Frédéric Schwebel ably handles his role in the "slot" position within the Breitling Jet Team, the toughest of them all. When performing with no obvious escape route, mistakes are just not an option. Strapped to his wrist is the Chronomat, powered by the ultimate high-performance chronograph movement, Breitling Caliber 01, chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute), an exceptional "motor" entirely developed and built by Breitling. Ultra-sturdy, ultra-reliable and ultra-watertight to 500 m, the Chronomat stands out for its unique design and its incredible concern for details. For Frédéric Schwebel, it is quite simply the world’s best chronograph. 5-YEAR BREITLING WARRANTY £ 6760*

A WATCH MEETS THE CHALLENGE OF THE DEEP Rolex has always been associated with exploration of the planet’s most extreme frontiers and pushing the limits of human endeavour, in keeping with the spirit instilled by its founder, Hans Wilsdorf, who led the company through the most adventurous decades of the 20th century. On March 26, 2012, renowned film director, James Cameron, in association with Rolex, made a record-breaking solo dive to the Earth’s deepest point – successfully piloting the Deepsea Challenger nearly seven miles to the deepest point in the Mariana Trench, a crescent-shaped scar in the Earth’s crust located in the western Pacific east of the Philippines. The challenge was inspired by the successful dive of the bathyscaphe Trieste, crewed by Swiss oceanographer Jacques Piccard and U.S. Navy Lieutenant Don Walsh, as they descended to the then deepest-known point in the ocean on January 23,1960. During the dive, a Rolex watch was attached to the exterior of the Trieste when it touched the very bottom of the Mariana Trench, reaching a depth of 35,814 feet (10,916 meters). After the Trieste surfaced from its record dive in 1960, a cable was sent to Rolex headquarters: “HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THAT YOUR WATCH WORKS AS WELL AT 11,000 METRES AS IT DOES ON THE SURFACE. BEST REGARDS JACQUES PICCARD.” Cameron’s experience in the Deepsea Challenger was something comparable to riding a cramped elevator that starts in a steamy tropical forest and ending in the dead of night at the North Pole. The journey took Cameron over two hours to reach the seafloor, where he had six hours to explore the deep-ocean frontier for clues about new life forms and forces that shape our planet. Due to the sub’s unique design, the time from the bottom back to the surface took only an hour, at speeds of over seven knots. Timepieces such as the Rolex Deepsea and the state-of-the-art, experimental Rolex Deepsea Challenge, carried by James Cameron’s submersible, are the product of nearly a century of finely tuned know-how and innovation. They are a testament to Rolex’s pursuit of perfection and the finest engineering. Cameron’s Deepsea Challenge will now take Rolex on a new journey, revealing the secrets held by the ocean floor and shedding light on the deepest frontier accessible to mankind. The Deepsea Challenge team are now in the second phase of scientific analysis, long-term planning and solicitation of support for science around the expedition.
