ACCESSORY TRENDS
Medieval inspired protective equipment Hand crafted embellishments add contrast to the technical nature and survivalist instinct. Raw materials and hardware is crafted for fashion and the material is left exposed. This trend is all about the balance of nature and innovation.

L.H. How old were you when you discovered your gift? A.J. I’ve been an artist all my life. My father told stories about how I’d always known how to hold a pen & scribble on paper before walking or talking! L.H. What was your first work of art? A.J. As a child I can remember a painting of a garden with a tall tree & bird sitting on a branch as a gift for my uncle. L.H. What style would you say your artwork is? A.J.. Post-contemporary and geometric style
“ I’ve been an artist all my life. “
L.H. Tell me about the process and what goes threw your head when starting a new project? A.J.. There is always a lot of preparation and organizing before I begin a new project. I begin sketching within my moleskins in order to get an idea of form and subject matter. Once I've gained a perspective of what I want, I make my outlines in pencil so that I have a concrete visual before going over it with ink. Inking takes a while depending on the size of the work and the amount of detail I plan to use. Lastly, after waiting a while for the ink to fully dry, I paint over in watercolor to give color and depth to the piece.
L.H I know many artist feel that their work is never done. Do you? A.J. As an artist, you're always your worst critic. You are so accustomed to looking at your own work that you can't comprehend what a stranger sees when they see it for the first time. This will never change. It's a constant struggle, but it comes with the creative package. Once you learn to embrace it, it isn't a problem anymore. It becomes a lifestyle. L.H. What brought you to Miami? A.J. Mostly the need to just leave island life to pursue a new adventure and build a career. There aren't as many opportunities for an artist in St. Vincent as there are in Miami.
“ I'm taking the milestones as they come “
L.H. Are you working on anything exciting now? A.J. For the past couple of months, I've been working on an A-Z Animal Series which I hope can end up becoming a coloring book L.H. What else is coming up for you? A.J. I was recently selected to showcase my illustrations for an art organization called Raw Artists. I'm pretty stoked to have my first big show after two years in Miami. I'm taking the milestones as they come. Never rush yourself, just go with the flow. Opportunities will arise when hard work is acknowledged!
L.H. Where can we find your work? A.J. Instagram is the easiest place to check out my work. My illustrations page is @anushajiandani and my photography page is @nushosaur. You can also check out my portfolio on my website:www.anushajiandani.squarespace.com.Â
NEW AGE CLASSIC: ADIDAS
ON THE RUN with the Last Dying King Follow the MC in an exclusive interview behind the scenes in Wynwood for the making of the Day Trippin music video shot at the Peter Tunney gallery by his wife & our editor-in-chief Mars Bason.
M.B. What inspires you in your freestyling? L.D.K The misunderstood world. I try to represent the balance and the unbalance of our humane & inhumane society so in return I am inspired by the world and all that it creates. M.B.. Is it something you feel sets you apart from writing musicians? L.D.K. Yes, because it is generated from a place that is more natural and not fabricated. It’s direct. M.B. What message do you hope comes across to your audience? L.D.K. That we don’t control the world but rather our actions controls the world.
“ We don’t control the world, but rather our actions “
M.B. What are your favorite type of beats? L.D.K. Emotional beats. With a lot of hidden instruments like violins or electric guitars.. M.B. Ever miss being back home in Oakland, California? L.D.K. All the time. I wish I could live there everyday of my life. M.B. How do you feel about the new Wynwood? L.D.K. I feel like it’s headed in a good direction. Only the future can tell what’s next until Basel 2015 of course.
M.B. Any collaborations coming up? L.D.K Nah, no collaborations this time around planning on a solo album.. M.B.. How is the editing process for a free stylist? L.D.K. Longer than people would imagine. Because you have to absorb and distribute the immediately criticize yourself because you came up with something else in less than five seconds that you feel would be better for the verse. M.B. Is it true you’ve been producing & editing all of your stuff lately? L.D.K. Yes, I’m really trying to get a feel for every part of my music.
“ Wynwood is my playground & that’s what Day Trippin is about “
M.B. Why Wywood for the Day Trippin video? L.D.K. It’s a playground. Day Trippin is all about having fun in my playground & Wynwood is that. It’s a place for artist to be free and collaborate. M.B. Anything coming up for you in the near future? L.D.K. Yes, I’m actually going to be performing at NYFW on our anniversary for MKD’ X Forever Young showcase! & an album in the works title Am I Next. M.B. Where can we find the video to & follow the tour? L.D.K. Instagram: _lastdyingking_ | YouTube: Last Dying King Oakland
