Customers today have more information at their fingertips, with the internet and consumer reports available, and most of them do their research. When a Hyundai vehicle’s style, comfort, safety features, quality, and price are matched up against a comparable vehicle of another manufacturer, Hyundai will nearly always win, which is why they have been recognized as the fastest growing car manufacturer in the world.
The atmosphere of The Beauclaire can only be described as casual elegance. The charming dining room with its gentle curve of windows overlooking the Victorian tea garden combined with friendly, knowledgeable staff and fantastic American-Southern fare invite you to sit back and relax in ambiance infused with history, romance, and good oldfashioned Southern hospitality.

ere we are in the middle of July… the actual “Dog Days of Summer!” So, I guess it is only appropriate that I introduce the new addition to our family. We have adopted a teenager! Spencer is a 13-year-old Italian Greyhound. His arrival into our life came quite unexpectedly. We have been cat owners for years, but were on the fence regarding adding a dog into the mix. Our excuses were basic: We travel a lot. Our yard is not fenced in. The cats won’t like it. Pets are expensive.

Sundays 4pm-8pm $1 per game/$1 shoe rental Mondays & Tuesdays 9am-10pm $15 per hour including shoes Up to Five people per lane Wednesdays – All Day $1 per game/$1 shoe rental Thursdays - All Day $1.25 per game $1.00 shoe rental
However, when I got the phone call asking if we would be willing to foster Spencer to keep him from going to the pound, all of those excuses didn’t seem to matter. I felt by fostering him, we could try on dog ownership without the full commitment. If it didn’t work out and he wasn’t a good fit in our lives, they would find him a new home. Nothing to lose, right? You can easily see where this is headed! It took me all of about 5 minutes to fall in love with Spencer. He is the sweetest boy! He has fit right into our lives to the point I don’t remember him not being here. I have become one of those crazy ladies that dresses up their dog and takes them everywhere with them. If I can’t find the outfit I want, I have started making them for him, including a “Super Spencer” costume. Spencer even has his own Facebook page (with lots of friends). While he has a really nice fluffy dog bed, he sleeps cuddled up, under the covers, right between me and Paul every night! Spencer is definitely a risk I am happy I took. We adopted him through the Greyhound Protection Senior Society, which specializes in the placement of greyhounds over the age of seven. As you could expect, people tend to want younger dogs and the older ones are difficult to find good homes for. When we found out Spencer’s age, it did make me hesitate briefly. We know that he is in his final years. However, he does still have some good times left in him. I am so happy we get to give him the love he deserves for however long we can. I’ll be keeping our readers posted on Spencer’s adventures! You will see his picture in the magazine frequently. You will see him with me around town, especially at the pet friendly events, such as Pups on the Patio. You can also follow him on Facebook – just send a friend request to Supa Spencer.

Leesburg Lightning T Baseball at its Best! Team
he Leesburg Lightning is part of an exciting summer league in Central Florida. Bruce Erickson started the league because of his passion for baseball and to give young players the opportunity to improve their skills. With teams competing from Deland, Sanford, Winter Park, Orlando and Winter Haven, many of the hopefuls come to play ball against other collegiate athletes. Those wanting to play professional ball get to show off their talents to the major league scouts who attend the games. Did you know they started using aluminum bats because they were cheaper? When they come to this league they use a wooden bat which can change the dynamics of how a player will bat in the pros. With over 500 applicants for Leesburg alone, the level of play is excellent. You might even remember Jonathan Lucroy who went pro as a starting catcher. Now his younger brother is on the field. There have been several minor leaguers from past seasons and this year there are two players being drafted , David Lucroy and Garrett Bush. The new head coach, David Therneau, is off to a great start with a win, loss currently at 11-5. The past teams have been to the

championships 3 times and won twice in the past four years. The championship games are held at Tropicana Field; a dream for many a boy in their youth hoping to make it to the big leagues. The other opportunities from the league allow several interns to experience what Sports Management involves. They do the leg work and game day operations, including spectator entertainment. Many host families get involved by providing the athletes a place to stay. In return, for example, the players get involved in the community by volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club and the library reading program. This exciting league is open to the public for free, so take the family out to the ballgame! Go to www. leesburglightning.com for a schedule and come cheer on your team!

New Beginnings Battle of the Bands Music to feed the body and soul Article and photos by : Marion E. Wildey
W
hile Lake County boasts hospitality and charm to soothe any soul, it has it’s challenges as well. Throughout the county, families are finding themselves homeless for various reasons, including startling statistics that is the number one cause for homeless women, and for men, lack of affordable housing. New Beginnings is a non-profit organization that works with the homeless by providing skills from which to transform their lives. NB helps these individuals “learn how to live a better life by making good choices and to recover from their hurts, habits & hang ups.” NB hosted Battle of the Bands in the new waterfront pavilion to raise funds for their new facility. “Battle of the Bands was a way to reach a lot of people. Music is a big draw,” says Sandy Farnsworth of New Beginnings. “We want to bring awareness to the situation in Lake County of how many homeless and how
many are on the verge of losing their homes.” The Battle of the Bands consisted of the Ruth King Blues Band, Real Life Church, Lost and Found, Deadbolt Revisited, Overdue Bill and the Collectors, and the Bowery Boys. They audience voted for Lost and Found, and they won a $500 check sponsored by Chic-fil-A. They gave life to “some great songs that were lost, but found their way back.” Five dollar donations at the door were collected to continue to meet New Beginnings goal of $120,000 for the community center off of highway 27. The community center will offer computer training, counseling, kids activities, and a food pantry for people to transform their lives, and get back on their feet. Visit newbeginningslake.org for a list of items needed for donations, and another Battle of the Bands at the Wesley Center on August 5th.

Strengthening Mind and Body
Designer Diane Klemme walks a customer through a virtual kitchen
Article by: Heather Graham
or fitness trainer and owner of Boom Fitness, Lonnie Hanft, helping people reach their health and fitness goals has always been a personal ambition. More than ten years ago, Lonnie, began to focus on nutritional and fitness studies, with the ultimate objective being the opportunity to work one on one with clients. He is an ISSA certified fitness trainer and fitness therapist. He also has a degree in massage therapy, graduating with honors in anatomy,
physiology, and kinesiology, Lonnie is also a 3rd degree black belt with 13 years experience in martial arts. In talking with people, Lonnie learned that many people are simply intimidated to work out by themselves in a public gym. They are unfamiliar with the equipment and its proper use; they are worried about incurring ridicule or even injury if they misuse. By working one on one with a client, Lonnie can not only create an individual fitness program but, can also teach them proper form and technique in using the work-out equipment, as well as educate them on the best way to work out each muscle group. When meeting with a new client for the first time, Lonnie begins by performing a fitness assessment. This includes discussing the client’s health goals. Are they trying to lose weight? Bulk up? Improve strength? He then evaluates the client’s current health and fitness levels by performing a 9 Point Body Fat Test, a Body Mass Index review, getting current weight and body measurements,

and discussing the client’s nutritional habits as well as any physical limitations they may have. Not only are each individual’s objectives different, the path to achieving those goals is also different. Lonnie, designs an exclusive program for each of his clients, with their own capabilities and objectives in mind. Over the many years of being in this business Lonnie has heard numerous reasons people have as to why they don’t have a fitness program or can’t stay dedicated to a fitness regimen, or think they can’t afford a personal trainer. Lonnie makes fitness training not only affordable and convenient but when you start seeing the results you will get, staying dedicated is simple. With Lonnie, even pricing is dependent on your goals and level of commitment. Once he has met with you, he can design a program that fits not only your fitness needs, but also your schedule and your wallet. Sessions can be in thirty minute or one hour increments. Even a ½ hour 2-3 times per week, can change your life Currently, Lonnie, meets with his clients at the Anytime Fitness located on Hwy 50 in Clermont. He is also available to meet with clients in their homes, fitness centers or place of business. He believes his one-on-one method is most effective due to his ability to focus completely on the one individual client. Lonnie, is extending a special offer to FOCUS Magazine readers. If you purchase one month of personal training sessions, you will get a second month free. For details on this offer, contact Boom Fitness today.

Editor’s Note
Lonnie has been my personal fitness trainer for the past twelve weeks. We meet once a week for him to torture me! I have never been routine about exercise and knew I had a long way to go. However, after just six weeks, I had already lost over 10 inches! I quickly became a firm believer in Lonnie’s methods. – Heather Graham
Clermont Kitchen & Bath Design Center An oasis of possibilities Story and Photos by : Marion E. Wildey

he home is our castle, and it should look like one when we come home. Paint and décor play a role, but when it comes down to it, permanent installations make all the difference. Of the two rooms we spend the most time in, the kitchen is the most social spot. It would stand to reason, then, that the kitchen should literally be the oasis from which you gain your sustenance. Most of us are spending more time in our homes, and Clermont Kitchen & Bath Design Center has your taste in mind when it comes to remodeling. “A kitchen is a beautiful thing to create because it’s the heart of the house. Wherever you live, that’s where you see all of your family, where you see everybody, and hang together with everybody.” Owner of Clermont Kitchen & Bath Design Center, Eytan Tayer, enjoys creating kitchens for this reason. His designer, Diane Klemme walks you through the project, and helps you decide upon limitless possibilities. Perhaps you’d never thought of remodeling, but given the improvements on your surroundings, increased home value, and the
attention to detail, a new kitchen or bath could be in your future for less than you can imagine. Clermont Kitchen & Bath Design Center has everything in stock, takes free measurements and works with the customer’s budget. A virtual kitchen allows you to see cabinets, countertops, and flooring in completion before installation. A one-stop facility, their professional installation team coordinates electric, cabinets and everything in between, in three to ten days, depending upon the project. Their quality materials include solid wood cabinets and an array of beautiful granite countertops, priced 30-40 % less than competitors. Special promotions and senior discounts are standard, just ask. Clermont Kitchen & Bath Design Center will beat any prices.

ollectables, antiques, primitives and vintage furniture from the early 1800’s to the 1960’s. If they don’t have it, Rex and Debbie Masterman will put it on the “wish list” and will try to make your dream come true!
This fabulous shop, located at 706 W. Main St in downtown Leesburg recently opened. It has a welcoming atmosphere with a delicious Café and coffee bar with plenty of space to browse through all of the fascinating pieces. Rex’s passion started with his visits to farm auctions in Indiana. He was always hauling something home! The couple has now been in the antique business for over 40 years and enjoys the experience of working with clients to find that special ‘something’ they have got to have. They also offer FREE delivery within a 25 mile radius. They first ventured into the area with another successful shop, “Another Look Consignment” located down the street. This building became available and the Masterman’s decided to put down roots instead of traveling to sell at shows. Rex finds his heirloom pieces at estate sales and auctions and even has his own Antique
Estate liquidation sale.
They have a wonderful business relationship with Sarah Rinne, who owns the café, and felt the pairing was a favorable one. They now offer a luncheon for groups with a FREE antique appraisal from a certified appraiser. To reserve a date call (352) 365-1717. To add to the ambiance, there are custom made silk arrangements by Karen Curley who has worked there for 11 years and she will make any design you have in mind for your home. Curley also offers demonstrations where she shares her knowledge as to how a decorator puts a piece together.

Spotlight - Jenkins Hyundai of Leesburg

Jenkins Hyundai of Leesburg

n his twenty-plus years in the automobile industry, Jason Kirkland has seen a lot of changes. Not only in the cars themselves, but in what customers are looking for when car shopping. Kirkland is the General Manager of Jenkins Hyundai of Leesburg. The high volume dealership sits on Hwy 441 in Leesburg on 6.6 acres and boasts a 27,434 square foot showroom. “Today miles per gallon (mpg) is definitely a big consideration, but mainly people are looking at the price to value relationship, and Hyundai really delivers there,” Kirkland explains. The uncompromising quality of Hyundai vehicles make it easy for

the manufacturer to stand by their product. They raised the bar when they introduced “America’s Best Warranty,” which is a 10-Year/100,000-Mile Powertrain Warranty. Their Certified Pre-Owned Program (CPO) provides warranty protection for those who purchase a previously owned Hyundai less than five years old with under 60,000 miles. The pre-owned vehicles are thoroughly inspected by a Hyundai factory trained technician to ensure the vehicle meets Hyundai’s standards for performance and appearance. Both new and CPO Hyundai automobiles come with 24-Hour Roadside Assistance. To further illustrate their confidence, Hyundai has recently introduced the “Hyundai Assurance Plan.” At the time of purchase of a new car, the customer is provided with the guaranteed future value of the car at 24 months to 48 months old. If the customer decides to trade in this vehicle for another Hyundai during the 24th month to 48th month of ownership, the car is then assessed for current fair market value. This amount is then compared to the guaranteed value they were given at time of purchase and the customer receives
the higher amount as their trade-in credit. Jenkins Hyundai of Leesburg originally opened in 2005, and moved to its current location in 2007. They are ranked one of the top-selling Hyundai dealerships in the country. Owner, Donald Jenkins, has a total of five dealerships, with the others in Ocala and Bradenton. Kirkland has worked for Jenkins for twenty-one years, and notes the longevity of many of the other managers and sales people. In an industry that often sees a revolving door of employees, Kirkland credits the employee loyalty to the way Jenkins believes in doing business – with integrity. Jenkins puts a strong emphasis on customer service throughout the purchase and into the client’s ownership of the vehicle. “Here we believe in service after the sale,” Kirkland describes, “We like to fulfill our promises, even years down the road.” Customers appreciate this honest and straightforward approach to car sales and service, as demonstrated by the repeat business and referrals they provide. John McCann of Lady
Lake has purchased two Hyundai’s from Jenkins and has been completely satisfied with both the cars and the dealership. “They have very knowledgeable sales people,” McCann asserts, “Some places are only interested in selling vehicles. Here they tell you exactly what you are getting and have stood up to everything they said.” Jenkins Hyundai of Leesburg has over 1000 new and pre-owned vehicles to choose from. Test drive the enormously popular Sonata. This sleek and stylish car is LOADED, making it easy to see why it is a top seller! There is even a Hybrid model for the environmentally conscious customer. The Elantra and Accent have both been newly redesigned and are ready to impress. Hyundai takes luxury and class to a new level with the all-new 2011 Equus, which features a 385 Horsepower engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission. This magnificent machine will make you “Rethink everything you think you know about luxury cars.” To test drive your next vehicle, visit your Hometown Dealer – Jenkins Hyundai of Leesburg.

Keeping a positive Getting your mind in shape mental attitude before your body
article by: Hemant Hariprashad, National Training Center Exercise Specialist & Marathon/Half Marathon Training Program Coach don’t pay attention to them they will suck you in and they will start to get worse and worse. Try to start paying attention to your moods so you can avoid stepping into your emotional quick sand. If you sense that the ground is getting soft, your positive attitude is slowly fading away, try going in another direction. As soon as you start feeling your mood change, do something that will lighten you up or at least divert you. Take a walk, breathe deeply, play with your animals or kids. Do whatever is fun to you, smile, exercise, or read a good book. If you feel that you are about to sink into a bad mood don’t just let it happen, try to change it immediately.
D
spend time thinking about what you want to achieve you are more likely to get it than if you don’t mentally prepare first.
The first muscle to train is your mind. Many diet and exercise books focus on changing the appearance of the body. When such focus is placed on the external there tends to be a neglect of the internal causative factor, according to Dr Bret L. Emery. Individuals attempting to loose weight via traditional diet or exercise will gain back all the lost weight because the body is a reflection of the mind.
Make a list of reasons why you want to change your physique or fitness level. Your reason for change must be strong enough to get you through to your goal; this can be a source of renewed determination.
o you want to stay motivated and disciplined, but find it hart to resist the urge to skip workouts or eat junk food? Well, you may be suffering from a lack of positive mental attitude – PMA.
A person will get more out of their efforts if they take the time to focus on the reasons they are making these changes. Focus on the factors that prompted the change rather than the change itself. This will provide a constant source of inspiration and guidance. If you

A great start is to imagine what you want to achieve with your body, think about what your body will like; imagine how you will feel living in this body.
It is impossible for anyone to stay positive all the time, but it is certainly possible to keep a positive mental attitude most of the time if you pay attention to your mood. Many people are trapped in the common attitude of a victim nearly all the time. They are in a state of self pity, depression, anger or negativity that doesn’t feel good at all. Bad moods are like quicksand, if you
Our positive mental attitude makes it possible to persevere even when life seems overwhelming. Another component to a positive mental attitude is a sense of humor and laughter. It places you in a position of power to be able to find the humor or absurdity in a situation. This is part of the not sweating the small stuff mentality and letting go of those scenarios in life that we have no control over. Keeping a positive mental attitude, especially when faced with rejection or setbacks, will boost your self confidence. Whenever you find yourself thinking negative thoughts it is important to stop, refocus and replace those thoughts immediately with positive affirmation. Also taking a mental vacation when things feel overwhelming to regroup can liberate your mind and emotions and help you return to your tasks with renewed concentration and energy. Although it may take some time to adapt the habit of having a positive attitude, the long range impact of your success in life will not be determined by what happens to you but what you think about what happens to you and what you choose to do about it.

hiropractic, “the back pain doctor” is a statement that people can relate to, accept, and understand quite easily in our society. Let’s face it chiropractic is known as a back pain doctor and the impression most of us have is that only when you hurt your back you go to the chiropractor to get if fixed. Unfortunately for those people that only use chiropractic as a back pain fix are missing the real benefits of chiropractic. Yes, we do fix back pain, neck pain, and any other musculoskeletal aches and pain for that matter, and proven time and time again we happen to be the best at that, but it is only a “side effect” or reaction to the adjustments. Notice I used the term side effect which we automatically think of as a bad or negative reaction to a medication or treatment, but this is not a true definition, it is just a definition that is shaped by our society and mind set. The medical definition straight from Mosby’s Medical Dictionary, 8th edition. © 2009, Elsevier. “any reaction to or consequence of a medication or therapy. This means you can have treatments for a condition that have positive side effects. Wow, what an eye opener, you mean to tell me that certain medical treatments can have positive side effects? The answer is yes, and they are very attainable though what is labeled alternative medicine practices. These types of medical treatments take a holistic approach towards patients. Naturopathic doctors, acupuncturist, and especially Chiropractic but even some medical doctors today are moving more
towards a holistic approach. As a chiropractor we look at a person as a whole person and we do not treat symptoms we treat the problems that cause the symptoms. There are plenty of drugs out there that will treat your symptoms and turn off pain, nasal congestion, digestive problems, but these never fix the problem as many can attest to this. Chiropractic’s mission is to educate people on true health and wellness, to teach people to understand that there is an alternative to mainstream medical treatment, and you do not necessarily have to live in pain. Although there are not guarantees in any form of medical treatments Chiropractic has been proven time and time again to be the most successful treatment for many different ailments. It is not normal to have headaches, neck pains, lower back pain, chronic ear infections, digestive disorders, and even arthritis. My goal is to make a believer out of you! Together we can change Healthcare!

In addition to not damaging the rental home, the Tenant also has obligations: The Tenant must comply with all building, housing and health laws and keep the home clean and sanitary; remove garbage from the home; keep the plumbing clean, sanitary and in good repair; and when operating appliances, plumbing and electric items, the Tenant must do so in a “reasonable” manner. Most tenants are familiar with the “must” obligation to not
“disturb the peace.” Although neither the Landlord nor the Tenant may change the obligations for complying with the building, housing and health laws, commonly each agree to change their various rights and obligations by entering into a written agreement – the “Lease.” Tenant obligations pursuant to a Lease may include: garbage removal and fees; pest control; mowing the lawn; no sub-leasing, no painting, and no firearms. The Lease may also require the Tenant to make various repairs when items in the rental home break. Therefore, before signing a Lease, the Tenant must carefully read the Lease and understand her obligations and rights and the Landlord’s obligations and rights. Next month is part III of FLORIDA’S RESIDENTIAL LANDLORD TENANT LAW – “Lease Termination and the Security Deposit.” If you have an important legal issue that you would like addressed here please email us at info@GHLaw.com. hen it comes to rental obligations, residential tenants tend to fall into two categories: One, the most common Tenant, does not realize that she even has any “rights” and believes that the Landlord have few, if any obligations; Two, the Tenant who believes that she has lots and lots of “rights” and that she can withhold the payment of rent for just about anything. Each party, the Landlord and the Tenant, have obligations and rights. The Landlord’s obligations and the Tenant’s obligations and rights typically balance in between the two above categories. The following is a short summary of the Landlord and Tenant’s obligations. The law will impose various Landlord and Tenant obligations. These are the “Must” obligations. However, the Landlord and the Tenant can actually do away with many of the obligations by entering into a written agreement and many times, the Tenant is
left totally unaware that she has just signed away some of her rights and some of the Landlord’s obligations. Since the Landlord and Tenant can “agree” to changes, I am calling these Landlord obligations the “Can Be Changed” Landlord obligations. Landlord Obligations under Florida, the “Must” Landlord obligations: follow building, housing and health laws. If the rental home is in an area without such laws, then the Landlord must maintain the roof, windows, doors, floors, and all other structural components of the home in good repair and such components must also be able to handle normal forces. The Landlord must also keep the plumbing in reasonable working condition. “Good repair” and “reasonable working condition” do not mean “perfect.” Discrimination laws are also “must” Landlord obligations. Florida and Federal law prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin,

The Orlando Sentinel called the Sunday brunch the “Most Pleasant Dining Experience of the Year.” The Beauclaire is a winner of the Mystery Diner Five Forks commendation, Central Florida Magazine’s Reader’s Choice Award, and claimed second place in this year’s Taste of Mount Dora for the Seared Sea Scallop entrée.

he atmosphere of The Beauclaire can only be described as casual elegance. The charming dining room with its gentle curve of windows overlooking the Victorian tea garden combined with friendly, knowledgeable staff and fantastic AmericanSouthern fare invite you to sit back and relax in ambiance infused with history, romance, and good old-fashioned Southern hospitality. Restaurant and lounge manager Kristin Wright has been raising the bar at the service level for the last six months. Wright believes “service and consistency is the key,” and has improved the quality of the staff with wine and liquor education, menu testing, and an inscrutable attention to detail. She loves working with hotelier and inn owner Jim Gunderson who lives on property and dines at the restaurant almost daily. Wright fondly describes The Beauclaire as “hospitable, comfortable, and homey.” The quality of the cuisine is a perfect blend with the superb service and tasteful décor. There rages a great debate whether the

Baked Brie en Croute should be labeled an appetizer or dessert; either way, it is a heavenly Lakeside Inn tradition with Brie cheese wrapped in pastry with pecans, brown sugar, and garnished with raspberry coulis ($10). For lunch the Strawberry Spinach Salad may be a lighter fare made with grilled chicken, baby spinach, ripe strawberries, toasted pecans, dried cranberries, crumbled bleu cheese with raspberry vinaigrette ($13) but it holds its own against the inn’s most popular dish, the Chicken Pot Pie. Homemade from scratch with chunks of chicken and vegetables in a savory cream sauce topped with a golden-brown flaky crust, it is the ultimate comfort food, served with fresh fruit ($12). Folks drive for miles for the Southernstyle Monte Cristo Sandwich made with roasted turkey, smoked ham and Monterey Jack cheese, dipped in egg and deep fried golden brown, served with fresh fruit and raspberry sauce for dipping ($12). For dinner try the flavorful and tender Osso Bucco, pork shank slow roasted and served on a bed
of garlic Risotto, topped with a port wine demi-glaze ($24), or the sumptuous Baked Snapper Florentine, filet of snapper seasoned and topped with sliced plum tomatoes, fresh herb and olive oil, served on a bed of wilted spinach ($21). Witness a breathtaking sunset over Lake Dora with dining on the verandah. The Sunset Dining menu is available 4:30–6 PM Monday through Saturday and features a three-course meal, including soup or salad, entrée, and dessert ($14.95). Tremain’s Lounge offers lighter fare and happy hour
