony with the other parts of your wedding décor.

While nothing will replace your professional photographer, some of the most magical and candid shots are often caught by your guests. Get everyone on board early! Include your hashtag on the invitation, wedding web site, and, of course, a beautifully displayed sign reminding your guests to share their moments as they capture them. Tell them to snap it, share it and tag it!

Even if your reception is indoors, adding a tented garden option is becoming popular. Whether serving as a cocktail area or a place of refuge for guests to steal a private moment, it will become an integral part of your wedding. Garden tents come in many shapes and sizes, in materials from sailcloth to clearspan glass, and can be filled with lush landscaping or sparse foliage. The garden tent plays a major role in 2022 weddings.

Digital Invitations

Skip The Line

Lots Of Lights

Digital invitations are making more sense than ever. They’re not just beautiful but smart. These invitations are taking fashion-forward brides by storm. The invitations can be interactive, great for tracking and, most importantly, easily updated if the situation arises. From engagement announcements and save-the-dates to invitations and thank-you notes, paperless seems to be moving into the wedding space at the speed of light!

Many couples are opting for signature drinks as a way to add personal style and color to the cocktail hour or reception. It offers a lot of practical benefits, too — no long lines at the bar! Signature drinks instead of mixed drinks can be prepared ahead of time and can be a much more cost-effective option. They are faster and easier for the bartender to pour and a great complement to the beer and wine!

Brides are thinking outside the “lightbox” and coming up with different looks to integrate lighting in a more personal way. Therefore, it’s no surprise that topping the trends list this year is mood lighting. During the day, they are points of light, and at sunset, they reimagine the space. Either way, lights can set the tone and mood — from exposed industrial bulbs to geometric-shaped lamps and vintage chandeliers.

Custom Face Masks

Wedding Inspiration

Bridal Subscription Boxes

To wear a mask or not to wear a mask? Is this a question for your guests? More and more weddings today are being scheduled and even rescheduled, and everyone is taking safety precautions. Trendy face masks are being ordered in record numbers, some with matching colors to the wedding décor, some personalized, making it fun and easy to note that the “mask” is a must for the reception.

Your grand entrance down the aisle is one of the most photographed parts of your wedding. What was once just an area where a white runner would be placed is now a path filled with gorgeous floral arrangements, candles, vintage carpets for an eclectic feel, bales of hay for the western theme, elevated platforms to create a center stage or potted plants for a simpler effect. It is the focal point of the ceremony — make it grand.

Bridal subscription boxes are all the rage. They are the gift that keeps on giving. SERVING THE NEEDS OF LOCAL PET PARENTS New Pet Supplies Plus Store Has Opened In The Southern Palm Crossing Shopping Plaza STORY BY M. DENNIS TAYLOR | PHOTOS BY ABNER PEDRAZA

A new, locally owned Pet Supplies Plus store has opened in Royal Palm Beach’s Southern Palm Crossing shopping plaza, serving the needs of pet parents throughout the western communities. The store is owned and operated by local entrepreneur Jim Beauchamp. Some of Beauchamp’s fondest memories from his childhood in Chicago involve the family pets. Growing up, it was usually cats.“My dad was a great animal lover,” he said. Later, raising his own family of two sons and two daughters into adulthood, allergies meant that the family pets changed to dogs. Most recently was one very special Yorkie-Poo named Cooper, who passed last March at the age of 18. After a long career working in the information technology and business development field, Beauchamp moved to South Florida in 2014 and continued his 30 years in the IT business, often working online. However, he recently decided to get involved in a field that he has long been passionate about. “I am now 58, and I wanted to get away from tech and get closer to my passion for animals within our local community,” Beauchamp said.“I was in-

terested in opening a neighborhood pet store with experienced personnel, pet washing and grooming, veterinary services, great brands, aggressive pricing, all high quality with a local commitment to the communities and a dedication to invest in the communities through local events and charities.” After searching investment opportunities that catered to his interests in pets and animals, he became a franchisee of Pet Supplies Plus, the nation’s largest independent pet store with more than 560 locations. “I like the business model of Pet Supplies Plus, and the culture of the stores. It expresses my affinity for pets with a kindness and love for animals,” explained Beauchamp, whose franchise group is named Coop Enterprise in honor of his own, much-loved pet. Beauchamp’s store is conveniently located for all of central Palm Beach County. “It’s on Southern Blvd., so it is right on the edge of Royal Palm Beach and Wellington, on a major road for the western communities,” he said.“The store offers ‘neighbors,’ as we call our customers, and their pets a one-stop shop for all their pet needs. It is localized, promotes

convenience and features a full set of services.” Pet Supplies Plus strives to make shopping local simple. Visitors to the store can easily find all their favorites at prices to love, whether they choose to shop in store or online using free curbside pickup, same-day delivery or register for autoship right to their door. The store provides a hassle-free way to find better products for pets, while saving money and celebrating the fun of pet ownership. In addition, the store features amenities such as self-pet wash stations, a knowledgeable pet care team, grooming and carry-out service of heavy items to nearby cars. “The pet wash is unique, allowing neighbors the convenience of getting a pet washed without all the hassle and supplying all the towels you’d have to wash at home,” Beauchamp said. As a community partner, Beauchamp will team up with local animal shelters, rescue organizations and nonprofits to host year-round adoption events, fundraisers, and pet food and product drives. “We are in discussions for some exciting sponsorships coming up,” he said. Getting involved in the community is very important for Pet Supplies Plus. wellington the magazine | october 2021 47

Owner Jim Beauchamp (back) with (L-R) Cherie Giannetti, Philip Mcmullin, Anja De Nobriga, Olivia Gordon, Gabriela Milaros Herrera and Patrick Casto.

“I wanted to see how I could impact the community and put down roots in my local market while also honoring the memory of my family dog,” Beauchamp said. “Pet Supplies Plus is truly neighborhood centric and allows me to help on more of a grassroots level. I am excited to build relationships with my neighbors and provide them quality products and customer care. Because we have buying power, we provide all the brands neighbors expect, holistic to unique, at great prices, but because we are independent, we can offer smaller, boutique brands that are harder to find.” Pet Supplies Plus offers local pet

parents a wide selection of natural pet foods, goods and pet services at low prices, and focuses on a unique, rich instore experience. Pet parents are always welcome to shop with their dogs at the store, where knowledgeable team members are on-site to answer questions, offer tips or just get on their hands and knees to play with pets who enter the store. The knowledgeable and motivated team will help neighbors find everything they need. Each team member is extensively familiar in the areas of natural and holistic foods and are able to answer a broad range of questions about

dogs, cats, birds, reptiles and fish. Store shelves are stocked with the right products, including a wide selection of natural and made-in-the-USA products. “We didn’t cut any corners on the team,” Beauchamp said. “These are not minimum wage jobs. Everyone is trained and motivated.” Shoppers can also take advantage of the free Preferred Pet Club, which offers members regular coupons on products they purchase frequently, and monthly specials, resulting in big savings. Cooper will, of course, be missed, but Beauchamp said he just bought a new aquarium for his home. “I have kept fish for years, and I am sure I will get another dog eventually, but now it is too fresh,” Beauchamp said. He invited area residents to visit the new Pet Supplies Plus location to find everything they need for furry, scaly and feathery friends. “It is a great experience for you and your pet,” Beauchamp said. Pet Supplies Plus Royal Palm Beach is located a 11051 Southern Blvd., Suite 160, in Southern Palm Crossing. It is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, call (561) 345-3151 or visit www.petsuppliesplus.com.

LIVING YOUR BEST LIFE

Dr. Tiffany McCalla owns Calla Genics, located in the original Wellington Mall.

Calla Genics Focuses On Med Spa, Rejuvenation And Sexual Wellness Therapies BY M. DENNIS TAYLOR

Calla Genics, which opened earlier this year in the original Wellington Mall, specializes in non-surgical aesthetic medicine. The practice provides clients with the latest in med spa, rejuvenation and sexual wellness treatments. The practice is the brainchild of Dr. Tiffany McCalla, a board-certified emergency physician with two decades of experience. In recent years, she has become interested in addressing wellness on multiple levels, which led her to establish Calla Genics. “Calla Genics has

been my passion project for years,” Dr. McCalla said. “I’ve been a physician for 20 years, and I am the proud owner of this new, state-of-the-art wellness center. We opened our doors on July 1.” The practice offers aesthetic medical procedures, such as nonsurgical facelifts, breast lifts and acne/scar minimizing. They also focus on rejuvenation treatments, such as hair regrowth/enhancement, IV therapy, vitamin therapy, light therapy, hyperbaric therapy and medical weight loss.

The facility has a concentration in platelet-rich plasma procedures, which helps patients feel and look like a younger version of themselves — regardless of their age. “Our mantra around here is ‘living your best life.’ We strive to add value to seeing the doctor,” she explained. Included in the list of services are a number of treatments for sexual wellness, such as hormone insertion therapy, wave therapy, PRP shots, PDE5 inhibitors and peptide therapy. wellington the magazine | october 2021 51

experience and results.” Dr. McCalla, who grew up in Broward County, has been living in Wellington with her family for nearly a decade. She moved to the community with her husband Alan and her older son Karsten, then an infant. Karsten has since been

joined by four-year-old Kaleb. They are being raised in their hometown of Wellington. “We live here and plan to be here,” she said.“Wellington is a place for kids to grow into great adults.” Known as “Dr. Tiffany” to staff and patients alike, Dr. McCalla was recog-

nized as one of Legacy’s South Florida’s 50 Most Powerful & Influential Woman Leaders of 2020 and as one of the Top 25 Frontline Healthcare Workers in 2021. In addition to practicing medicine, she is president of a nonprofit organization comprised of dedicated healthcare professionals working together to improve health and wellness, access to quality care, and academic and career opportunities for underserved populations in Palm Beach County. “‘Saving the world one patient at a time,’ is an often-repeated motto,” Dr. McCalla said. Dr. McCalla is active in the Palm Beach chapter of Jack & Jill of America. She is also active in the Alpha Alpha Upsilon Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, the oldest Greek letter organization for women of color, established in 1908. Previously known as the Crowned Pearls of Wellington, this group of more than 50 professional women is also the first panhellenic group to focus on service to underserved people in Wellington and the surrounding western communities. Through Calla Genics, Dr. McCalla provides patients with the most powerful and proven procedures that elimi-

nate the common signs of aging. “Calla Genics is a true physician-led facility featuring wave therapy, revitalizing sexual health treatments and laser rejuvenation. Our therapies and products provide benefits for all skin types,” she explained. The practice features the newest technology in plasma skin resurfacing, gentle laser skin rejuvenation, tightening and hair removal, and cryo-slimming technology, which presents a nice gradual process, with no sharp contours, no scars and no downtime. The practice opened during the uncertain times of the pandemic, and that was included in the services offered. “The pandemic hit the pivoting point, so we addressed the challenge of the needs of COVID-19 patients on a concierge-based medical service,” Dr. McCalla said.“We even provide COVID-19 testing in people’s homes if needed. It’s all a part of service.” Calla Genics is located at 12794 W. Forest Hill Blvd., Suites 9-10, in the original Wellington Mall. WINGS, RIBS AND SO MUCH MORE Tree’s Wings & Ribs Brings The Fun With Iconic Food And New Favorites STORY AND PHOTOS BY CALLIE SHARKEY

Home of some of the best wings around, Tree’s Wings & Ribs is a family establishment at heart, filled with locals in the seats and friendly service since 1995. This downhome hotspot is also on the national radar for serving up its iconic chicken wings, which is impressive for a restaurant that avoids the chain and franchise tags. “We are super excited about the National Buffalo Wing Festival coming up. It’s invitation only, and they found us,” General Manager Erin Townsend said. “We had to pass all kinds of credentialing to get in back in 2019, and we took third place for our hot sauce last time. This year, we are going up swinging.” The restaurant caught the attention of Drew Cerza, known as “the Wing King,” after winning best wings locally for 18 years straight. Now, the team is heading back to Buffalo, New York, showcasing four different sauces, including the fan favorite bourbon barbecue, a spicy kick with the “Genghis Khan,” a sweet surprise in the “Elvis” and, of course, the prize-winning hot sauce. “The Genghis Khan is like a hot, spicy mustard-teriyaki almost. I don’t even know quite how to describe it, but it’s delicious. The Elvis is a peanut butter-sauced wing with a banana drizzle and a touch of marshmallow,” Townsend said. “You won’t find anything like it out there!”

(Clockwise from top left) Hot honey wings with the restaurant’s iconic green-hued house dressing and celery on the side; the Buffalo Chicken Wrap is a popular lunch item; when you order the Treemongous Burger, you’re making quite a commitment; the French Onion Soup is made from scratch each day, like all the soups at Tree’s Wings; the Treehouse Salad with grilled chicken breast; and the succulent barbecue ribs weigh in at nearly a pound for each half rack. wellington the magazine | october 2021 55

Yet even if wings are not your thing, Tree’s has got you covered with amazing dishes. Try one of the made-fromscratch-daily soups designed by Chef Kauwela Perreira, who originally hails from Hawaii. “Other than cooking the wings every day and cooking the ribs, I love my soups. We change our soups daily, and we make all the soups from scratch. I love making soups,” Perreira said. “It’s my favorite thing to do. We have Wisconsin beer cheese soup, split pea with black forest ham, conch chowder, crawfish gumbo and French onion soup. We’ve come a long way over the years.” After three years at Tree’s Wings, Perreira is more than just talent in the kitchen. “We are super happy to have him,” Townsend said. “He is absolutely an incredible kitchen manager, and he’s a good man on top of being a good chef. He’s a lead-by-example rather than leadby-yelling kind of guy.” 56

Tree’s Wings is also a great place to have a little extra fun, with karaoke every Friday from 8 to 11 p.m., trivia every Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m., and half off happy hour every single day of the week from 3 to 6 p.m. Don’t want to leave your furry buddy behind? The team welcomes dogs to visit the covered outdoor seating area. “We love when people bring their puppies. We will bring out doggie bowls of water, cook them up hamburger patties — whatever those puppies want,” Townsend said. “We are very dog friendly.” If you aren’t comfortable coming in to sit down, that’s OK too. Tree’s Wings has the largest delivery area in the western communities, delivering wings to all of Wellington and Royal Palm Beach, most of Loxahatchee and The Acreage, and much of suburban West Palm Beach. “We are working on everybody else’s comfort level. We are just trying to be

accommodating to everyone’s needs,” Townsend said. So, if the hand-cut curly fries aren’t enough to get the kids through the door, and noise level is a concern, Tree’s has a unique layout with one portion of the restaurant set aside for a quieter experience. The lounge is family friendly and away from the special evening events, but still has a full bar available to customers. After setting foot inside, don’t forget to sign up for the free VIP program. All dine-in and takeout orders over $10 earns a chance to spin the wheel for great prizes. It is also the best way to keep up with special events and promotions. “You can win things from free appetizers to free drinks to 15 percent off. We have Tree’s dollars, they look like dollar bills with our logo on them, and you can accumulate those and spend them all at once or spend them on your next visit,” Townsend said. “You can also win promotional items and Tree’s

wellington | table gear. It’s just a lot of fun. We don’t abuse the e-mail and only send them out once or twice a month.” Townsend said that Tree’s Wings enjoys its reputation catering to the local community. “We are all local, no frills but super yummy food,” she said. “There is no dress code, but I’ve seen full wedding parties, all dressed up, come in for the wings! Honestly, we have lunch specials every day, so you should really come here twice a day.” What does Townsend like on the impressive menu? “The Cajun Wings, drenched in house dressing,” she said. “That is my kryptonite.” The restaurant is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The kitchen closes at 10 p.m., although during some events, such as karaoke night, the bar remains open later. Delivery and takeout orders, including curbside and contactless delivery,

FUN ENTERTAINMENT AND LASTING FRIENDSHIPS The Wellington Seniors Club Provides For The Social Needs Of Older Residents STORY BY M. DENNIS TAYLOR | PHOTOS BY DENISE FLEISCHMAN

The Wellington Seniors Club has been serving the social needs of older residents in the Village of Wellington for nearly 30 years, creating lasting friendships, fun and entertainment for a vibrant slice of the community’s population. Eileen Kuhnel is the current president of the Wellington Seniors Club, an independent nonprofit that is open to residents of Wellington age 55 and

over. “They join when they can, but then get really active when they retire,” Kuhnel said of the group’s large membership. Kuhnel stressed that the Wellington Seniors Club was established primarily for recreational activities, and its monthly luncheons and seasonal dinners are, in normal times, among the most wellattended events held in Wellington. Kuhnel explained that 29 years ago,

back in 1992, some 25 members joined the fledgling group. Today, there are more than 650 members, enrolled and active. Currently, the membership rolls are frozen until after the start of 2022. “Even when people get old enough and they go back home up north to be near their families, they remain members so they get the membership newsletter and can keep up with Florida friends,” she said. wellington the magazine | october 2021

While the club would love to get back to business as usual, the group has been careful during the pandemic to continue providing social events in as safe a fashion as possible. “These events may include a drivethrough box lunch special for 250 people,” Kuhnel said. “Everyone wears a mask, it’s not enclosed, and everyone maintains social distancing.” She is very proud of the way the club and its membership has travailed the difficult times of the pandemic. “Wellington people seem to take better care of themselves and are more cautious,” Kuhnel said. However, she is eager to get back to in-person events.“We want to move into the next planning stage,” Kuhnel said. “There are new and exciting ideas depending upon what opens up.” Previously, the club has taken members on social trips, as well as the lun62 october 2021 | wellington the magazine

“It’s nice for fellowship with people of the same age, and a continuity of experience. When we started meeting when I joined, there were 35 to 38 people, and now there are 650-plus.” — Mae Loglisci cheons. Kuhnel described some of these adventures, such as airboat rides in the Everglades. “It was exhilarating,” she said. “All the adventures involve a bus ride with about 55 of your favorite Wellington retirees. That’s because of the size of the buses and restaurants that accommodate us. Other trips are on oceangoing boats, flattops for the backcountry observing trips in the Keys, SeaWorld, the St. John’s River, the Broadway Palm Theatre with buffet dinners in Fort My-

ers, casino trips, and trips to all your favorite and soon-to-be-favorite area restaurants.” The club makes it easy for local retirees to participate. “Everything is planned in advance, there’s a trip coordinator, and your only responsibility is to remember your assigned seating so you will still be close to your friends,” Kuhnel said. “The food and beverages are planned, parking is a breeze and your car stays right in the neighborhood.”

Convenience is key when planning events for local seniors. “Wellington gives us a designated place to park at the community center. The cars are parked there for the day, and we go off on our event,” she said. “The number of activities in the year are about nine lunches, about 12 of the stepping out programs and the two annual dances.” Those dances include a holiday dance and a spring dance. The board of directors is traditionally installed during the holiday event. “The camaraderie is so important,” Kuhnel said.“It’s very easy for seniors to get lonely.” Not big on social media, the group uses phone trees and a newsletter to keep in contact with members. “Everything is planned in advance, there’s a trip coordinator, and your only responsibility is to remember your assigned seating so you will still be close to your friends.” — Eileen Kuhnel on Wellington Seniors Club Trips

“I like to have lunch in there about once a month. The luncheons at the equestrian center are great, and the trips that didn’t go on during the pandemic were missed,” she said. “There’s the ballroom, the box lunches, the different vendors every month or so. It’s entertainment for up to 300 at each luncheon. Before COVID-19, we outgrew the facility, and they had to move us to another location.” Mae Loglisci currently serves as the corresponding secretary. She has served on the board of directors for 11 of her 22 years in the club. “It’s nice for fellowship with people of the same age, and a continuity of experience,” Loglisci said.“When we started meeting when I joined, there were 35 to 38 people, and now there are 650-plus. We go to many theaters, casinos and the Japanese gardens. Luncheons are now at the gym at Village Park because we outgrew the [community center] building. There are different caterers and there’s entertainment — it’s a fun, fun group.”
