Foothills Research Institute

Since 1992, the Foothills Research Institute (formerly the Foothills Model Forest) has been conducting applied research on the cultural, ecological, economic and social values of Alberta’s forested landscape. Over our history, we have also worked with our partners on initiatives that contribute to integrated resource management. The Foothills Research Institute is in its fourth five-year business cycle (2007-2012). To help grow knowledge, transfer technology and foster informed decision-making, Foothills Research Institute will focus on the following five theme areas: Landscape dynamics; Wildlife; Water; Forest communities; Data, information and knowledge management A priority of our organization and programs is knowledge transfer. We will continue to work with our partners to best ensure that our knowledge and tools are applied in resource management policy, planning and practice.
