We are passionate about working with clients to reinvent themselves; and through our holistic design approach, take them on a journey to become the brand they want to be... [7]

LEANNE WADDELL

DESIGN DIRECTOR AND CLIENT SERVICES

Our design director works across all projects from very beginning. She meets with clients regularly and maintains contact with them throughout the course of the project. She organises briefs, leads team meetings with the studio and delegates tasks across the team. The role also requires her to overlook, critique and provide constructive feedback on team members’ progress over the course of the project to ensure the consistency of the design outcomes and alignment with client needs/brief.

LUKE ZORBAS

FINISHED ARTIST & DESIGNER

Our graphic designer/finished artist deals with all the graphic elements from assistance in client presentations to participation in team mind mapping and final art design work. His design role requires him to work on logo design, editorial layouts, stationery design and other miscellaneous design work. He contacts printers and sets up all design work so that it is ready for print as finished art work.

SOFIA FAYNBLIT

EMPLOYEE RELATIONS & DESIGNER

We have more than one graphic designer and she helps us throughout the research phase and design phase. She provides the team with design critique and assists in team design work and is heavily involved in the ideation stage from participating in team mind mapping to sketching ideas and design work. She also works with newcomers and freelancers to guide them through studio work and provide support where needed.

DANIA DARWISH

STUDIO MANAGER & DESIGNER

Our studio manager helps maintain studio costs from monthly billings to salaries of all employees. This role also consists of maintaining team wellness through organisation of team activities outside of work and involving the studio in non client related projects to encourage learning and skills building. She is also equipped with design skills necessary for in depth research and to participate in the ideation and design phase.

Research

Conception

The research phase will consist of research into the client and their company’s brand essence and values. We look at best practice reviews and gather information on competitors. We continue to research into the end user of our design and delve into immersion to truly understand the customer’s wants and needs through surveys, contextual interviews, and immersion through “walking in the customer shoes” through store visits for example.

The conception phase includes a lot of mind-mapping and extraction of the learnings from the prior phase. This phase helps us to unpack the important bits and to create numerous ideas that are relevant to the brief. We then put these ideas to the test through various form of prototyping.

[ 10 ]

Design

Refinement

In the design phase, we narrow down ideas and with close feedback from the client, we begin designing. This phase may include, sketching, photographing, editorial designs and so on.

Finally we come to the refinement phase. To offer clients the best possible results, we work to refine the designs, extend them and finalise all artworks.

[ 11 ]

We price our services based on the size of project and amount of work required. Our clients are given a cost estimate before we begin the project based off the brief given and what they require. Each of the phases are priced according to which activities we are asked to do for a particular project. If a project is stopped halfway, we round up the price to the nearest completed phase. Below is our costing for creating our studio:

We called ourselves Studio Inbetween as it came up in conversation while we were deciding on studio names. We also then furthered this concept of being ‘Inbetween’ in our language and studio philosophy. From there we all came up with our own versions of the logo after some brainstorming sessions before deciding on a final logo. Our font choices are suited to attracting a higher end of the market, with serif fonts paired with a clean sans-serif font for visual contrast. Similarly, our colours are very formal and simple, and are very complementary to each other.

Studio Space

& Operations [ 24 ]

Studio [Inbetween] is located on 66 Oxford Street, Paddington. We chose to be located in Paddington because it is inbetween the CBD and the beach. The location is cultured, surrounded by creative businesses and eateries. It is also very accessible for both our clients and ourselves. Our space features a beautiful open workspace with large windows that let in natural light this helps us to open our minds and think clearly at work.

Our services are for anyone who are inbetween their startup to their goal and are looking to refresh their brand. We work mainly with established small to medium sized business from musicians to cafes and anyone inbetween!

Our studio is a townhouse placed inbetween other townhouses. It is split into three levels: the top level for lease, the bottom for our offices and the street level as a general reception area. The studio allows us to invite clients to the space and keep it professional by separating the reception area from our work area through the levels. We rent out the top level to like-minded freelancers who share our street level including the lounge, meeting room, toilets and kitchen. Our bottom level is purely our design area, which includes the idea room and our office work area. The idea room is used for team meetings, collating information, general idea making, freelancers and for any work requiring a large table. In the office work area we have four desks (however we can fit more in the future). Our desks are large enough for two to fit so that we can easily pull up to each other’s desks and give feedback. We will often consult each other inbetween design decisions.
