CSX is renovating to modernize and update the space “and to accommodate changes to the office space needs of our staff,” Doolittle said. Projects include modifications to the lobby area, the 15th floor and several other locations. He said the work is expected to be completed over the next year in phases to minimize disruption for employees. CSX also wants to invest $85,000 into interior demolition of the first- and second-floor coffee shop and café at the Downtown headquarters and almost $102,500 into renovations of its data center at 6425 Southpoint Parkway. “The company is implementing plans to maximize our use of CSX-owned facilities and to modernize them to provide a better-quality work environment and help strengthen our organizational alignment by colocating work groups to improve efficiency,” Doolittle said. Auld & White Constructors also is the contractor for the coffee shop and café project. Interior demolition involves 19,820 square feet on the first and second floors. The permit applications and plans say the tenant improvements will be sought separately.

Doolittle said some functions are being consolidated and additional employees will be assigned to the headquarters building. He said the company is enhancing the kitchen equipment and physical layout of the employee cafeteria. He also said CSX will add a small concession space and collaborative spaces in the main lobby area where employees can buy coffee, snack items and sundries. In Southpoint, at Butler Boulevard and Interstate 95, property records show CSX owns three buildings totaling 68,306 square feet. They’re on 22.8 acres at 6425 Southpoint Parkway. The city issued a permit Aug.

9 for Duckworth Construction Co. to renovate 4,600 square feet in a Data Center building at that address. Doolittle said CSX also continues to occupy some leased space in Southpoint at 6800 Southpoint Drive. “These efforts and others to come are part of the overall facilities program that CSX is implementing to accommodate the business’ changing requirements in the Jacksonville area,” Doolittle said. He said the projects “represent an investment in CSX’s future as a major Jacksonville employer, and the work is being competitively contracted with local firms.”

Curry to decide soon on London trip By David Cawton Staff Writer Mayor Lenny Curry said Tuesday he is unsure whether he will travel to London to watch the Jacksonville Jaguars play Sunday. “I’m on a day-by-day basis on that,” he said. “My focus has been recovery and primarily power restoration.” Curry said he will decide later this week whether to join the Jacksonville delegation, which is spending the week in the United Kingdom ahead of the annual game. Curry said he wanted to make sure the city was OK before committing to the trip a week after Jacksonville felt the impact of Hurricane Irma. For the fifth year, the Jaguars are hosting a “home” game at Wembley Stadium in London. Each year, members of Jacksonville’s government and business communities, led by the JAXUSA Partnership and JAX Chamber, spend most of the week before the game meeting with companies and trade organizations in the hope of recruiting them to expand or relocate their operations to Northeast Florida. “Since we began our commitment to the NFL International Series in 2012, the profile of the team and our city has grown considerably. Fortunately, that increased exposure has translated to job growth here in Northeast Florida,” said a statement by Jaguars President Mark Lamping. Lamping said the team will continue to support the chamber and Curry “in their economic development efforts in any way we can as what is good for Jacksonville is also good for the Jaguars.” The delegation includes Cur-

Harrison was hired in March. He has been implementing Precision Scheduled Railroading, his philosophy of improving railroad operations that he put into place at other major companies. In February, before Harrison joined, CSX announced it would cut 1,000 jobs, including many management-level positions in Jacksonville. CSX’s year-to-date jobs cuts are up to 2,700, Chief Financial Officer Frank Lonegro said at an investor conference this month. Beyond the 2,700, CSX also cut 1,000 contractors and consultants, he said. The company’s latest monthly employment report filed with the U.S. Surface Transportation Board showed the company has reduced total employment in its system to 22,313. CSX, whose rail operations cover much of the eastern U.S., said previously it cut 951 management-level positions this year, mainly at its Jacksonville headquarters.

Ecolab taking second building at Tradeport Ecolab Inc. landed a permit to expand at Jacksonville International Tradeport by building out a structure it is leasing next door to its current facility. Haskew Company Inc. will

build out the 54,000 square feet of space at a cost of $570,348. Ecolab spokesman Roman Blahoski said previously the company intends to expand into a new building at 13475 International Parkway this fall. It is next to Ecolab’s leased 127,000-square-foot structure at 13500 Tradeport Circle E., which it occupied in September 2015. Ecolab, based in St. Paul, Minnesota, provides water, hygiene, and energy technologies and services for global customers. One of its operating units serves the health care industry. Blahoski, director of global communications, said the Tradeport expansion is because of growth in its health care business. He said there would be no increase in employment. It also represents an expansion to a company approved in December 2014 for city incentives to move to the Tradeport. Ecolab created more jobs than required. The city said the company retained the required 55 jobs but has created 70 new jobs, double the 35 needed for the grant. That puts its workforce at 125 employees.
