A Simple Act of Kindness Always Sparks

While the holiday season may have come to an end, the giving spirit never runs out at Beaver Toyota. Ever since Mike and Linda Beaver first opened the dealership in Cumming, Ga., their focus has been on giving back to the community.

One of the ways they have done so is through its nonprofit partnerships and now Beaver Toyota is truly a leader in what it looks like to be part of a community.

“Making a difference is what we really want to do. It’s our responsibility as a business. All business owners big and small can do it in some way and we really want to be leaders on that front,” said Cheryl McFadden, the Director of

Community Partnerships at Beaver Toyota.

This will be the second year that Beaver Toyota hosts a luncheon for all of its nonprofit partners with the goal of discussing the game plan for the new year and how they might be able to help one another to give back to the community.

“We held the luncheon in December 2021 but this year we decided to kick off the New Year with it instead. We invited everyone and there’s even some people that will be coming this year that I haven’t met yet. It is very exciting.” McFadden said.

“We used to meet quarterly before COVID, but since then the community room we used for meetings was repurposed, so the luncheon is a way to still get us all together.”

The year 2023 will hold big things for Beaver Toyota.

“We have a couple things up our sleeve for this next year. Right now, I am focusing on the second year of our golf tournament.

“We had our first annual golf tournament last year and raised over $100,000. We gave $50,000 to Mentor Me North GA, who used the money to add more staff to their program, and we gave $50,000 to Camp Twin Lakes, a camp that provides lifechanging, therapeutic, recreational, and medically-supportive camp experiences for children with serious illnesses, disabilities, and other life challenges.

“I was dependent on a lot of mentors the first time through and this year I am convinced we can grow. How big can we get? That’s what I keep asking myself.” McFadden said.

While being able to write a big check is satisfying, it was made clear that Beaver Toyota is more focused on active help.

“We are not about writing checks. We want to have purpose behind it,” McFadden said. “The team members we have here at Beaver Toyota are definitely part of the culture that Mike and Linda [Beaver] cultivated.

“Our General Manager, Patrick Abad’s leadership also passionately supports these efforts in a big way. Our community events are quite often completely staffed and driven by Beaver Toyota team members. It is our whole company that gives back to the community, not just a few people.”

This active help comes in various forms depending on the nonprofit partner and their specific needs. A focus for Beaver Toyota’s nonprofit partnerships is youth at risk within the community.

“We really focus on the youth at risk of our community but that doesn’t exclude us from venturing into working with students who are a part of the arts and sciences,” McFadden said.

Some of these efforts include hosting the Cumming Arts Center Forsyth County High Student Awards, facilitating a toy drive for The Place of Forsyth, and supporting the Alliance Academy for Innovation (Avengers) Robotics team.

In December, with the Cumming Arts Center Forsyth County High Student Awards, Beaver Toyota served as honorary host and helped to fund the awards for the students who participated.

This past Christmas season, Beaver Toyota’s team members included collecting toys for The Place of Forsyth’s annual Holiday House event. The effort was wildly successful due to the donations and word spread by the team members of Beaver Toyota, resulting in a literal mountain of toys that not even their showroom pickup truck could carry,” McFadden said, “Although the community helped, a lot of that was our team giving and donating the toys.”

Last but not least, for the three years that the program has existed, Beaver Toyota has seen the Avenger’s Robotics team grow exponentially from 35 students with their support.

“I get so amazed every time I visit. I was just blown away last Fall when I expected to see maybe 50 kids and the entire gymnasium was full of so many kids building the robotics. They were so active and so well versed at handling the public and explaining the projects they were working on. They had a greeter at the door and introduced me to everyone and they have designated speakers that speak about the different segments of the competitions,” she said, “One of their original students worked with us part time and asked for support and that’s how this all started!”

Beaver held its first golf tournament last year and raised over $100,000. Mentor Me North GA was the recipient of $50,000 from the money raised. The dealership also held a toy drive for The Place of Forsyth County, right.

Beaver Toyota’s support goes beyond nonprofits, as well, with their special discount for educators.

“We are very dedicated to supporting education and those that educate. We have a program where when anyone who is in the educational system purchases a car from us, we not only offer the best vehicle price but we also give $500 back to their school, if it was support staff, or directly to the classroom of the teacher who purchased the car to be used for purchasing much needed classroom materials,” McFadden said.

Overall, the efforts and strides that Beaver Toyota has made to give back to the community and to spur on good change are beyond what anyone can imagine thanks to the culture created by Mike and Linda Beaver and the continued efforts of Beaver Toyota’s compassionate team members.

“Mike and Linda Beaver are faith based and are all about giving back to the community and I think that we all embrace that as a culture. Mike and Linda opened Beaver Toyota with giving back foremost on their mind and all of the team members have really taken that to heart.”

The waves Beaver Toyota and their team members have made in the Forsyth County community will continue and inspire more good deeds, “People want to be involved when they see good things happening,” McFadden said. “Internally, our team is all about pulling things together to make things happen. When we talk about volunteering, everyone on our team loves to get involved.

“If you’re looking for a workplace that cares about the community and gets involved, Beaver Toyota is the place to be!”
