Once a private boathouse for Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the venue is now a stylish restaurant and bar, with a lovely waterside terrace that is the perfect place to recline and laze away an afternoon while enjoying a refreshing tipple in the sun. The offering is extensive and includes breakfast, brunch and an all-day à la carte menu, complemented by a great drinks selection. This includes a range of 2-for-1 cocktails, which are served all day, every day. If you’ve attended Eat Drink Bristol Fashion and loved it, then you’ll fall head over heels for the Yurt, as the same guys run it. Yurt Lush’s menus are created by head chef Oscar Davis and Josh Eggleton (chef patron of the Michelin-starred Pony & Trap) and always offer fresh, vegetarian dishes. Their spiced chickpea burger is renowned as one of the best around and there’s a great salad bar to get stuck into at lunchtime. Not an issue. In fact, most Bristolian veggies and vegans will direct you to Pepenero if you’re after somewhere with an almost excessive amount of choice. They have a whole menu of vegan pizzas, including the amazing Vegan Fest that comprises mozzarella-style cheese, tomato, aubergine, courgette, pepper, rashers, cheatin’ ham, onion and olives. The vegetarian menu is separate to the vegan menu, so there’s even more choice. These guys do cater for meat-eaters too, so it’s a great all-round eatery, and one where you can also order pudding. If you have a sweet-tooth, you absolutely have to try the Nutella pizza. Order your pizza to be delivered, or head down to The Beer Emporium on King Street or the Full Moon Bar in Stokes Croft to enjoy your wood-fired pizza with a beer.

Walk up the spiral metal staircases to a laid-back café restaurant (complete with cycling paraphernalia hanging from the rafters) and an outdoor terrace. While catering for all tastes, Mud Dock always has stand-out veggie dishes on offer. Their halloumi burger with Portobello mushrooms and chutney is lip-smackingly good. There’s also a popular Mexican bean burger. The Mud Dock predominantly features regularly changing specials, displayed on chalkboards around the restaurant; you’ll always find veggie options to tickle your fancy. With twinkling lights, candlelit tables and one of the best views in Bristol, Mud Dock is the perfect spot for an intimate meal for two.

We have three in Bristol to choose from, all with their own unique charm, yet the same health-conscious ethos. The Better Food Company is all about sustainable, local and organic produce and is just the place to go to stock up on your veggies. The cafés are fantastic for scrumptious, wholesome breakfasts and lunches. There are always plenty of freshly made sandwiches, salads and snacks to take away, but you’ll soon find yourself tempted to settle down with a coffee and lunch, or a mid-morning snack. At the Wapping Wharf café there are vegan sharing boards, veggie full English breakfasts and loads of tasty flavours of hummus. There are plenty of power points and USB chargers so you can bring your laptop and get some work done. The Better Food Company is an institution on Whiteladies Road and, as well as being a mecca for those who love their vegetables, they always have something gluten-free on offer. The Vivaldi, for example, is a cheesy beauty of mozzarella, Gorgonzola, Brie and provelone with oregano and red onion. Adagio will soothe with a fresh medley of goat’s cheese, olives, fresh cherry and sundried tomatoes, spring onions and a final flourish of rocket, while the C Minor is perfect for those with an appetite – this hearty calzone comes stuffed with ricotta, mozzarella, spinach, red and yellow peppers, and is finished with a drizzle of rosemary oil, oregano and fresh basil. The restaurant itself is intimate and always buzzing, as it’s a popular place – it’s well worth making the trip to Totterdown for.

The Ironworks is known for their cocktails, coffee and live music, and their veggie offering is similarly rocking. Breakfasts, open toast and bagels are in abundance and portions are generous; head down for brunch and some of the best coffee in Bristol. For veggies and vegans, there’s plenty on offer throughout the day. Try the smashed avocado with marinated feta on toast, and we suggest adding a poached egg – it’s dreamy. Or tuck into a breakfast burrito made with your own choice of fillings. Pizzas at the Ironworks are thin, crispy and the Vegan’s Vengeance is heaven – sourdough base covered in spicy ratatouille and topped with mushrooms, pine nuts, crispy kale, parsnip crisps and cumin hummus. The emphasis here is on Asian street food and you’ll find vegan- and veggie-friendly options, such as veg dumplings, known as gyoza, tofu katsu curry and jam-packed vegan bibimbaps, complete with homemade gochujang Korean chilli sauce. What’s more, Tuk Tuck is pocket-friendly; you won’t find much for over £7. Feeling peckish on the way home? Whiteladies road Wander up the hill from Clifton Triangle and you’ll find yourself traversing the well-worn path up Whiteladies Road. It’s a well-known hotspot for shopping – here you can browse furniture shops, peruse galleries, find a new outfit, and window-shop for that million-pound Clifton property you’ll be moving into just as soon as you graduate. BOSCO PIZZERIA The story... When Bosco was set up it was with the intention that everything was to be made in-house, right down to the pizza dough. The team spent time testing out different recipes, and the results are utterly mouthwatering. Handmade dough is left to prove for 48 hours before being hand-stretched to order and then cooked in the wood-burning oven for just two minutes at a whopping 400 degrees. This process gives a deliciously light base with a puffy and ever-so-slightly blistered crust.

Banksy painted his famous Grim Reaper on the steel hull, which can now be seen in the M Shed museum.
