Jamaican Hohnke

Why and how did you choose your stage name? My stage name and real name is Jamaicain Hohnke...When i started rapping, I figured I couldn't make up a better name than the one I already had, so I just decided to be myself How did you get started? I wrote my fiancĂŠe a song, and she fell in love with it. It was at that point that she urged me to do more, and I responded with a mixtape within the first month of rapping. One of the songs on this mixtape caught the eye of Slip n Slide Records, who featured me as an upcoming artist on their On Da Grind Program. What makes you unique as an artist? There is no other Jamaicain Hohnke. My name, style, appearance, and lyrics are something not heard in hip hop right now. Add to the fact that I have an amazing woman who not only raps and sings w me, but is also my manager and wife, and you have the ingredients for the hottest live show in swfl List all your accomplishments so far in your career: Featured Artist on Slip n Slide's On Da Grind program, Opening act for Slick Rick in Orlando last spring, Performed at a Television taping for 16 Bars at Club Level in Fort Myers, Won MR Slept on at The Limelight Showcase Series in Fort Myers, and currently featured on Pass The Torch Mixtape with Rick Ross and Busta Rhymes, and Coast to Coast Mixtape Volume 153. Why do you feel the game needs you? Because i can bridge gaps, and bring people together. Also because I'm a real person who cares about helping others as much as promoting myself. I will always grind, and stay true, and because of that, I AM hip hop

Gutta Slim

Why and how did you choose your stage name?

How would you define SUCCESS?

I actually got my name from the streets!!!! Older cats in the hood use to call me “Gutta” because I was a bad growing up getting into everything I could get into. ...and “Slim” I mean that’s just self explanatory..

Success is when u have a goal and your going to do anything and everything to get to where you want to be. In other words I feel like the definition of my own success would be when I not only have made my dream into a reality but when I'm also helping other people just like me make their dream a reality.

How would you describe your music? Gutta, Real, and crunk with a new kinda swag.

Why music?

How did you get started?

Because music to me is my outlet to be able to get a lot off my mind not only about the things I'm going through I always had a passion for music but I never really thought about making a career out of it until a year ago I today but the things I have gone through in my life and was sitting behind a cell thinking that GOD had a purpose things that I see other people going through on an everyday basis in my kind of neighborhood. And just simply for me and jail wasn’t it….SO after I got out of jail I started putting my life on paper and then I realized how because I love music. big my talent really was and its been nothing but grinding List all your accomplishments so far in your career: ever since. I have released 2 mixtapes “Put it in Ya Life” and my new If you had the opportunity to change something about mixtape “Im Da Man Now” , I opened up for JT Money the music industry, what would it be? and Why? who is a legend and I look up to him so that was a big accomplishment for me, I have done a number of shows BEEF..The fact that rappers are beefing so much when not only in fort myers but also in Tampa, Orlando, really we are all here to do the same thing and we all Bradenton, Naples, and Kissimee FL. I have done collabs have different kinds of talent to bring to the table so with artist from Georgia and also other big upcoming instead of beefing we could all come together with all artist in Florida. I was also in the September issue of The that energy and take the hip hop game over. Florida Magazine. My fan base is growing everyday from What has been your motivation to grind as hard as you all of the networking sites I have created for myself indo? cluding Facebook, Myspace, Reverbnation, Datpiff, Youtube, Team Bigga Rankin, last.fm and etc. My struggles. I want the world to know what I’ve been through or what I have seen happen and most of all I What has been your greatest memory so far in your want to get my family out of the hood and enjoy the music career? good life and don’t have to worry about where the next Opening up for JT Money he is somebody I look up to and meal is going to come from or how were going to pay I was honored to be able to open up for him. rent that month What makes you unique as an artist?

Why do you feel the game needs you?

“My Swag” SIMPLE!!!! Not only could I drop bars, or spit lyrics, I bring that same swag on stage and create a hellafied show whether there's one person or 1000 people in the audience I'm going to still shut it down.

Because I feel like I can give it to them from different angles from the streets, to the club, to the bedroom. I just got a different swag that I feel the world should know about.

How and why did I choose my stage name? Lol... To make a long story short, Sweetie is the name that he gave me. I'ma leave it at that. lol. How did you get started in music? Well writing comes naturally and it's how I get things off of my chest. I had a situation and I wrote about it. I let one of my people hear for it and they encouraged me to get in the booth. The rest is history.

Why Music? Music is self expression for me. Whatever is on my mind I put it in a song. So there can never be a misunderstanding about how I feel. If there are any questions, I don't have to constantly explain so that anyone would understand. They can just hit repeat. Simple.

With the rise of groupie being made famous, how can What has been the biggest challenge for you so far? an artist avoid getting caught up in that lifestyle? I would say not knowing which route to take. I know what Keep your circle small. Nowadays, it's not only groupies I want to do, it's taking the steps to get it done that is that snake you out, it's the ones you keep close also. You mind boggling. I'm learning as I go. just have to be extra careful and be able to hold your own with whatever you do just in case your business ever What would you like to change about the music indus- does get out. try? I know they say sex sells, but if you have good music, you What has been your greatest memory so far in your muhave good music. If your music is garbage then sooner or sic career? later no matter how much skin you show, your record My greatest memory... LOL... Someone made a big deal sells will paint a better picture and speak volumes. on Facebook about an underground female artist who was taking off on a song and he posted my lyrics. Even What’s your motivation? though he was off on some of them, he posted my lyrics. My son. I want to be able to lead by example when I tell I show everybody love that shows me love, so I menhim he can do whatever his heart desires, no matter how tioned his name in one of my songs. crazy anyone else may think it is. Also, every time someone hears one song they either tell me to let them know when I finish my cd or they ask me when I'ma do another song. If you could collab with anyone in the world, who would you choose and why? Aw man... As far as the females, Nikki and Trina. I think we have different styles. Nicki is extremely creative with her word play, Trina is a "tell it how it is" type chick, and being blunt, I have a smart ass mouth. Male artists... some of everybody. It's hard to choose. Drake, Luda, Trey Songz, Wayne, T.I... Just to name a few. Define Success: To me Success is not stopping once you reach your goal but always aiming higher to accomplish more.

What are your songs mostly based on? My songs are based on things my friends or I have gone through and are going through. Every song is personal. I can't write what I can't relate to or haven't experienced first hand or through someone else.

The game needs me because I think more people can relate to me more than someone talking about money they've never had or places they've never been. Myspace.com/TheRealSweetie Reverbnation/Sweetie Twitter.com/239Sweetie

Young Trump

Why and how did you choose your stage name? I was 17 in a juvenile program there was this nigga there that made beats on the outs. I would write songs and he would make a beat for it by beating on the table. When I was rapping everyone would gather around and have my songs memorized, even the staff. Then people started noticing that all I talked about was money. A few real niggas I was cool with started calling me Donald Trump. So I took the Donald off and wa-la!

What has been your motivation to grind as hard as you do?

When I first started out all I wanted to do was make music. As a man now, I realized that everybody doesn't make it. It takes alot of dedication and hard work because it's not as easy as everyone thinks it is, but what motivates me is to get out of my situation and to have the things I've always wanted but couldn't have. In the future when I have kids I want to give them the things I never had when I was growing up. To be able to give my girl every How would you describe your music? thing she could ever want because I know if she could she I describe my music as truth and my actual personality. I would do the same for me. I have plenty homeboys who don't tell lies in my music to be accepted like other artists are convicted felons that can't get a job so all they know is the streets. I want to provide jobs for them because do. I respect real shit coming from anybody. the government ain't gonna do it because they don't give a fuck about us. How long have you been in the music game? I started writing poetic lyrics around the 6th grade. I started turning it into music around the 9th grade, but I only shared my music with the people closest to me because I wasn't all that good yet.

How did you get started? I started recording on a cassette karaoke machine. I recorded over my mom's tapes. She was always yelling at me because she was missing tapes I still don't think she knew what I was doing with them.

Are you currently signed with a label or management team? Who? How long they been established? What other artists are on that team? I am not signed with anybody, I just know alot of people. I mostly deal with the people I came up with. Neal Boi ENT, Rascal, Papito, Kenny Mann, two3nine ENT, my girl for helping me do all this music shit.

What are your songs mostly based on?

My music is based on my personality. Its Music me and my niggas smoke to and ride to. If I feel like setting a statement then I'll make it known. I say the word "real" What has been the biggest challenge for you in music so alot in my songs because I'm a real nigga not to be confar? fused with a gangsta or a thug because I keep it real. I The biggest challenge in music so far is keeping your eyes respect real shit. open because being a local artists is fucked up. Dealing with all of the people trying to use you and not giving you a chance because they've never heard your music before. What is the most satisfying part of being in the music Another big challenge I have is to keep pushing because industry? I'm just a regular person like everybody else. I have a perSo I can say whatever the fuck I want to say because I sonal life and I have problems just like the next person. Sometimes it's hard to do music when I have things going love speaking my mind. I can get paid for doing someon in my personal life and dealing with people that althing that I love doing. When I think of music I see an ways have something to say. That's why in this business I opportunity. have to have this attitude like "fuck you" because if I didn't I would go crazy worrying about what a bih thinks about me.

Why music? I chose music because I was a bad ass child. I get together with my big cousins and they still sit around reminding me how bad I was. So I needed something positive to distract me. I played sports for a little but that didn't work for me. I wasn't serious about anything until I found music.

What is the biggest misconception people have about rappers and other musicians? People think that just because artists do features together that they're friends but really it's a business, a crazy ass business.

What has been your greatest memory so far in your music career? Joe Mobley was hosting an open mic showcase at Cachet and that was the first showcase I won. The greatest feeling I had was when I first heard "Pill Popper" on the underground station. I won the "Be Heard" showcase. I was the first week's winner of the limelight showcase. Also, winning this spot. Shout out to Ford Magazine. Reverbnation.com/YoungTrump239

How would you define SUCCESS? I Define Success as Fulfilling your Definite of Purpose in Life. My main Purpose is to ensure financial security for my family and their families. When I can call My Mom up and tell her to quit her jobs, then I will know that I’m Official Successful…

Are you currently signed with a label or management team? Who? How long they been established? What other artists are on that team?

With the rise of groupie tell all blogs, books and websites, how can an artist avoid being caught up in that part of the lifestyle?

I am currently signed and representing Flava Entertainment. We were officially established in May of 2010 and have built from three original artists to six in total. Flava Entertainment is One Family which consists of: Tr3, Gutta Slim, N8, Kim Cartelle, Ashleagh Suber, Myself, and our Manager Lady Flava…

All artists have a personal life that comes with a professional career and it’s Important for them to balance the both. The only way to avoid being “caught up” is to live your life how you want to be represented by the public eye. Every artist has to realize that every move they make is subject to criticism from the Public Eye regardless of their status…

What are your songs mostly based on? All My songs and lyrics are based on life experience and Dreams. I Think it’s important to believe in your dreams and to put them into realization. A lot of my positive life experiences have come from foreshadowing my Life through Music…

If music was not an option, what other profession would you choose? If music was not an option I would be in the field of business and marketing. I’m an Entreprenuer at heart and am always making moves to secure stability for my family…

What is the most satisfying part of being in the music industry?

List all your accomplishments so far in your career:

A big issue in Musik now is that everyone is starting to become a Artist or a home engineer. With the introduction of new technology the average person has the access to a professional studio at their finger-tips, the only problem is everyone isn’t a Music Artist. A rapper and Music Artist are separated by consistency and dedication, anyone can make a track but it’s the True Art and certain individuals that stand out…

I feel the game needs me because I am a fresh new voice and look for a trend that is coming back to the South and spreading back into the popular airwaves. Get Down With Da Kennel -Jessica Jamz

on their projects. They realize we're a bunch of cool guys... and the relationship is built. Your new single "Dat's Wat I Do" is definitely taking off. Did you all plan for this or did it come as a surprise. Also, what went in to getting the feature? "Dat's What I Do" got over 10,000 downloads in about a day! We were all surprised! These are supporters making this happen for us, and that's powerful. We've been following the "Traavvy" movement for a while now, and when the opportunity presented itself in Atlanta, we all went hard in the studio together. What are the stand out cuts on the new DJ Drama mixtape?

Riding high on the success of their first single “Model,” which is now airing on MTV & On Demand, Da Kennel is a group steadily proving to have nothing but hits on their hands. With their newest release “Dat’s What I Do,” featuring Travis Porter and produced by Kennelboi Pizz of the FyaStartaz, this record is already labeled a certified hit by a number of DJ’s and industry insiders. FIRST LINE OF CONTACT: WHY THESE NUMBERS ARE IMPORTANT Being that the music industry stretches far and wide and keeps mostly non-traditional work hours, most lines of communication are kept open through emails and cell phones. People rarely have set office space or even a designated place where they always are so cars become offices and phones are seen as the first lines of contact. So, it is important that you choose a phone that has good reception, works in other parts of the country, and is assessable to be answered at all times of the day. I’ll never forget, a couple of years ago I was work-

Wendy made the call and instead of being met with a new artist on the other line, there was the operator telling us the number was temporarily disconnected. So that label never got the call and to this day will never know that someone who could have helped them immensely was trying to reach them all because someone didn’t take the necessary steps to make sure that their lines of communication were open the right way. This is how opportunities can pass you by easily. There are 100’s of stories in this industry where a phone call has changed lives. Don’t’ miss out on yours. Here are a couple of ways you can keep your lines of communication open. Check Your Voicemails:

ers. Coming from Atlanta, Georgia you can imagine how many wrapped vans we saw on our way down. After much license plate bingo and a steady barrage of great music, Wendy decided that the next wrapped van we saw she was going to call and meet with them in Tallahassee for a small consultation. Now, Wendy is someone whose time is very valuable and worth every penny so for her to say this, I just knew that for some indie label, Christmas

Just because you don’t know a number doesn’t mean it cant be somebody important. People kill me saying I’m not answering this number because I don’t know it. Now if you were ON, that would be seen as being different. It could be anybody a fan, a stalker, an angry ex girlfriend. But, when your trying to make it that stalker could be an A&R, that fan could be a label president, and that exgirlfriend could be a DJ.

Choose the Right Contact Person: I personally know artist who have had their buzz up and have had labels want to sign them but never did so because of their contact person. First impressions are always the best when you have the right person doing it. If you cant afford a manager ask a friend that’s responsible or someone that wants to see you win and wont let a rainy day dictate how they answer the phone and blow your $300k deal. KEEP YOUR PHONE IN SERVICE: The story I told before should be enough to tell you to keep your phone in service. You never know who could be trying to call. Contact Information: Make sure your contact information is correct on all of your marketing materials and also try hard to stay consistent with your phone numbers. To many numbers get frustrating to the point where some people just say forget it Lola Sims PR & Publicity Lolasims@gmail.com
