Road Trip(s)—a photo essay in B&W

By Christine Cutler

I can’t count how many times I’ve driven crosscountry—usually east-west (or vice versa) but also north-south (and viceversa). Sometimes I’ve driven alone (except for my child and my dog), and other times I’ve been in the passenger seat as my husband mans the wheel. Some of the journeys have been one-way and due to moves, but over the last 11 years, we’ve headed Las Vegas to Virginia or, most recently, Florida to visit our son and daughter-in-law. Driving 2400+ miles one way got old fast, and last year, we decided to move from closer to them and bought a condo in Florida .

After spending the holidays there last year, we drove back to Las Vegas to get ready for the move. Never ones to make it easy, though, we

drove from St. Petersburg to London, Ohio, to Las Vegas—about 3500 miles in total—in five days. “We’re never doing that, again,” we said as we limped out of the car.

Famous last words, as they say. In October, we loaded up a Penske truck and headed from the desert to the bay for the last time. The ultimate road trip. (Or so we think.)

(Please note: Most of these photos I took from the window of our car as we flew by during a few of our final cross-country trips.
