FLORIDA STATE GOLF ASSOCIATION
Thank you for supporting the Florida State Golf Association. As a member of the FSGA, you are helping us preserve and protect this great game.
We must first recognize all of the FSGA Committee Volunteers who make our service to the game possible. There are more than 450 volunteers across Florida who assist with tournaments and course rating. The FSGA has become one of the premier state golf associations in the country because of these fine men and women.
In 2023, we look forward to conducting a full schedule of over 550 days of competition including: 51 state championships, 46 USGA qualifying events, and over 150 One-Day tournaments.
The Florida Junior Tour (FJT) continues to provide competitive and affordable tournaments for the state’s top junior golfers. In its 21st season, the FJT consists of over 50 events for boys and girls ages 9-18. If you have the chance, come out to see these unbelievable junior golfers!

WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE YEAR - BAILEY SHOEMAKER
Bailey Shoemaker, also named the 2022 Girls’ Junior Player of the Year, received this honor after a remarkable season filled with an FSGA Championship victory and runner-up finishes in USGA events.
Shoemaker captured her second FSGA championship win and the first of her 2022 season at the 93rd Women’s Amateur Championship. After a grueling 130 holes of golf, Shoemaker defeated Maisie Filler, 3 and 2, to raise the trophy at Streamsong Resort. She became the first junior golfer ever to win the Women’s Amateur Championship in the championship’s 93-year history.

He earned a runner-up finish at the 68th Boys’ Junior Championship, carding rounds of 72-68-71, at Seminole Legacy Golf Course in Tallahassee. Long also qualified for and competed in stroke play of the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon.

Just weeks before winning the Women’s Amateur Championship, Shoemaker made the cut at the U.S. Women’s Open at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in North Carolina. The Florida Junior Tour alum finished the championship in a tie for 49th.

VOLUNTEERS OF THE YEAR
TOURNAMENT VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR - ALAN TARTER
Alan Tarter has been volunteering with the FSGA for nearly 10 years, beginning in 2013. His dedication and support for the game is evident, volunteering at over 30 events in just this year alone. Tarter enjoys learning the Rules of Golf and is a Certified Senior Rules Official.
“I never expected anything like this award and it is very rewarding,” Tarter said. “It is just so rewarding to have the comradery between other officials and to be able to give back to the game.”
The New York native was first introduced to the game when he was 12 years old. After taking six lessons from the assistant golf professional at Harrison Country Club, in Westchester, NY, Tarter was hooked! He won the 1960 Westchester County Junior Golf Championship and continues to play over 300 rounds of golf each year.
COURSE RATING VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR - MARY JANE CRUSSELLE
Mary Jane Crusselle is captain of the Section 11 Course Rating team in Manatee and Sarasota counties. She leads a team of women that work together to conduct between six and eight course ratings each year.
Before moving to Palmetto, Florida from Rhode Island in 1987, Crusselle worked as an Executive Secretary for Stock Brokers. At age 26, Crusselle started learning how to play golf and loved every aspect of the game. She enjoys being outside on the golf course and the friendliness of the game.
Crusselle started volunteering with the FSGA in 1994 and put her background in numbers to work learning the Course Rating System. FSGA Hall of Fame member, Karen Korf asked Crusselle to be a co-captain of the team 15 years ago. When the game of golf lost a great friend with Korf’s passing in 2021, Crusselle took on the responsibility of captain.
