Expect to be dazzled and delighted as professional and community performers from around the globe capture your imagination, wow you with their skills and escort your dropped jaw through the streets of Belfast.

Festival of Fools is a registered charity and entirely dependent on the tremendous support we receive from organisations and individuals. Sincere thanks to each and every one of our supporters and sponsors, particularly Arts Council Northern Ireland and Belfast City Council.

2019

Each year, Festival of Fools audiences total over 40,000, with most people seeing around eight free shows each. Did you know that the money you put in the hat at the end of each show goes directly towards next year’s Festival? Please dig deep, give generously and help us to keep Festival of Fools free for all, thank you.

I look forward to sharing my first of many Festival of Fools with you. It’s my pleasure to welcome you to Festival of Fools, 2019. This year’s programme is jam-packed full of the best local and international circus and street arts talent.

Thank you for supporting our work, now go and enjoy the shows! Jenna Hall Chief Executive

Festival Team Festival of Fools is only possible because of our fantastic volunteers rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck in. You’ll see them at the performance venues doing audience surveys, passing round the hats for donations and assisting the performers. Please be nice to them, and if they ask you to do a survey, go on, treat yourself.

Ugo Sanchez Jr Rio Boom Boom Italy

SUNDAY 5 MAY 2pm Castle Place 4pm St Anne’s Square MONDAY 6 MAY 2pm Castle Place 4pm St Anne’s Square

The audience are at first powerless, then protagonist, as they are drawn into the bizarre imagination of Ugo Sanchez Jr. Just like real life, tragedy and comedy live together in this irrational world. This master jester provokes and jokes, captivates and challenges. And sometimes plays the ukelele.

any

Transfiguro is a beautifully inventive poetic journey into the fantastic. Using her own body as her main prop, Anita Bertolami creates a charming array of characters, and brings them to life in front of the audience. Every new personality takes on a life of its own; a cheeky figure made of hair performs vanishing tricks, surprising itself just as much as the audience; a big-eyed lady bakes up a storm; and a belly wants to prove its strength. With their curious charm, these figures invite the audience into a non-verbal realm of the fantastic.
