CELEBRATIONS ALL ROUND Awards have featured heavily in the last few weeks, for both the BPMA and its membership. But plenty more work has been going on at the Association.

ne of the biggest nights of the year for the BPMA took place shortly after the last issue of flow was published – the Pump Industry Awards. It was a fantastic opportunity for the industry to come together and recognise the amazing work being carried out in the pump sector, and a detailed roundup of the night and the very worthy winners can be found on page seven of this issue. There were yet more awards for members of the association when Grundfos Pumps was given the accolade ‘Company of the Year’, in the global water and wastewater pump market sector, at management consultants Frost & Sullivan’s recent global awards ceremony. Then the tables turned for the BPMA in May, when the organisation found itself a finalist in the Contribution to Skills & Training category at The 2019 Motion
Control Industry Awards. The welldeserved nomination was in respect of the Association’s e-learning based pump courses. The annual BPMA Golf Day, held amid glorious weather in May, saw yet more awards – for longest drive, nearest the hole and for overall winners, AESSEAL. The event saw a rise in participants over last year with support from sponsors who included ABB, WEG, Flowserve and Wilo. Elsewhere, the BPMA has been busy sharing details of its work and supporting its members. The organisation’s Technical Services Officer, Gary Wilde, addressed the audience at CHEMUK EXPO, explaining the role of the Certified Pump System Auditor Scheme (CPSA) and how it can benefit companies working within the sector. The organisation has also been updating members on significant
changes taking place within the ATEX standards. And representatives attended the Europump annual meeting, where pump manufacturer associations from 17 nations gathered for a three-day conference. Membership of the BPMA has grown yet again. Residential and commercial specialist, London Basement Pumps; seal manufacturer and supplier, Vulcan Seals; fluid-filled pump and motor producer Hayward Tyler; and Sulzer Pump Solutions Ireland have all benefitted from joining the BPMA. This continued growth in membership can be, in part, attributed to the value organisations gain from their investment in the Association. This year, the BPMA has revealed that, for the second year running, all members will receive a complimentary copy of Oxford Economics’ World Pump Report – something that has been chargeable in recent years. The Association has also gone one step further than last year – when it reduced membership rate increases to less than the rate of inflation – by announcing that in 2019 membership fees for both new and continued memberships will be frozen at 2018 rates.
