Good afternoon and welcome to Station Park for our first home game back in the SBSSWPL1. We welcomed a few new faces into the FClub family and the girls are settling in well. We have had a good pre season and worked hard and the girls are coming together well. Today we welcome Hibs Ladies to Station Park, it will be a tough game but one we are looking forward to, I hope you enjoy the game and thank you for your support!

Nicola

Welcome to Station Park today for the first home league game of the 2018 SBSSWPL1 campaign where we welcome Hibernian. We started our league campaign off well last week with a win against Hamilton Accies. In a fairly tight encounter I felt we played some good stuff at times and limited Hamilton to only a couple of half chances while we always looked a threat on the attack which pleased me. Today’s game will pose a very different proposition but we will approach the game in a positive manner & do our best to get a result. The big thing for me today is to be back in the league where we can test ourselves as a coaching staff and group of players. You always want to compete against the best possible teams as that is the only way to improve and that's what I plan for us to do this season. Your support this season will be vital for us and I thank you in advance for that and hope you enjoy todays game. Mark

Forfar Farmington started their SBSSWPL1 season in the best possible fashion as they defeated Hamilton Academical 1-0. Robyn Smith’s 53rd minute goal was enough to give Mark Nisbet’s side all three points at the Superseal Stadium. The hosts had the first opportunity of the game in the sixth minute as Gardner attempted an overhead effort but failed to beat McNicoll. A minute later McCarthy was inches away from opening the scoring; Cowper’s free kick found the defender but she stabbed the ball wide. In the 19th minute Stewart’s cross was cleared for a corner with McGinley waiting and from Scott’s set piece Cowper saw her effort cleared off the line. Sixty seconds later Harkin was denied by Grant while Davidson’s long range effort had the sting taken out of it by an oncoming defender as both sides started to cancel each other out before half time. The second half saw Forfar come flying out the blocks with Davidson and McGinley testing Grant in the first three minutes. Farmington went one better in the 53rd minute; Scott’s pinpoint cross was swept home by Smith at the far post. A minute later couldn’t beat McNicoll while Fitzsimmons’ cross was headed over by Katie Rice who should have done better. On the hour mark Scott sent an effort just past the post as Farmington looked to add a second. In the 87th minute Stewart could, and probably should, have killed the game off as snow fell on the pitch; subs Deans and Kilcoyne combined for the latter to spray the ball across for the winger to blast over the bar. The final chance fell to Accies sub McCann in injury time; she made her way into the box and after cutting inside, tamely sent a shot into the arms of McNicoll.

Mark Nisbet made four new additions to his title winning squad over the close season as he prepared for life in the top flight once again. There has been just one departure in attacker Laura Parsley, while Tammy Harkin, Cassie Cowper, Hannah Stewart and Sophie Milligan have made the move to Station Park. Cowper, 19, spent the last six years at Aberdeen and the defender moves to Farmington following the Dons to work with Nisbet once again, having done so during his spell at the Granite City club. She said: “I have worked with Mark before when he came to Aberdeen and enjoyed his coaching a lot, he tried to sign me previously but it wasn’t the right time, but I feel like now is.” “I’ve heard good things from people about the girls and the club as a whole so I am excited to see it and be involved.” Attacker Stewart was also at Aberdeen with Cowper last season, however the 21 year old has signed for Glasgow City before joining Farmington on loan until May. She said: “I hope I can use my experience in every game I play. I’m still young and still have a lot to learn, and I’m sure I can do this at Forfar. I hope I can contribute fully to the team and their goals for the whole time I'm at the club.” Harkin has moved up from the SWFL1 North where she was with Dundee United and the 26 year old midfielder is looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead. She said: “I am looking forward to the challenge of having to work hard for a place in the team every week, I am competing against talented girls and if the coach believes I bring something and I get to start games, I will be very happy.” There is a familiar face in the four new signings with Sophie Milligan returning after a year in Australia. The 25 year old defender, who made 41 appearances between 2014 and 2016, was delighted to reunite with the close knit group of players. “It feels like I had never left to be honest. I'm really close with most of the group so I'm thoroughly enjoying being back with the girls, minus the weather.” Milligan was unable to play while in Australia due to work commitments in Brisbane but is eager to get going once again. “I definitely missed playing. I've played football competitively since I was 8 so that was the first season I had missed apart from because of injury.”

She continued: “When I was settled in Brisbane I trained with a local team to try keep things ticking over but couldn't commit due to work, but this also gave me the freedom to travel.”
