The Hipp’s production uses modern technology (cell phones, social networking) to bring the story to life for a new generation. It is an unforgettable adventure of royal weddings, star-crossed lovers, mistaken identity, magical potions and of course, lots of mischief and merriment. Men in tights are replaced by a cityscape of hipsters and modern communications; cell phones and social networking give the comedy new life. In the manner of recent Hippodrome hits, A Midsummer Night’s Dream is played by actors taking on multiple roles. Santa Fe College Spring Arts Festival Art+Jazz, Green+Blues

Saturday, April 14, 9 am - 5:30 pm Jazz at the Thomas Center until 8:30 pm Sunday, April 15, noon - 5:30 pm NE 1st Street, north of University Avenue Gainesville, Florida springartsfestival.com Free Admission Over 100,000 visitors are expected at North Central Florida’s longest-running arts festival. The awardwinning event features top artists from throughout the country in all visual media. Booths line historic NE 1st street, while three stages feature performances throughout both days. Enjoy the work of youth artists, music and dance performances and children’s activities among the oaks, fountain and expansive lawns of the historic Thomas Center.

This year the festival goes Green, saving paper and resources. Blues represents music, with free jazz and blues on the Thomas Center’s garden stage all afternoon until 8:30 pm. Meet this year’s poster artist, Kana Handel, at 2:30 pm March 27 in the President’s Lobby at Santa Fe College, 3000 NW 83rd St., Gainesville. A free exhibit of Handel’s art will be displayed there March 20 - April 13.
