Parastatals The National Institute for Sport (NIS) The National Institute for Sport (NIS) was established in 1972 with the mandate to drive manpower development in sports. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)

London 2012 Olympics TEAM NIGERIA got to 6 finals and 8 semifinals of athletics events with many of the athletes competing for the first time.

One of our female athletes ran a personal best of 10.92 in 100 meters. No Nigerian female athlete has ever done this in the history of the Olympics.

18th National Sports Festival In 2012, the 18th National Sports Festival, EKO 2012, held in Lagos State. We recorded the highest number of participants ever in the history of the Festival. 11,045 athletes and officials from all 36 states and the FCT participated. AFCON 2013 In the run-up to AFCON 2013, the presidential support the Super Eagles received was unprecedented. While the Super Eagles were training at the National Stadium Abuja, Mr. President paid a surprise visit to boost the morale of the team.

AFCON 2013 The Super Eagles also received a letter from His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan shortly before they departed for South Africa, encouraging and inspiring the team to victory. In addition to this was a Skype Video Call by Mr. President to the Super Eagles in the middle of the tournament in South Africa. Why the Retreat? The London 2012 Olympics marked the climax of our dwindling fortunes in sports. Although our performance at the London 2012 Paralympics appeared to have compensated for our outing at the Olympics; Mr. President acknowledged the need to immediately reposition the sports sector. Nigeria Academicals Sports Committee (NASCOM) The Nigeria Academicals Sports Committee (NASCOM) is the flagship vehicle of the National Sports Commission (NSC) for grassroots sports development. The Board of NASCOM is comprised of the Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF), Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), the Federal Ministry of Education, the NSC and the private sector. Rhythm N’ Play Rhythm N’ Play has been designed with particular attention on the use of music, creativity, celebrities, volunteers, new media and other elements of pop culture to amplify and realize its objectives. The campaign was launched by Mr. President on June 6, 2013.

National Stadia Facilities The Commission has five (5) national stadia in Abuja, Lagos, Bauchi, Kaduna and Ibadan. The Commission has transferred ownership of the Enugu national stadium to the Enugu State Government.
