Hello! I’m Cassie, the creator of this wonderful publication. Last summer I was offered an internship at Force-7, a youth marketing agency. Since starting I have learn a whole bunch of new stuff when it comes to design tips and tricks. My internship at Force-7 led to a full time job as Junior Creative, and this book demonstrates just a handful of skills I have learnt in Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign since starting out in the creative industry. I hope you learn, apply, and above all enjoy all it has to offer.

face swap
photoshop
1. Open the two photos you will be using - the Face Photo and the Body Photo. 2. Use the Lasso Tool on the Face Photo and roughly select the parts you wish to copy onto the Body Photo. 3. Paste the head onto the body and reduce the opacity to 40%. Rotate the head until the facial features match with the Body Photo face. 4. Use a soft eraser to blend the edges of the face. 5. Now move the Face Photo to the side so we can start adjusting the colours. To do this, add a Colour Balance adjustment (make sure you click the black/white circle icon so the colour only changes on the Face Photo, NOT the Body Photo). 6. Once the colours are looking good, add a Vibrance Adjustment layer and bring the saturation down a touch. 7. Once your happy with the colour place the Face Photo back in place and re touch as needed. And you’re done! Time taken to complete tutorial: 1.15 mins Time taken to complete example: 1 hour

drawing a map
illustrator
1. Create a variety of lines by using the ‘Line Tool’ (\). Thicker lines indicate motorways, and thinner lines represent smaller roads and streets. Just bear this in mind when creating the weight of your lines. 2. Add an additional line on top of your existing line and change to either to a different colour for motorways and main roads or to white for smaller roads. TIP - make the white line slightly longer than the line underneath as this will help when connecting the roads together as you draw them. (You can also create roundabouts simply by using the Ellipse Tool) 3. Select the line and click the brush tool. Click the ‘New Brush’ button and select art brush. Make sure that the lines are running the correct way and click OK. 4. Create a new brush for each of you’re roads. 5. Now you’re ready to start drawing you’re map! Select the ‘Pen Tool’ and start drawing away. Time taken to complete tutorial: 1 hour Time taken to complete example: 2 hours

1. Go to Image > Adjustment > Highlights and Shadows and set to 10 and 40 (this maybe slightly different depending on your photo) 2. Go to Filter > Convert for smart filters (this will act as a mask for when you want to sharpen your photo) 3. Go to Filter > Sharpen > Unsharpen masks. Set this to roundabout 60, 2 and 0 (again it may change slightly). 4. Add a Colour Balance layer to the photo - adjust so there is less red in the face and slightly more yellow. 5. Use a black brush to remove the mask from the background, then create a New Layer > Overlay. 6. Use a soft brush with a 10% opacity and use white to go over the highlights and black to go over the shadows. 7. Add a Curves adjustment layer, placing one point at the top, one in the middle and one on the bottom. Drag these until your photo is looking good! 8. Add a Hue and Saturation adjustment layer, and desaturate slightly. Use the black brush to go over the lips so these are still colourful (if you add a Black& White adjustment layer, increase the magenta and blue and decrease the yellow and red!) DRAWING SWIRLS
illustrator
1. Draw two circles, then using the Blend Tool, select both circles. This will join the two circle together creating the start of the swoosh. 2. To alter the options go to Object > Blend > Blending Options. These should be set to Specified Distance 1px, Align to Path. 3. The swoosh doesn’t look very interesting at the moment, so use the pen tool to draw the spine of the swirl you would like. Select the spine shape and select the original swoosh. Go to Object > Blend > Replace Spine. 4. You can also use the Swirl Tool to draw a swirl, and use this to Replace the Spine as well. 5. Another way of drawing the swirls would be to draw an Arc using the Arc Tool. Select the arc and go to Object > Path > Outline (this will make the line into a shape. Use the Direct Select Tool to drag out the outline and create a shape. Draw a circle to join the two together. 6. Practice and play about with these and create the patterns however you like! creating a document
indesign
Time taken to complete tutorial: 30 minutes
1. Open document, clicking facing pages and creating a bleed of however much you think you will need around the edge of the layout. 2. To get the pages to sit next to each other, click ‘ Allow Document pages to shuffle. 3. Create a frame and apply a colour to the frame so you know what is going where. It could be a space for an image for example. Object > Lock so that it will not move and nothing will be added to the frame. 4. Drag any image you wish onto the Indesign file and click just off from the page for it to be placed. Click S to scale the image to the size you wish. 5. MISSING FONTS - Find the font yourself, or replace the font with whichever font you wish. 6. You can drag a text file into the Indesign document, which you can then edit. 7. TEXT WRAP - to wrap text around a photo that has a background on is tricky. Click Wrap Around Object Shape. This will have a funny effect on everything in the document, but as soon as you change the setting from Same As Clipping to Alpha Channel, everything will shift back into place - and your text will have wrapped around the image nicely! 8. You can change the number of columns on the top right hand corner

REFINE EDGES
photoshop
1. Use the Quick Selection Tool to grab most of the edges around the photo you would like to delete (it won’t look great, but stick with it as best as you can!) 2. Go to Refine Edge at the top of the screen. You will be able to see the image you are editing on different backgrounds to determine how well the edges have been selected (they won’t look great at the moment). 3. Turn on Smart Radius under Edge Selection. Bump up the pixels slightly (you will see it will improve, but not by much!) 4. Now use Refine Radius Tool (selected by default) and start painting over the areas you would like to delete. As soon as you let go of the mouse, you will notice it will start subtracting the parts of the image you don’t want. 5. Some of the background colour may reflect into areas you wish to keep. Turn on the Denominate Colours and bump up the slider. Then bump down the Shift Edge a little and you will notice it will look much better. 6. Select New Layer and Layer Mask and click ok. All done! USING THE MESH TOOL
illustrator
1. Open the image you wish to trace, and create a new layer. 2. Click cmd + mouse on the eye on Layer 2 to put it into outline mode. This will allow you to trace over your image easily (make sure you trace each element separately, for example here I have traced the apple body, the stalk and the leaf separately) 3. When you’ve done this, click the Mesh Tool and click inside the object you want to render. Use the lines to act as a guide as to where each spot of colour should go. 4. Select the Direct Selection Tool and click on the part of the image you want to render. You can select any colour you want, or use the Colour Picker Tool to pick up on the colour from your original image. ALWAYS USE THE DIRECT SELECTION TOOL FOR RENDERING. USING THE SELECTION TOOL WILL COLOUR THE ENTIRE OBJECT. Time taken to complete tutorial: 40 minutes Time taken to complete example: 30 minutes

The colours from your original image should then come through nicely, creating a hand painted effect on the image.
