What is the difference between a profile and a page? Check out our Facebook page
Put simply, profiles are for individuals and pages are for businesses. Profiles and pages have different features; in fact there are certain features that are no longer permitted for business pages but are indeed available with individual profiles. • Businesses are only allowed to open pages not a profile. A business that opens a profile page is in direct violation of Facebook terms and conditions of use. • Business pages allow other Facebook users to become fans, but access to the individual’s profile page who created the business page is limited. • Business pages do not allow the ability to invite friends or maintain a friends list – they can only maintain a fan list. Is your Facebook page set up as a profile rather than business page? To change your page in a couple of minutes click here.

Create a vanity URL Once you have set up your Facebook page, create a vanity URL. 1. Visit Facebook.com/username to walk through the wizard to choose the username for your vanity URL. 2. Choose a URL for your business - It’s best to simply choose your business name. You are committing to this username forever, so you want to make sure it will stick with you as your business grows and changes. If you have multiple pages, you can choose a username for each
Let your customer’s know that you are on Facebook by… 1. Including a Facebook icon on your email signatures 2. Putting it on your website – all icons can be accessed via gateway 3. Advertising in your newsletters to customers

Showcase Apps ‘Tabs’ are now displayed as Apps, located below your Timeline Cover. You can have up to 12, however only four will display by default. The first one is always ‘Photos’ and cannot be moved, whereas the rest are editable. Furthermore, you can customise your third party Apps thumbnail images - great for branding, promotions and calls to action. The dimensions are 111 (wide) x 74 (high) pixels.
Milestones Go back in time to add business milestones on your Timeline. When you do, these will post at the right date, and go out into the news feed of your fans to create more visibility and engagement. The milestones feature of Timeline is designed to cater for what Facebook calls ‘Legacy Brands‘ – those brands with historical data spanning decades that they’d like to feature.

Wall Filters Page walls now have four filters: Highlights, Posts by Page, Posts by Others, and Friend Activity. The default is always Highlights. In your page settings (Admin Panel > Manage > Edit Page > Manage Permissions), you can choose to not let anyone write on your wall, or to not display Posts by others. However, it’s highly recommended that you allow everyone to write on your wall, add photos and videos, and display the box for Recent Posts by Others.
Pin posts Any post made by the Page can be pinned on the top of the wall for up to 7 days. I suggest rotating which posts are pinned and not letting any post sit there for longer than 1-2 days. You never know how many repeat visitors are coming to your Page and you want to keep it fresh for them. Highlight posts Page administrators can choose to display any post made by the Page or by others as ‘double wide’ – meaning the post spreads across both columns of the Timeline. Hover over a post and click the star icon to highlight.

Posts by others Posts made by others (fans and non-fans) are in a small box at the top right called Recent Posts by Others. You can scroll in this field without leaving your wall

Adjust photos You can now reposition photos shared by you or others on your page. Hover and click the edit pencil, then click Reposition photo, then drag the image where you want it and click Save. Messages Fans and visitors can now private Message fan administrators. This feature can be turned off in your settings, however it is recommended to leave it on to encourage connection from prospects! On the other hand, you cannot initiate messages as your page; you can only communicate via Messages when someone contacts you first. Admin Panel It takes several more clicks to get to the various settings of your Page now. You may have to dig deep to find features that were once just one click away. For example, to view your Hidden Posts (posts flagged as spam by Facebook that are only visible to Page Administrators, to the person/page who made the post, and to friends of that person) – previously it was ONE click on the Hidden Posts link under your Wall on the left. Now, it’s FIVE clicks to get to the same place! Click Admin Panel > Manage > Use Activity Log > All (upper right menu) > Spam. From there, hover over the spam icon to the right of any post that is not spam, and click Unmark as Spam.

Reach women through Pinterest There’s a new website that has proven to be the hottest, fastest growing social media portal, particularly among women – Pinterest . Pinterest gives people virtual bulletin boards that they decorate with pictures showcasing interests in anything from food to sports, fashion or travel. The clue for the industry here is that this social media website reaches women more than any other site. Research proves women are the decision makers when it comes to property transactions so agents could benefit from quickly learning how best to capture their attention. Rather than simply pinning listings to the board, perhaps a smarter approach would be to simply pin the best property renovations your agency has seen to the board. Find out more about how Pinterest could be advantageous for your agency.
