Blue Skies Ahead
THE BLACK CLOUDS and storms, which were the turbulent times of 2020, seem to finally be passing and bright blue skies are ahead for the industry. There are still lingering effects, such as hiring workers, but overall the industry seems to be prospering yet again. The industry did not take a total nose dive, in terms of sales, as we were expecting. In this issue we explore the 2021 Top Contractor lists and report the survey results, some information might surprise you.
Overall, we can speculate that customers were hesitant to spend large amounts of money to have their pavements totally replaced. One segment, pavement repair, did not see a huge drop in sales or percentage of work completed in this segment because customers might have felt more comfortable having repair work done rather than a whole mill and fill job.
We compare the findings year over year as well as between the segments. If we look back at last years list, the sales volume of contractors took a huge leap as large contractors were joining the list. Also, sales in 2019 were in part because of a good economy. 2020 sales might have been down due to economic uncertainty the Coronavirus pandemic had on the nation.
You might be thinking, where is the sweeping list? It is unfortunate we did not have enough companies fill out the survey to be included in this year's list. In fact, this will be the 9th year in a row we weren't able to compile an industry segment list for sweeping. Going forward, our hope is more sweeping contractors fill out the short survey to have a chance to be on a Sweeping Top Contractor List.
Take a look, there is a lot of facts and figures to digest and I would be curious if you are seeing the same thing the Top Contractors reported? My inbox is always open (droberts@acbusinessmedia.com).
