American Kratom Association Consumer Alert on Adulterated Kratom Products By Focus Omaha

The American Kratom Association (AKA) is warning consumers not to purchase or use kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) products that are chemically altered, synthetic or synthetically enhanced kratom alkaloids, such as 7- hydroxymitragynine (7-HMG). In addition, the AKA urges consumers to not use kratom products with an alkaloid profile that is substantially disproportionate to that which is present in the natural plant. AKA is specifically concerned about reports that kratom vendors are marketing products containing a level of 7- HMG that is greater than 2% of the total alkaloid composition of the product.

Marketing of kratom products that attempts to convince a consumer that they should purchase a specific kratom product versus a competitor’s product based on a higher concentration of MG or 7-HMG, and making claims of “strength” based on the “massive concentration” of the alkaloids and the enhanced “effects” of their product, is of significant concern to the AKA.

Getting to Know The Music of The Movies: Ennio Morricone By Jesse D. Stanek

Some soundtracks do the trick during the film but then fall flat when listened to with a closer ear, when played on the home stereo as the main object of focus. Italian born composer Ennio Morricone’s work rarely if ever falls into this dubious category. Since 1946 Morricone has composed over 400 scores for the screen, both television and film. If you search him on IMDB you’ll come across more than 70 award-winning films with compositions scored by Morricone: “The Untouchables,” “Fistful of Dollars,” “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly,” and “Once Upon A Time in the West” among the better known. He has sold over 70 million albums to date. The man is a legend when it comes to scoring film and nobody really does it quite like him. Best known for his work in hundreds of “spaghetti-westerns,” Morricone’s songs capture the moods eloquently, gunfights on dusty streets, tumbleweeds bumping down the trail, a grizzled face squinting into the burning Sun, Morricone’s work brings visual stories to life, adding subconscious emotion to strengthen the film’s narrative. The beautiful thing about Morricone’s soundtracks is they work just as well without the film, adding color, life, and vibrancy to the everyday. Much of his work would be a perfect dinner party soundtrack, subtly beautiful, never overpowering but always unique and flavorful. Morricone has worn many different hats throughout a career dating back to just after the Allied bombing of Dresden in WWII: producer, composer, orchestrator, conductor, and musician. The man knows music, just inherently feels it and probably brushes his teeth with the melodic minor scale. The period from 1960 to 1975 is when Morricone first gained international attention for his scores accompanying a plethora of Western films. Among his best-known compositions are “Man with a Harmonica,” “Se Telefonando,” and “Gabriel’s Oboe,” and while the titles surely don’t ring a bell for most, many of you with a novice’s interest in film will recognize the melodies. You’ll know the mood and the strength of the music will help you with the

visuals. He primarily worked in an orchestral capacity, creating gigantic pieces of music with many layers and intricate progressions, dozens of the world’s most accomplished musicians playing together to bring the great man’s vision to life. Subtle gentle moods and soaring climaxes find equal footing in Morricone’s work. “Gli Intoccabili (Machine Gun McCain) is one of my favorite Morricone records to have on around the house, it’s a great soundtrack for eating my cereal and vacuuming. It works perfectly in accompaniment to the many exciting things I do. The orchestral numbers are mostly slow and daunting, occasionally interrupted by upswings in mood and timing, eventually settling back down into musical think pieces, songs for the wandering mind and restless soul. I haven’t been able to find “Gli Intoccabili” as a complete download but the pleasantly compiled “Ennio Morricone Chill Out: Vol. 2” has the title cut along with a few others from the soundtrack for the 1969 Italian crime film. The compilation also features standouts from the films “Viaggio con Anita” and “The Widow.” It’s a great introduction to the universe of Ennio Morricone, a splattering of musical moods with notable dexterity and range. In short, it won’t bore you or your esteemed dinner guests.

almost-birdlike whistling and “wa-wha-whawa” that open the soundtrack to the final strings bleeding out into the desert night, everything about this project is first-rate. Some of the music may seem semi-campy at first, however, a further listen reveals the sounds that came to define western movies through modern times. There hasn’t been a western soundtrack scored in the last 50 years that didn’t make note of Morricone’s work on this one. The music is at times virile, fiery and passionate, rustic and ominous at others; this is the high-water mark of Spaghetti-Western music. Another recent collection, “Spaghetti Western (The Original Masters)” does a great job of compiling Morricone’s work within this iconic idiom, featuring compositions from the above-mentioned soundtrack as well as from works like “For a Few Dollars” and “Once Upon a Time in the West.” The streaming sources are full of Morricone’s work and he continues to score films, releasing the beautifully subdued Soundtrack for “Wisdom and Beauty” this year. For a solid Ennio vibe, the moody soundtrack for a low-key evening, I love the “Christmas Chill Out Lounge” compilation. There aren’t any Christmas songs on the collection, at least the classic carols we’re all sick of, it’s just over an hour of simple musical mastery, thought-provoking music, a little something out of the ordinary.

The collection is tastefully put together and brilliantly showcases the depth to his work. A further benefit of having Morricone score your personal soundtrack is everything you do, from putting away the clean dishes to flossing your chompers sounds kind of epic. Morricone is a master of supplying mood for the mundane. Creighton – The rematch was over in a hurry as the Jays took an early lead and topped Nebraska 10-2 in a Tuesday game at Hawkes Field in Lincoln. Jake Holton’s two-run shot in the top of the first set the pace and CU held the Huskers scoreless as NU was held to three base runners in the first six innings. CU locked up the series with a 7-5 win in the opener of Saturday’s doubleheader. Will Robertson took a first-frame, first pitch out of the park for a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and the Jays added five runs in the fifth to get the win. They settled for a series win when Butler took a 5-0 win in game three. CU (19-8, 2-1 Big East) was limited to five hits and a walk. They return to the field on Thursday in New Jersey for the first of three against Seton Hall.

But before we start shouting about the Huskers leading the Big Ten standings, we also must recognize, at least so far, who they’ve done it against. Not one of the three teams they’ve swept (partially due to their three losses to Nebraska) are anywhere close to or were even before heading into the series against the Huskers of being at the top of the Big Ten standings. When we read between the lines, it’s also important to note Nebraska left 28 runners stranded in three games against Penn State, and after scoring 39 runs in wins against the underachieving Boilermakers (5-6 Big Ten) who finished second last year in the regular season, the Huskers only managed 10 runs in the entire series against the (1-10 Big Ten) Nittany Lions. While the Huskers have every reason to be excited about finding a way to win three games on the road against anyone, largely due to a continuation of excellent defense they’ve been showing for the last two seasons, they’re going to have to pull it all together for their upcoming matchups against Big Ten teams currently with winning records which will include Northwestern (5-4 Big Ten), Michigan (5-3 Big Ten) and the upcoming series at Iowa (7-5 Big Ten) which starts on April 19. At least for now, we can bask in the glory of first place. And for a team that didn’t even make the conference tournament last year, the current turnaround is definitely a job well done.

Remember to keep your personal and financial information private and be vigilant so you don’t end up becoming the victim of a tax scam. For more information on tax scams visit irs.gov. The IRS recently issued its annual list of tax scams. The list highlights various scams that taxpayers may encounter, many of which occur during tax filing season. Here are some of the scams that are highlighted on the list:

Phishing

Phishing scams usually involve unsolicited emails or fake websites that pose as legitimate IRS sites to convince you to provide personal or financial information. Once scam artists obtain this information, they use it to commit identity or financial theft. The IRS will never initiate contact with you by email to request personal or financial information. This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media.

Phone scams

Phone scams typically involve a phone call from someone claiming you owe money to the IRS or that you’re entitled to a large refund. The calls may show up as coming from the IRS on your Caller ID, be accompanied by fake emails that appear to be from the IRS, or involve follow-up calls from individuals saying they are from law enforcement. Sometimes these callers may even

Groups sometimes pose as charitable organizations in order to solicit donations from unsuspecting donors. Be wary of charities with names that are similar to more familiar or nationally-known organizations. Before donating to a charity, make sure that it is legitimate. The IRS website has tools to assist you in checking out the status of a charitable organization.
