Good afternoon and welcome to Station Park for our Scottish Building Society Scottish Women’s Premier League One meeting with Rangers. This is our first league game of the second half of the season and we are well aware that it will be a tough test but we hope to get off to a good start to give us a really good platform to build from for the second half of the season. During the course of the break, we have had a couple of bounce games to keep our match fitness ticking over as well as allowing players to return from their respective injuries. I am happy with where we are at the moment and we will look to stabilise our position in our final eight games, potentially moving further up the table, having six of these at home could be helpful. As ever thanks for your support as it really is appreciated by the players and staff & I hope you enjoy today’s game. Mark
Goals from Abbi Grant, Hayley Lauder, Maddie Hill, Nicola Docherty and Jo Love gave City the points with Megan Robb netting for Mark Nisbet’s side. Farmington came out looking like the better side and could have gone ahead after four minutes; Caroline Heron sent Danni McGinley through on goal but she could only fire wide while under pressure by the City defence. City almost handed Farmington the lead two minutes later when a poor pass back meant Heron put Erin Clachers under pressure; the keeper rattled a clearance off the attacker but the ball creeped past the post. The visitors took the lead with their first chance after nine minutes with a low cross by Hayley Lauder stabbed home by Abbi Grant. City doubled their advantage in the 17th minute with Grant turning provider as Jo Love found the back of the net. Farmington pulled a goal back ten minutes before the break; Donna Paterson received the ball inside the box from Clachers and as she turned to clear the ball Megan Robb nipped in to divert the ball into the empty net. The two goal lead was restored sixty seconds later with Grant netting her second of the afternoon. Robyn Smith and McGinley combined in the 57th minute to set up Caroline Heron, with her low shot flying past the post. The difference between City and a patched up Farmington side started to show in the final fifteen minutes as City added three goals in eleven minutes. In the 75th minute Nicola Docherty received the ball just inside the box, taking a touch before sending the shot past McNicoll for their fourth. The lead was extended two minutes later as substitute Maddie Hill finished from close range before Hayley Lauder completed the scoring four minutes from time.

Mark Nisbet is delighted with how his side have performed so far this season and is aiming to finish as high as possible in the Scottish Women’s Premier League One. The SWPL2 champions were widely tipped to suffer relegation and have proved their doubters wrong as they currently sit in fifth, thirteen points above the relegation zone. With Farmington returning to league action, Nisbet reflected on his squad’s season so far, praising his players for their performances in some tough matches. “I feel the team have performed exceptionally well over the first half of the season. We had a tough start and then found ourselves with a number of away games in a row.” “I’m delighted to report we came through these with flying colours and found ourselves well inside the top half of the table when many would have expected us to be scrapping it out near the bottom after only being promoted this season.” Nisbet admits that Farmington’s ambitions and aims ahead of the remaining eight games has changed due to the current league position and hopes they can be in the top half come the end of October. “Our aims and ambitions have changed slightly now that we have had such an impressive first half of the season and I want us to now keep pushing on and try and finish as high up the table as possible and definitely look to be in a top half position come the end of October.” “We have a lot of home games so hopefully the supporters will come out and give us the extra boost to ensure we achieve that goal.” Rebecca Dempster arrived at the club shortly before the summer break after spells in Italy and Australia and Nisbet has been impressed with her so far. He also feels he is happy with the squad he has, however acknowledges that he is always open to adding to it should a player be the right fit for the team. “I’m delighted that Rebecca has come in and she has looked really impressive so far. As soon as it was possible to add her, I was really keen to do that. I’m happy with the group but I am always open to adding players if they will make us stronger and add further competition for places.” Almost all of the eight remaining games will be at home with just two away games left in a bizarrely arranged fixture list that left Farmington with five away games on the bounce. Nisbet feels having home advantage in some key games may help, but he is keen to focus solely on the performance and attitude of his players. “It’s possible that having home advantage may help as we are really comfortable and confident at home but our away form has been good this season. For me the most important thing is the performance and the attitude of the players regardless of where we play.”
